Fitness Works Philadelphia

A great local gym. Pretty standard equipment and the numerous classes are super beneficial that they come with the membership. The pool and sauna are nice touches, but I feel like the general gym could use some good TLC when it comes to cleaning/maintenance. I have been attending this gym for a little over 4years. The one thing I cannot stand about this gym are the entitles people that attend it. Making all the grunting noises, purposefully slamming weights, and taking up multiple machines. The staff seems to actually encourage this, as when they work out, they are a part of this group. It is RARE to come to this gym and not hear all the excessive noises.

Fitness works has been a staple in the community for decades!!! My family has enjoyed staying in shape with the fitness works family for many many years. We enjoy the gym, classes, pool, as well as PHL fitness!!! Staying fit is a lifestyle and no one in South Philly promotes it better than the owners, Joe and Joanne !!! They exemplify fitness while providing the means for their clients to achieve it!!! Keep it up!!!

Fitness Works is a great gym. It’s clean, well-maintained, and never feels overwhelming. The staff is friendly, and it’s an easy place to stay consistent. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a reliable, no-nonsense gym.

I would not recommend this gym based on my experience with billing, communication, staff professionalism, and facility maintenance. A membership associated with my household was believed to be canceled over a year ago. Despite no attendance and no billing statements, late notices, or other communication, the gym later attempted to collect nine months of dues and sent the account to a collections agency. Management stated there was “no record of cancellation,” but also acknowledged that no notifications were sent while charges accrued. After I requested a proposed resolution in writing, management stopped responding. I also experienced repeated issues with front desk staff being rude and unprofessional, which made it difficult to resolve concerns. Phone calls were ended abruptly, and questions were not handled respectfully. There were also facility maintenance and safety concerns, including a mirror with broken glass and equipment that appeared outdated and poorly maintained. Based on these experiences, I would advise anyone considering this gym to document everything carefully and monitor their account closely. There are many better gym options available at the same price point. Comparable gyms, such as City Fitness, offer cleaner facilities and better-maintained equipment. In contrast, much of the equipment here is loud, squeaky, visibly worn, and often appears dirty, which raises reasonable concerns about cleanliness and upkeep.

Fitness Works is my second home. My favorite thing about it is that this is a no-nonsense place to train, everything is well maintained and people are respectful. Nothing is overly fancy or hyped up. For the size of the space they offer an impressive variety of stuff! There are selections of dumbbells on both main floors and some in the classroom, weight machines on both main floors, plenty of cardio equipment, a very nice pool, and there is even an area for boxing training. The classroom is large with pretty decent mirrors and you can use it for stretching etc. when there isn't a session going on. This probably wouldn't be a first pick for more advanced powerlifting or Olympic lifting since the space is a bit limited with just 3 squat racks and 2 deadlift platforms. Great place for general training and bodybuilding though. You can buy snacks and drinks at the front desk too. My only critique is that I wish they were open later and that there was a second chest fly machine.
