The ER at KU is a joke. I went in for stroke symptoms. I told the registration that I needed to sit down, next thing I knew I was on a bed in the triage dept. I collapsed in the waiting room, when I came to, I had nurses demanding that I breath, demanding I stop shaking. None of these symptoms I could help by any means. They failed to get an accurate EKG reading and snatched the probes off my stomach. Then I was in for a CT scan of my back. I went in for numbness in my face and left body. I had a fall 10 weeks ago and they thought it was related. Pumped me with muscle relaxers and Tylenol, and. A lidocaine patch. WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME TAKE PAIN PILLS WHILE IM NUMB!!!!???? Literally the second the attending physician received my negative results from the CT he had discharge papers in his hand. NO EKG was reran, no discussion at all on talking to a neurologist: my husband and I both asked why I was STILL numb the doctors answer was “I don’t know, I don’t have an answer for that.” Gave us false follow up information for a specialist. Gave me info for a PHYSICAL THERAPIST. He came back with whatever discharge papers they came up with and said that I was discharged. I had to walk MYSELF to the bathroom (stroke are prone to falls). I WAS IN A HALLWAY WHERE EVERY BIT OF MY HIPPA WAS VIOLATED. As well as being uncomfortable while they lifted my shirt to put EKG tags on in the hallway where every other patient was around. I felt very dismissed and unwanted in that emergency department. I will tell whomever of my experiences in hopes they will take the extra 20 minute drive to a facility where they will be attended to in a caring and welcoming manner. KU failed on this one.

I want to give a huge shout-out to Holly at registration, who was wonderful and efficient, and my nurses Amy and Mark. Amy and Mark provided excellent care and were the highlight of my visit; they are true professionals. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Kanakadandi was the complete opposite. After waiting three hours past my appointment time, his bedside manner was incredibly poor. He came across as rude, angry, and dismissive. It felt as though his primary goal was simply to 'ring the cash register' rather than provide quality care. I don't need my hand held, but I do expect basic respect and professionalism, which he failed to provide.

This could be a good hospital but is far from it. Behind all that glitters is not gold. The KU Psychiatry Clinic failed to keep me safe. I actually had a suicide attempt while in the the clinic. After I had done so, I had a huge change of heart and wanted to live. After this suicide attempt I immediately told a Clinic RN what and how I did what I did. I begged her for her, MD's and all staff to always check me for suicidal means. They knew very well my past history of suicide attempts and history of psychiatric hospitalizations. I did not want an attempt to happen again but it did. They never took action on my warning and failed to keep me safe. I was never ever checked and they never put any safety measures in place to keep me or anyone else safe. After a few months I wised up. I filed a Joint Commission Complaint. Since then I have been retaliated against in my medical care at KU. Pertinent medical records have disappeared. After seeking answers from KU Patient Relations several times KU threatened me. They said if I called them again they would involve KCPD and proceed with charges of harassment. They fail in their duty of care and They Threaten ME?? KU's retaliation has spread to other Clinics in the Hospital I use. Tyler Kjorvestad MD is the Medical Director of the KU Psychiatry Clinic. He and other staff members of the Clinic do not have adequate control of their patients safety and care. Also, since filing Joint Commission Complaints I have received letters from Kristy Harvey the Practice Manager threatening to dismiss me as a patient. Unbelievable! For a Hospital that is supposed to be one if not the best in the area, they aren't to smart. They make my legal medical records dissappear. Highly illegal according to HIPPA. Threaten me or give me substandard care. Those are causes for additional Joint Commission Complaints. For your health and safety please stay away from the mismanaged KU Psychiatric Clinic. Please!

I had surgery 4 weeks ago today and I am now in the hospital at ku due to an infection in my arm that was operated on. I was told to come to the hospital yesterday as soon as the hospital called that my room was ready. I arrived at the hospital around 4-5 pm on 10-22-25 and my surgeon stated that they would start antibiotics as soon as I arrived due to the infection. No one at the hospital had any orders or any clue as to what was going on and I didn’t receive any of the antibiotics until around 9:30pm. This place has become the most unorganized place I’ve ever been to. It’s now noon on 10-23-25 and another Dr just came in to discuss the infection and the antibiotics I am on and when the Dr stated that I was given oral antibiotics when I arrived I told the Dr that was an absolute lie I was not given anything until I was given antibiotics through my I’v at around 9:30 last night. This place is so messed up I am starting to get nervous about the medical staff here absolutely not knowing what is being done and what meds are being given to the patients. Then I can now see why the cost is so much due to I have been asked the same exact questions more than 6 times because the information that I have given each of them has not been entered into the system. I used to believe that this was the best hospital in Kc and now I believe that this place is absolutely horrible. If I wasn’t in the situation I am in with the infection in my arm I would have just got up and walked out and gone to another hospital. I no longer recommend this hospital to anyone. The drs are great but the hospital and staff are an absolute nightmare. Be careful going here and pay attention to what they are doing and the medication they give you ask questions and stay informed about what they are doing to you. My nurse Irene has been amazing and she has tried to stay on top of everything that is going on and she completely understands my concerns. She is very understanding and knowledgeable and has kept me informed about everything. If at all possible I would advise others to use a different hospital for your care.
