I had a great experience with this place. Found a bunny and brought it in for info. Very helpful and clean! They take great care of all the animals.

Process of adoption was simple and straightforward! We adopted my cat from the shelter and she’s an angel. They were very diligent about making sure the landlord was okay with a cat and that we had paperwork and approval first so make sure you have that prior to adoption. Also I hope this is an update for the shelter that Storm is in a loving home and as happy as can be.

Utterly useless of a service. They have zero urgency or care to any of the local wild life situations in San Francisco. They show zero empathy and care for the wildlife. I called about local wild finches stuck within our patio sunroof. I do not have the tools to reach the heights required to rescue the birds or the nets. You would think they would but instead of sending out someone like they said on the call no one came. I now have 3 dead local wildlife finches in the lips of my sunroof that are rotting away. I'm beyond upset, these birds didn't deserve that death.. I tried so hard to provide water and food to keep them going until SF animal control arrived but they NEVER DID. If you have wildlife or any loving family pet issues/ emergency situations you are on your own. Do not expect or have hope that this staff will care to assist you. They clearly do not care to waste their time or funds. I'm disappointed and disgusted by them.

I am writing this review because of a deeply traumatic experience I had with San Francisco Animal Care and Control when my dog was very sick and actively dying. My daughter was extremely worried and crying all night because our dog was so ill. I tried desperately to find help. I went to multiple shelters across San Francisco, but every place either turned us away or demanded fees I could not afford. At that point, my only goal was to save my dog’s life. I finally called Animal Care and Control and explained clearly that my dog was dying and needed immediate help. It took a very long time for them to arrive, despite the urgency of the situation. When the officer arrived, I was shocked by the lack of empathy and care. Instead of immediately helping my dog, she asked me endless questions while my dog was visibly weak and suffering. He could barely stand or walk. Despite this, she put a rope around his neck and tried to force him to walk out of my apartment complex. My dog was clearly not capable of walking, yet she continued. She even asked me if I had a bag to put him in, which left me in complete shock. My daughter was crying while watching this happen. There was no compassion, no urgency, and no sensitivity shown to a dying animal or to a family in distress. The officer also made comments about smells in my home and treated my dog as if he were a problem rather than a living being who needed help. Eventually, I was made to sign over my rights. I agreed because all I wanted was for my dog to be saved — but the way he was handled will haunt me.

Some staff are friendlier than others. No guest parking. Animals that are on display but not yet available for adoption. Liked a cat that wasn't quite ready yet, asked if they could call me when available. The first staff member said yes, second said we don't do that, you just have to keep checking. Sorry, I thought the idea was to find loving homes for the animals. The policies here make that more difficult. I ended up adopting a great cat at the SPCA instead.
