Honestly as a WDC native I was apprehensive about this location because iykyk however Gallery Place PF is easily becoming my favorite one! I tend to go during first shift and literally everyone is super helpful, attentive and polite. I've only seen one incident where security was involved and that woman was very personable and still treated the patron with dignity and respect. One morning I stayed in the hydromassage a little longer than I should and she very kindly informed me to restart it at the front desk and get thought I was asleep. That's how she said 'dont be back here sleep'. Nothing snide or rude at all and in today's time and culture that is honestly SO refreshing to see. My ONLY complaint is there should be a way to restart the hydromassage from the chair, as a member. I know they don't want you hogging the machines or sleep but if they could have you check in at the desk and maybe an option to scan and extend from the chair if there's nobody waiting would be top tier - also, those 10m go by fast and I personally always lose 2-3 customizing the settings it should honestly be 20

Limited on machines but my main concern and reason for this review is to focus on the laziness by the staff. 3 guys at the front desk chatting, standing around, on their phones and not taking care of the restrooms/lockers, walking around but not organizing the weights lying around on the floors, plus 30 mins before the gym closed (6:30pm Sunday December 28th) my partner and i wanted to use the tanning beds 10mins each but was told we couldn’t because only 1 was available and they had already decided to close that part of the gym. The attitudes were rude as if we were wrong to ask for the amenities that we pay for. Do the math, 2 beds used + 3 staff members = 5mins to clean. If closing is that overwhelming maybe try not hanging out at the desk not doing anything and be useful, be proactive. Customer service is not for everyone.

Really cheap gym but a lot of the trappings that come with that like rude clientele and the occasional insane employee. Most of the people who lift here are very new to lifting and do not understand gym etiquette (letting people work in, being courteous and respectful, etc). The employees can also be quite rude. For example, the gym was like 20 minutes from closing once and the lady at the front desk started yelling at me for being an "idiot" because she "had a train to catch". How foolish of me to not realize! Like low key there's lots of that with the staff here but that's the incident that stands out the most. Not even to blame the staff completely - it's possible they're not being treated well or compensated well which would make anyone upset. Anyway, if you're serious about lifting - don't come here unless you can't afford something better - it's cramped, there's usually too many people in there based on the fire code, the equipment isn't good for body building style workouts (no squat rack and dbs only go up to 70) etc etc. Also like half the gym is a sea of ellipticals so there's not that much equipment overall. If you are a casual lifter? This is a killer deal and you should come here.

I've been coming to this gym 3-6 times a week, between 6-9 am, for about a year. I chose it because it's cheap and convenient. I didn't expect to like it, but I do. I'd recommend it for most people, though gym rats should be aware they'll need to adjust their workouts for limited equipment. Pros: * it's cheap * they keep it clean * there is a respectful culture, at least with the morning regulars - people rack the weights, wipe down equipment, don't hog stations too badly, are open to working in, are pretty respectful of personal space and focus * most people wear headphones and don't interact much outside of nods/smiles * the regular staff are competent and congenial * they play a variety of music (not too loud), which I only hear when my headphones die - good for workouts Cons: * dumbells stop at 75 pounds * no barbells (just the light fixed-weight kind) * no squat racks * only 4 Smith machines - usually a line * more cable machines would be nice * tons of cardio machines and most are generally unused. Maybe they get more use at other times of day? If you're used to lifting heavy you'll need to change up your form/tempo/etc to make up for the lighter weights and lack of barbells. Same goes for maxing out on the weight machines. It's doable with creativity. There are some serious lifters in the morning crew and I've gotten ideas from watching them. Finally, there is the whole "no judgement" and "no lunks" thing. I think calling people lunks is pretty judgmental, but anyway this isn't an aggro space, which is nice. For the regulars, the most serious lifters are often the most polite folks, so it's a good culture. I'm glad I joined and now I'm very accustomed to purple.

I definitely recommend this PF! I was staying at the Motto hotel which is across the street from this PF, and they give their guests complimentary access. I decided to give it a go despite the horror stories I’ve seen on Tiktok and so. I actually had a great time at this gym! The cardio machines seemed to be in good condition, and it was pretty clean and not crowded at all. I‘d go around 9am, so I cant say how it is after work hours. The staff were also helpful when I first asked for locker information and they also would smile and say Goodbye. I did notice that the AC wasnt working properly, but I just figured it was fine and I‘d just sweat more if anything. I would totally sign-up for this PF if I was a local! Expectations were exceeded!
