![This is Ayat, my friend and cousin, the little girl who once told me:I want to go back to playing.
This isn’t a sentence any child would say. Ayat isn’t just any child. She was saying this sentence while a third of her body was burned with fifth-degree burns. Ayat is my friend and cousin. She was killed by the occupation two months ago, but she resisted for two full months before her small body failed her.
My beloved Ayat, I am writing you this letter while my heart is no longer in its place. Your loss is special... unlike any other loss.
In the first picture, Ayat is receiving a new toy to replace the one burned by Israeli missiles in the school where she was displaced.
In the third, Ayat’s words when I saw her, 4 hours after the bombing... I will never forget how she said my name with a smile: Bisan you are here!!
We hoped she would be able to obtain a medical evacuation abroad to receive treatment, because a month after her injury, her doctors began reporting that her condition was not improving at all.
I was constantly following up with an international organization that would work to evacuate her. She was supposed to travel on July 16, 2025, while she was still able to travel. However, all her paperwork was complete except for the “security clearance” which every person from Gaza entering Jordanian territory must obtain, regardless of their age or condition.
Unfortunately, Ayat was unable to travel on that evacuation, which helped 140 children survive. Ayat’s condition began to deteriorate due to blood poisoning caused by burns that had not healed for two months. She fell into a coma last Sunday, July 27, 2025, four days after receiving her “security clearance” and three days before her scheduled departure for today.
Ayat’s condition required special medical transport, which was unavailable due to Israeli military restrictions. Consequently, she was unable to travel this morning, and her tiny body surrendered in the afternoon.
We all need answers now: Why isn’t there easier and more sustainable travel for the wounded? Why IsraHell is chasing the injured and kill them slowly?

Israel killed my uncle this morning.
I went to where he was displaced to spend some time with his family, my cousins and my classmates as well, we are at the same age, whose grief is no less than mine. There, I found dozens of books next to his bed. It's not surprising, since his most valuable possessions in his destroyed home were rare books and copies over a hundred years old. But what's strange is that he preferred reading during the genocide and was able to do so.
