Black Orchid Barbers [MASS AVE]

Tanner is such a great guy who makes me feel heard and understood as I've been exploring my journey of growing my beard and hair out long. The building itself is nicely decorated and It feels like a luxury experience every time I go! Worth it!!

All the guys at Black Orchid are top notch barbers/cosmetologist. I had really great experience. Finding someone who understands how to cut and style hair for someone with alopecia can be difficult, but the barbers here were incredibly skilled and respectful. They took the time to listen to what I wanted and worked carefully to create a style that looked clean, natural, and confident. What stood out the most was their patience and attention to detail. They didn’t rush the process and made sure everything was blended perfectly. They also made the whole experience comfortable and welcoming, which meant a lot. It’s clear they truly care about their clients and take pride in their work. If you’re someone with alopecia or thinning hair and you’re nervous about getting a haircut, I highly recommend this place. They know what they’re doing and treat every client with professionalism and kindness. I walked out feeling great about my haircut and even more confident than when I walked in.

I have never laughed so hard in my life as I did when I saw my spouse’s haircut. It genuinely looked as if it had been done by someone who shears sheep — and does so blindly. This is the first time I am compelled to leave such a negative review. The haircut my spouse received today at your salon demonstrates a striking level of unprofessionalism. The result includes visibly uneven patches, temples cut at different lengths and angles, and a complete absence of basic blending or tapering skills. In short, this is an exceptionally poor haircut and easily the worst my spouse has ever received. The work is so substandard that it clearly requires correction. I would strongly encourage the salon manager to review this haircut in person, if only to see a clear example of how a haircut should NOT be done. Thank you. UPDATE Feb 8, 2026 After my initial review, the manager reached out — and this was exactly the level of customer service that should happen in situations like this. Amber handled everything the right way. We declined a refund (yes, they offered it with a haircut fix, but it won’t fair to get both IMHO) and just wanted to fix what had been done to the haircut. They scheduled us for a convenient day and time, and everything was corrected today in 15 minutes. Lucy is the best!

I really like this barbershop and the barbers who work there. They greet you cordially every time you’re there nice conversation but most of all, one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had by Tanner. Tanner is really good. Listens to the type of haircut you want makes notes that he refers back to every time you visit just couldn’t be any better

DO NOT GO TO CLAY, HE WILL MESS YOU UP. I told him “I want my hair to still curl but get it out of my face.” By the time he was done there was not a curl left on my head. Not only that but he entirely missed spots on the back of my head and sideburns, while also leaving the front uneven. Seemed like he didn’t care at all, just wanted to get me out the door. He was too busy talking to everybody else and clearly can’t multitask. However, I don’t hate the place. Lucy gave me a great haircut my previous visit. Lucy will be the only person to ever cut my hair again as long as I’m in Indianapolis. This haircut has seriously damaged my trust in barbers. Place is good, but have to give it a one star; a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Thought a place with such a good reputation wouldn’t let anybody like Clay in.
