My wife and I love trying new brunch spots when we travel, and brunch at J. Graham’s Cafe inside the The Brown Hotel was a great experience from start to finish. We reserved through OpenTable, which made everything easy, and at $45 per person, the brunch was well worth the price. The selection was impressive and high quality. Our favorites were the braided short ribs, miso honey glazed salmon, chicken and waffles, roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and the made-to-order omelets. The pastries, cannolis, parfaits, soups, and bread pudding rounded everything out nicely. The service really stood out—attentive, friendly, and efficient, with a diverse staff that made us feel welcome. Bar service was quick, which is always a plus for brunch. The atmosphere had a classic, timeless feel with rich brown and plum tones and a unique paisley ceiling that gave the space character without feeling dated. If you enjoy brunch and like experiencing local favorites when you travel, this is definitely worth a visit. We would absolutely come back.

When planning to meet family in Louisville we decided on J Graham’s Cafe for lunch after looking at the menu and reviews online. Gorgeous historic building and as other reviewers have said, feels like stepping back in time and has been so well maintained. All staff in the cafe were welcoming and friendly. Our waitress Emily was very pleasant and attentive. Most in our group ordered the brunch buffet and one ordered the Hot Brown. There was quite a variety in the buffet…shrimp, salmon, short ribs, lox bagel, chicken and waffles, parfaits, and much more. I would recommend going towards the beginning of the buffet rather than the end like we did as you can tell that some things had dried out a little bit from being exposed to the air/heat for a while. Aside from that slight dryness on a few items, everything really was delicious. Unfortunately, the hot brown was not on the buffet, and since that was what one person really wanted to try, they ordered that. The Hot Brown did not disappoint! The turkey was very tender, sauce was perfect and they even give you the recipe at the end of your meal. Unfortunately, they do not tell you how to cook the turkey that perfect! We also tried their coffees with house made syrups, and they were excellent as well. Highly recommend “Ohh Honey, It’s a Cinn” coffee. After a meal, our waitress suggested we check out the second floor of the hotel. So beautiful! All in all, we really enjoyed our experience. I wish that the website had been clearer about the menu. On Saturdays and Sundays the regular lunch menu is NOT served. Just the brunch buffet and the hot brown. When I called to make the reservation, they did inform me about the auto gratuity for our party, but did not tell me that only the brunch and hot brown would be on the menu. When I looked at their website, it appeared to me that the buffet was offered in addition to the regular menu. Since we had looked at the menu and somewhat decided what we planned to order before going, that was a little disappointing. Also, we aren’t big eaters, so a buffet is really not our thing, especially not a $40 buffet. If the lunch menu had been available, I’m pretty sure this would have been a five star review! I would definitely visit here again, but would make sure which menu is being served before I went!

I highly recommend visiting J Graham’s Café inside the famous Brown Hotel. This is truly a one-of-a-kind experience that transports you back to the 1920s. The décor and architecture are stunning and make you feel like you’ve stepped into another time. I read that back in the day, the Brown would draw over 1,200 guests each evening for its dinner dances, which went late into the night and ended with the traditional ham and eggs. Out of that tradition, chef Fred Schmidt created the iconic Hot Brown—an open-faced turkey sandwich topped with bacon, tomatoes, and a delicate Mornay sauce. You absolutely must try the original right here where it all began. On Sundays, J Graham’s serves an extraordinary buffet with an impressive variety of food. You’ll find salmon, chicken and waffles, made-to-order omelets, fresh shrimp, deviled eggs, smoked salmon with bagels, Caesar salad, charcuterie, soups, vegetables, ribs, and so much more. What made our visit truly exceptional, though, was our server Kat. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. My daughter has a nut allergy, and Kat was so thorough and cautious, taking the time to confirm with the kitchen that every item was safe. Her genuine concern and careful attention gave my daughter such peace of mind and made us all feel completely cared for. Kat wasn’t just attentive, she was warm, thoughtful, and truly outstanding at her job. My daughter absolutely adored her, and our entire family was deeply impressed by the level of service she provided. Because of Kat, our experience at J Graham’s Café was not only delicious but also unforgettable. I would gladly come back here again and will absolutely request Kat as our server every time.
