I cannot recommend Dimov Tax Specialists (DTS) for complex tax preparation, particularly cases involving multi-state residency and equity compensation (RSUs). My 2024 filing experience revealed significant competence issues in their advertised specialty areas, compounded by severe organizational problems. Over a 40-day filing process, approximately nine different staff members were involved with my return. This extreme turnover created constant confusion, procedural delays, and the same errors recurring across multiple drafts. I found myself repeatedly identifying and correcting fundamental mistakes, essentially serving as the firm's quality control. Key allocation forms necessary for multi-state compliance were persistently omitted or incorrectly prepared, directly contradicting the firm's claims of expertise. The preparation process ultimately required a mandatory filing extension and paper filing of the New York state return. The firm advertises local office locations in multiple cities (San Diego, NYC, Boston, Texas), creating the impression of dedicated local expertise. However, these appear to be co-working spaces or virtual addresses rather than traditional offices. My interactions were entirely remote with staff working across different time zones, and the service lacked any evidence of the local tax knowledge one would expect from an actual local firm. This contributed to both coordination issues and the multi-state filing errors. In August, they reached out for feedback and offered a credit (approximately 50% off) for future services. I declined, as my trust in their ability to deliver accurate, timely service was permanently eroded. Next year I'll be using TurboTax myself—I'm confident I can catch and fix my own errors faster than DTS caught theirs, and I'll save significant money and stress in the process.
