I had a 14 year old dog, with lung cancer, blind in one eye and could hardly walk. That was picked up in front of my house. He was gone for 5 minutes and you can clearly see him walk towards the road on my cameras. When he was picked up by someone, obviously concerned. (Not blaming the person for caring, but maybe if the dog could hardly walk. You’d think they’d knock on surrounding houses doors to figure out where he came from.) But when arriving at the this awful pound, he was given DHPP Vaccine: Deworm- Pyrantel: as well as Bordetella- Intranasal Vaccine. . Which was a Saturday . I was unable to get my dog out of the pound until Tuesday because they weren’t open. When I finally got my dog out Tuesday, he was obviously unable to stand or even hold his head up. The lady carried him out to me, and said “he is so excited to go home” with a very stressed look on her face. Clearly my elderly 14 year old dog wasn’t excited to do shit cause he couldn’t move. My dog was at least healthy enough to walk when he was in my care. I then went and took him home and bathed him because he was covered in urine and feces. He basically looked dead with a very faint heart beat and seemed like he could barely breathe. My gf and I met my mother at the Vets, (VEG”vet emergency group” which is a very lovely place with amazing vets that truly care. Upon arriving, they rushed over to us. Took my dog and weighed him, he had lost close to 15 pounds in the 3 days he was at the this awful pound. Immediately hooked him up to Iv’s, Stating that he was extremely dehydrated. And obviously hadn’t eaten in the 3 days. And then we showed them the paperwork we got from the pound, and what vaccines were given to him and they stated a dog with cancer cannot be given vaccines. It is very bad for them, Which then pisses me off because not knowing the animal or any information on the animal, they gave him vaccines without knowing How it would affect the dog. That very same night I picked up my dog from this pound I had to put my dog down. The vet said even with the lung cancer, He would have lived a little while longer with no estimated time. If he hadn’t gotten that dehydrated and been given these vaccines. In other words, hope your dogs don’t go here, especially an elderly dog because you won’t be getting him back the way he left. His name was Buddy, and I had this dog for 14 years, almost half my life. And the very first time he goes to the pound, I lose my best friend.

This was our first visit to Salt Lake County Animal Services, and we were truly impressed! The staff provides exceptional care for animals in need of a home and were wonderful to work with. We hoped to adopt two sibling tabbies—and we found the perfect pair of sisters!

We just had a great experience at the Salt Lake County Animal Services. We have been looking for a cat companion to our other cat and just haven't found the right cat. I checked out their website and we found a cat that was perfect. I emailed the office and received a prompt response to my question. The actual building is easy to get to and we were able to go to the cattery to view the cat we had inquired about, we spent a little time with her and decided to take her home. The process was easy and even though they were busy it was fairly efficient and fast. What I liked the best about this place is the fact that the staff was friendly and very helpful. I found their volunteers very friendly and helpful and grateful for our visit there also. This is not the same mindset as a well known animal adoption center fairly close by. The SLC Animal Services selection was also so much better for what we were looking for. I highly recommend looking here before you go anywhere else.

The adoptions team is wonderful!! Nicole, Saba, Anya and Kass are professional, kind, patient and care a great deal about the animals. The officers at the desk have also been very professional and helpful. I've adopted two dogs from them and fostered a couple as well. You know that when you go back for a visit with the dogs and they are excitedly pulling you into the building that these folks take great care of the animals!! Keep up the good work!

It was supposed to be a trip just to go “look at the puppies”, but I guess I should have known better. One step into the shelter and I knew we couldn’t go home alone. The staff here are incredible. Everyone was so kind, knowledgeable, and willing to help us have the best experience possible. No one was pushy or insistent, just encouraging to help us find a perfect match. The dogs were well taken care of, and I was so impressed with their dedication to helping each dog receive enough training to be ready to go to a new home. The process was simple and straightforward, and they really took everything into account, making sure we felt safe, confident, and comfortable before walking home with a new member of the family. The SLC animal services center is phenomenal, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking! (Just know it’s nearly impossible to go and “just play with the puppies”… you won’t be going home alone)
