I just want to thank the Newburgh shelter for taking care of my dog Willie Nelson. Myself and my husband had a medical emergency was in the hospital for a week and Willie was taken to the shelter for care. While there they even gave him his shots he needed and his county license. They took great care of my baby. Something I learned is if your pet is there email them instead of calling. They get back to you faster that way so you don't have to worry. Again thank you so very much ♥️

I’m just going to come right out and say it! IF YOU EVER GET YOUR CAT’ NOT STRAY PET’ BACK FROM THIS FISSILITY, your thee luckiest individual on the planet AND in the universe! I say this because you have absolutely no hope of getting your animal back when they show you a totally different cat from the photos you’ve provided them, of lost pets posted on they’re lost and found kyhuman website. Every single cat on their website has the same found location of (40218) which is impossible! Half of the stray cats posted are under false genders and or (unknown gender), this is because of the lack of effort that is ever put in to make sure people are reunited with their pets, or posting valuable information to help people get them back!! They posted one cats backwards 😳 with only it’s shown, and like how can anyone identify their lost cat from behind!!! THEY NEED TO DO BETTER. It seems to me as if they rather euthanize, keep or sale/adopt rather than reunite or return! I just hope that something is done ab this place one day. It’s not being run by proper management and the handling is being done wrong! The heavy set guy told me he’d jump me in line but then rushed me to fill out paperwork. They showed little to no effort helping me find my lost cat, I was shown to one male orange tabby when I was clearly looking for a female orange tabby, he did not resemble the cat in the photo of the cat posted on the website’ BC THE CAT POSTED ON THE WEBSITE IS MY ACTUAL CAT!!!! And she told me I couldn’t pull out my phone 🤔, fishy enough for ya” they also had all of the kennels covered up to the point that you couldn’t see them, it was unsettling. I was never even presented a Lost and Found report to fill out!!

We recently adopted a senior cat who had been listed as a stray and described as “learning to trust again.” He had been at the shelter for about two months and was being treated for a few medical issues during that time. He is a beautiful, deserving soul, but it’s clear he is severely traumatized, whether from his past or from the shelter experience alone, it’s hard to know. My husband and I love adopting seniors. We believe every older animal deserves to know that they are still worthy of love, comfort, and dignity. Most of our interaction with the staff was positive; everyone was kind, and I know they were extremely busy and likely understaffed. However, I do want to share one concern: visitors were allowed to freely open cages, handle cats, and interact with them without supervision. For animals who already come in scared, shut down, or healing from past trauma, this can be overwhelming and damaging. Our cat clearly did not want unfamiliar hands reaching for him, and I wish his time there had included more protection from that. He is now in a quiet decompression room at home, and we’re taking everything at his pace…slow, gentle, and safe. I’m grateful he’s finally somewhere he can heal, but I do wish the last two months of his stay had been less stressful for him. I hope this feedback helps the shelter consider small adjustments that could make a big difference for traumatized animals. They deserve the chance to feel safe while they wait for their forever home.

My husband and I had a great experience here. We came on a Thursday when they opened. There wasn't much staff around and after 10 minutes or so so we wandered into the cat area since thats what we were looking for. We were told after being there for 30 minutes and petting every cat we could, that we weren't supposed to be back there without someone. There wasn't any signs saying not to do x, y, z. Regardless its understandable since they appear short staffed and they weren't rude about it. We ended up getting an young adult. We asked a lot of questions, most of which they couldn't provide, such as their history. They get a lot of animals off the street, so history info simply isn't available. They gave us her medicine and a complete list of what they've done with her since she's here which was super helpful. Our little girl is wonderful and we owe it all to the Animal House. Thank you!
