Artz Landscape Designs

We had contacted Artz Landscape Designs to improve our backyard. Initially, we were quite impressed with the design Sam showed us and were sold. However, it was the process that really became infuriating. We were told that it should take 4-8 weeks to complete the job. For a variety of reasons to be explained, we quickly became disillusioned and very frustrated. One of the main ones was it took five months and is still not completed. Sam did not respond to our requests on project completion dates. His crew (below average subcontractors) performed medicare work, especially considering the total cost of the project. Artz did not give us a head’s up that we could rely on. Sometimes when they were just an hour away, they would call and say they were coming. Many times we were waiting and no one showed up. We eventually realized that Sam was juggling lots of jobs which led us to think we were at the back of the line. We felt very unimportant and not valued. There were many examples of poor workmanship. We had to have our pavers re-done twice. The first time the drains were inside the concrete and the second time the workman over-troweled the concrete, leaving it looking rough and uneven on the surface.. We were told we could get it re-done ourselves by someone else. The next problem was the fountain. They had no experience with this brand. First, when it was painted, there were lots of insects that were stuck to the surface. This had to be re-painted.. Then a leak appeared at the top and inside the columns. That required fixing too. The fountain was not attached to the main water line so it did not operate properly. By the end when we were ready to finish, several items needed to be completed. Even though Sam pushed back, he promised he would get them taken care of. It never happened. Sam told us to get the pavers fixed ourselves and deduct it from the total owed. The other item was getting the fountain connected to the main water line. He also promised to rectify this mistake. Once again, no further communication from him. It will be costly to get this work done. So at this point we are not using the fountain. This should have been done by Artz, since that's exactly why we hired them to do the job. They left us high and dry with an unfinished job. We can’t even count on a warranty. We were promised that we would have final approval before we made the last payment. We have not heard from Sam since. Therefore, I would strongly advise not working with them. !!Addendum. Just to clarify, my user name is Jack Brown because of spam.
