Genesis Health Clubs - Southridge

In March of 2025 I was looking to join a gym on the south side of Des Moines with a pool so I could swim laps. At the time this Genesis location’s webpage specifically said it had a pool, hot tub, sauna, and cold plunge. Great, exactly what I was looking for. I went in for a tour/to join and the gentleman at the front desk told me it was actually all under construction but would be done by summer. Here it is January 2026 and they are nowhere near being finished with the project. Aside from that MINOR detail, the rest of the gym is pretty solid, save for having garbage rowers instead of Concept 2. Since the aquatic center may never be completed in my natural lifetime, I cancelled my membership and went across the street to Crunch Fitness. It’s half the price, twice the size and equipment, and has an actual sauna, that is real and fully functional, in both locker rooms. Best choice I’ve made in months.

I started going here in July. I got a personal trainer since I havent been to the gym for a while and I didnt want to hurt myself. The staff is friendly always saying hi or have a nice day. It's not forced, its apart of the atmosphere. I want to shout out my personal trainer Melanie! She is a rockstar! She absolutely knows what she is doing and I hit all of my goals that I wanted to hit because of her! I went in weighing at 225. Ended up with 187! Losing weight and building muscle! Thank you Melanie! She definitely deserves a pay raise! Thank you for a positive experience!

I really like this gym! It’s always very clean and well-maintained, and the staff provides great customer service. The only thing I’m not a big fan of is the bathroom doors they don’t offer much privacy. Other than that, everything else is great, and it’s definitely a nice place to work out

My wife was a member until the promises just kept being extended over & over. The pool has not been completed in over a year with the same amount of dollars as one with a pool. I paid for membership that she could not use I still paid after canceling. The place is clean friendly staff but way to costly. The value isn't there. They would tell her to go the west side, well we don't live on the west side! Please be reasonable adjust the membership pricing to fit the "facility" We did try to go there on Sunday 11-16-2025 the doors were locked at 5:30 PM

Joined in September of 2021 after a wonderful summer of outdoor swimming. It was critical to me to go to a place that has a pool. My single membership includes unlimited access to the entire facility. I added some personal training sessions to start on the right foot. My monthly dues are $47. Basketball courts, pool, cycling room, weight room, daycare, treadmill/climber/elliptical room, offices, locker rooms, restrooms in 2 locations.They have several group classes like swimming, cycling, yoga, and all kinds of things to do in a group. Handicap accessible facility with plenty of parking available. *Additional feedback. The first 3 or 4 months were wonderful. When my schedule changed, so did my experience at Genesis, not in a good way.
