I've supported the Humane Society for years and attending their gala ball this year reminded me why. This organization genuinely cares. Highly recommend donating, volunteering, or just showing up to one of their events!"

The most important takeaway here is that The Humane Society will lie to get dogs adopted, creating a miserable home for them and the owner. I adopted an adult dog (who I was told is house trained) in early November 2024. This dog even lived as a foster at an employee's home, so this is not something that could have slipped under their radar. We have followed the advice of professional trainers religiously. It is well over a year later and this dog still urinates and defecates everywhere in the home, including right next to us. On sofas and mattresses. My home reeks of piss and I can't begin to guess how many hours I have spent shampooing carpeting and furniture to no avail. Now I know why this dog has been surrendered multiple times. In addition, the vets who work here are aggressive and border on abusive. This was hinted to me by the employee filing my forms. I adopted the dog despite a grade 4 heart murmur. I was also informed that she was muzzled during the exam. After adoption and taking her to my own vet, he is barely able to detect the murmur and considers it grade 1. Those vets at The Humane Society aggressed a tiny and social pet into a muzzle that she has not needed at our vet a single time, not by a mile, because our vet isn't abusive. They mistreated her and resorted to muzzling without reason and the process caused such distress that it elevated her heart murmur to grade 4 during the exam. I cannot recommend this facility to anyone. If I rehome the dog it will have to be on my own because surrendering it here would lead to more abuse, lies, and future surrenders.

I visited this afternoon to meet a golden retriever mix named Dooby I saw online. Upon entering the dog area, staff were immediately standoffish and focused on pointing out negative qualities about the dog—none of which were mentioned in his online profile. They repeatedly emphasized his large size in a discouraging way, despite my experience with large dogs. I liked the dog and asked about scheduling a meet-and-greet with my husband and resident dog. Inside, staff again were unwelcoming and insisted I complete an adoption application just to schedule another meeting. I agreed to fill out the same application later online, but was told I had to do it immediately and be interviewed on the spot. After completing it, I was told to leave because they were closing and would call the next day. I had arrived at 3:30 pm; they close at 4. If meet-and-greets aren’t done close to closing time, that should be stated clearly rather than discouraging potential adopters. I understand being honest about a dogs qualities. However they did not ask me any questions about what I’m capable of or looking for. The way they spoke about this dog may indicate why he had been there for almost a month. Additionally the dog was very poorly groomed. No care or attention was made to brush him or cut his hair making him more appealing to potential adopters.

My family went to adopt a kitten. The process was easy. The people were very kind and gave me a lot of important information. I brought home a beautiful kitten named King.🥰❤️

Our little family was nearly a week out of having to put our elderly and sick cat down, and when we decided it was time to welcome another cat into our home our first stop was the Humane Society. We originally planned on going around and seeing who was available, but the customer service we received from the lovely volunteers and other workers at the Humane Society convinced us this was the place we needed to be. They were knowledgeable about each and every cat, worked with our family to ensure we brought the best fit home, and sent us off with resources and clear instructions on what we needed to do to keep our new kittens safe and healthy. Would highly reccomend!
