UnityPoint Clinic Family Medicine - Southglen

The staff is there at 8am but refuse to answer the phone. I tried to make an appointment on the website and wasn't able to because their website is glitchy. No one wants to actually deal with people anymore. Not even healthcare.

I think some people are leaving reviews for the Urgent Care side instead of the family clinic medicine side. My review is for the Clinic Family Medicine side. Had my first appointment with my new doctor and I was very impressed with her and the front desk staff. Everyone was really awesome. Going into my senior years now and I feel I have a great support team at this location. Highly recommend.

I had been seeing Dr.Peterson for YEARS, since i was a teenager. He was always a great doctor until things became chronic and confusing, he just seemed to push everything to the side even while my symptoms were heavily impacting my life. I went to Dr.Harkin here as well to see if she maybe would listen, I left her office in tears because she was so nasty to me and didn’t want to help because “Dr.Peterson had checked everything already.” WELL, I found a new doctor and within just a couple months of seeing her, I have had 4 new diagnosis’s that Peterson failed to or cared to look into or figure out. I am doing 10x better now, don’t waste your time here, if you’re chronically ill they will not care to help.

Went to Unitypoint Southglen Urgentcare with my son as he had gotten sick and progressively gotten worse after 5 days with a cough, sore throat, achy, sinus pressure. At appointment, was told he didn't need medication, he was at the end of it and to "take over the counter meds and drink water" and then Emma the PA sent us off. I was told by her nurse that if he got worse instead of better to call back and they would prescribe an antibiotic. I had to stop by late afternoon the next day to let them know he had in fact gotten worse (since we had tried to call multiple times to let them know and noone was answering phones) and that he had stayed home from school again and I asked for medication... I was again denied and told no. I have amazing insurance so could not understand why they were denying access to medication as he clearly was fighting something and had also been told to let them know if he got worse. 3 days after his initial appt with UnityPoint and he was still struggling so we went to Mercy. I had made a decision after being denied access to medication that UnityPoint must be struggling with their quality of care so it isnt in my families best interest to use UnityPoint at this time. My son saw a Dr at Mercy with over 25yrs experience. He ended up having a pretty bad inner ear infection. Which explained all his symptoms. My son has a history of asthma that is triggered by sickness or allergies. Most Physicians have taken that seriously and thankfully the Dr at Mercy did. He said he needed an antibiotic immediately and didn't hesitate with treatment. He prescribed an antibiotic, an inhaler, cough pill suppressant, and a nighttime cough syrup since my son had been struggling with sleeping due his cough for over a week (which was all told to Emma at his 1st appt). Moral of this story...don't take any advice that goes against your gut. Advocate for your care and your families care. Don't allow your right to access of medication or proper diagnosis & treatment be taken away. Thankfully, we know to advocate in the system and sought out a Dr at Mercy whom was able to quickly and thoroughly diagnose our son and provide help, one night of medication and our son is a thousand times better. We wish Emma and Southglen UnityPoint would've provided the correct diagnosis when we originally went in as he would have felt better days earlier. The Dr at Mercy was amazing and not because we got our way in getting medication but because he cared enough to be thorough and give a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Do not recommend! Went there and was tested for influenza, came back positive, won’t give me any medicine. My husband also went with me and has been sick over a month running a fever, shortness of breath, dizziness, etc. No chest X-ray, won’t give any medications, and nothing to offer. Thanks for the hefty bill and a high five…. Absolutely never going back! You wonder why the ER is oversaturated!
