I bounced between stylists for a couple of years before finding Paul at Midwest Barbery, and I’m glad I finally did. He’s welcoming, professional, and sets a tone that clearly reflects the rest of the team in the shop. Paul asks thoughtful questions, listens carefully, and takes the time to get it right. His attention to detail is exceptional, and he remembers the specifics from one visit to the next, which makes every appointment feel intentional rather than routine. If you’re looking for a truly elevated grooming experience, book time with Paul Z at Midwest Barbery. You’ll walk out sharper than you walked in.

Very bummed. I've never felt more unattractive leaving a barbershop. I do not write a ton of reviews, but I lost so much self esteem from my "new look" that I just had to share my thoughts. I've been here twice before for decent enough cuts, and I had a previous review elsewhere that was positive. It only takes one terrible experience to lose someone's good faith forever! I say terrible because I can deal with bad experiences, and I can understand that sometimes good practices can lead to unintended results, especially with something like this. I came in for a haircut and beard trim, and I was seated quickly (as I had a prior appointment). It started fine enough, I told the male stylist (I believe Steven) what I was looking for the haircut with a picture, and described that I was still growing my beard out and I was just looking for a trim and lineup. I don't go in for haircuts often, and I make it known to the barber that some terminology will fly over my head. I was already getting a bit of pushback for not knowing what exactly attachment on the shears I was looking for.. Started off a bit meh, already the trimmer was too short on the sides of my head, and it was essentially buzzed. I didn't mind this too much, as I didn't mind trying something shorter - and there was still work to be done. As soon as he got to my facial hair, without a warning at all, the trimmers had practically claimed my mustache. I'd been growing it out for months. I didn't mention wanting it touched at all. The situation was already lost. The stylist was nice enough, despite seeming like he really wanted to hear himself talk a lot, though gave no communication whatsoever throughout the process. Completely taking liberties after he trimmed my mustache down to the last couple millimeters, he set his trimmer's sights on my poor beard that I'd also been growing out. Shearing the chin down to a few millimeters, then leaving a huge patch of beard hair on the bottom for some reason???? He couldn't even get the "clean douchey" lineup right. It's completely uneven on the neckline and cheeks (one side of my cheeks is noticeably more full now) there are random, long stray hairs around my face, and the edges of my mustache were left significantly longer than the rest of it. I was going to say that maybe I could have been more forthright with exactly what I was looking for, but I've never had the same experience with another barber before. I told them that I was looking for very minor trims and cleanup, and they were communicative about when they got to my mustache. "What would wanna do with the mustache?" "Oh, if you can just trim the bottom to even it out that'd be fine" "Sure!". Of course I wouldn't expect it to be practically removed. After the cut was done, I was completely dissatisfied, but I was so jarred by the experience that I just wanted to go home and fix it myself. I am at least satisfied with the life lesson, and fine enough to just go elsewhere for my future haircuts. The only reason it wasn't a one-star is because I have had a good experience previously. Cheyenne was a previous stylist. She was very communicative, and delivered the haircut I asked for. She delivered the haircut I wanted and cleaned up my facial hair perfectly after asking what I was looking for.

I needed a good razor beard trim and I went to Sam in the River Market location. Best decision I’ve made. Sam was beyond excellent. I had so many compliments on my beard and that has never happened. She was kind, and suggested and I left it in her hands. I would recommend Sam to my friends and family anytime. I go back next week and looking forward to it. Sam rocks!!!!
