Things haven't been the easiest recently (and I haven't had a lot of good to share), but sometimes the most beautiful blessings arrive right on time. I'm deeply honored and so grateful to be featured in essence magazine's special edition celebrating New Orleans and our 20 years of strength and rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. It's moving to see our story told with such care. New Orleans, you are truly one of a kind. Congratulations to everyone who shared their light in this edition, and thank you dominiquebfluker for such a thoughtful piece. My love for this city runs deep. We are literally the best in the world!! 💜

And, congrats to brittsmithphotography , too! Everything about Whitney J Decor got elevated when I started working with you, love! 2025-04-26 02:29:47 Things haven't been th.. 401 -5% 179 +90%
Facebook said today is our friendversary, which is crazy because I tried not to think about this day. Today is your first heavenly birthday, but it feels like just yesterday you were here. Just yesterday, I remembered to call you and ask you to tell me that story again - the inside one that only close family knows... the one that always had us in tears! You told the BEST stories. Thank you for making me laugh.

I pray that you've already made it to heaven, enjoying a soft, peaceful life where you are  treated like the queen I believe you are. Where you're rewarded for your love, support, and selflessness. Where the ground sparkles wherever your foot touches, being noticed for the greatness inside you... the greatness you always tried to diminish so that you didn't outshine others. Thank you for the confidence you instilled in me.

Only God could have created a mom so perfect for me, connected so strongly... one that I could only dream of. A mom who sacrificed her wants and needs on a daily basis for her children and anyone else in need. But, thank you for teaching me to put myself first.

Mom, I wish I had told you sooner to take care of yourself. To prioritize self-care. To spoil yourself, splurge on things that you wanted, and put first everything you needed. But, thank you for spoiling me.

I go to sleep hoping to see you in my dreams. I wake up hoping to be who you taught me to be. Thank you for instilling a drive and passion for excellence in me.

If you're worried about us, don't. We're okay - you did amazing, sweetie.

Rest well, Mama. I love you.

And, thank you.

It's been an awful year, but one thing about me... I'm gonna stay positive and look on the bright side!

Our neighbor's home caught fire two days ago, spreading to ours and leaving us with so much damage that we can't live home and have to replace half of our house!

The next day, it's our anniversary! But, on the bright side... no one was hurt. I was home to get my dogs out of the house.

This is going on at the same time as we need to find a new office - our lease is up at our current location, and we definitely need a much larger office space.

This whole office fiasco is exactly what we went through with our last location - around the same time when my mom first went to the hospital this time last year. We literally had to pack up and move while my mom was fighting for her life. Whew!

So, with that being said, for now, we're no longer hunting for a new office - we don't have time. Once we get settled in a temporary place to stay (that would take a big husky), we're gonna just concentrate on the clean up and repair of our house and our many design projects we're currently working on. A new office will come another time.

And, I know someone's going to ask - we do not need monetary donations (unless you're family, 🎵🎶 gimmmmee my moneeeeeee 🎶🎵 LOL), please instead purchase from our shop, so we don't have to keep storing product, and can instead allocate that space to storing house stuff!! 🤣🤣 We WILL ship your items ASAP!

We literally have to clear out our entire home for new floors and new drywall.

But, on the bright side... right after they put out the fire, I saw a butterfly flying outside of my front door, and when I walked past it, she followed me and fled around me over and over. This is the first time I've ever experienced that. I'm sure that was Big Wen (my Mom) telling me, 2024-10-04 20:40:17 It's.. 1,522 +262% 497 +426%

Is your dream bedroom dark and moody or bright and calming?

Personally, I love a dark and moody vibe, just like every room in my home. But when it comes to my clients, it’s all about creating spaces that reflect their unique personalities.

So, when my client asked for a bright and calming bedroom, I knew this soft palette with calming blue walls would be perfect. The result? A serene sanctuary that’s perfect for sweet dreams.

This sleek, thin TV sits flush against the wall with virtually no gap, transforming into a stunning piece of art when it's off. It's a game-changer for my design projects, impressing clients and becoming an instant conversation starter when guests come over. And, I like to bring in the fabulous frames from decotvframes , to add an extra touch of luxury and sophistication.

Why settle for a basic screen when you can have a showstopper that elevates your home's style? My clients are obsessed, their guests are impressed, and I love bringing this unique touch to every project.

Facing issues with your contractor? Try these 5 tips to resolve conflicts smoothly:

1. Communicate clearly and calmly: Address concerns directly without raising your voice to ensure understanding. Be respectful with your communication, no matter who's at fault or how mad you are.

2. Document all communications: Keep records of emails, texts, and agreements to avoid misunderstandings. I jot notes in my phone after almost every conversation with a client or contractor.

3. Set realistic expectations: Make sure both parties are on the same page about the project scope and timeline. Large kitchen renovations started and completed in one month? It doesn't matter who suggested it - it isn't a realistic expectation.

4. Seek compromise: Be open to finding a middle ground on disagreements to keep the project moving forward. Remember, insisting on your way could possibly delay the project even more.

5. Involve a mediator if needed: Consider bringing in a neutral third party to help resolve conflicts. Sorry, but your intimidating husband or confrontational friend will only make things worse.

I want us all to grow and excel in this business - there is so much work out there. But the copying needs to stop!!

And, no, I'm not talking about using the same shades of paint on the wall as another project you've seen. Or, the same wallpaper you fell in love with. That's how a lot of us discover materials we want to use.

I'm talking about blatantly copying another designers processes, mannerisms, and signature styles, and waiting to see what they're planning for their projects - so you can run and do the same thing.

To be a good interior designer without imitating others, it’s essential to cultivate a personal design philosophy that reflects your OWN unique perspective and experiences.

Start by exploring a wide range of design styles and historical periods for inspiration, not imitation. Then, focus on understanding the fundamental principles of design to create spaces that resonate with your OWN creative voice. I promise you'll find some amazing, original ideas inside you if you just slow down and listen to yourself.

Engage with the environment and the client’s needs, allowing these interactions to guide your design choices. Embrace experimentation with materials, textures, and colors, and don’t shy away from incorporating unconventional or handcrafted elements.

Remember, authenticity in design comes from a blend of knowledge, intuition, and the courage to break the mold. Be TRUE to your own vision, even when it's different from the rest — that’s what will make you a great interior designer.

My Marigny House Project is featured in the May/June issue of hgtvmagazine, and I'm so happy to see all my hard work paying off.

Before my mom passed, I was able to share the news that HGTV wanted to feature this kitchen. She was so invested in and excited about this project. When I presented the design for this kitchen, I brought my mom with me, and she was blown away by how I showed off my vision to my client. My mom was so proud of me. I'm so proud of myself. She saw how hard I worked for my clients. I hope you can see this moment, Mama.

So many of you have watched my journey and know how far I've come. I'm not done yet. This is just the beginning! Thank you to Jami and Kenley at hgtvmagazine for being so incredible to work with!

And, a BIG thank you to the_marigny_stoop for trusting me with his home (and his funds 🫣🤣🤣), giving me full creative control on this project. How this kitchen turned out is the perfect example of the gorgeous, unique home a client gets when they trust the process!! I know this kitchen will be used as inspiration for years to come! Let me go add it to pinterest!! 😁🫣🤪😂

Lastly, I absolutely could not have pulled this off without Mr. Ray with Royal Crest Construction.

From now on, tell your friends and family not to renovate their kitchen until they contact me!

My mom, Wendy Wiley Jones, funeral was on Jan. 27th. She had a delayed burial because of the weather, but we finally laid her to rest this past Friday. It was a beautiful and serene day with our closest family members.

I'm so thankful for the extra time we had with my mom because she was very close to leaving us on September 15. But she fought hard and stayed with us for four more months, thanks to Ochsner's CICU. It was hard to see her suffer and is a trauma that I doubt I can ever recover from, but it was also the most inspiring thing I've ever witnessed. She recovered mentally and showed us her wonderful personality again before she left this world.

She got to spend time with her kids, talk to us about her situation (which gave her some peace of mind, as a person who valued her independence), and make us smile and laugh with her humor and kindness.

We were so lucky to have her in our lives, and it's heartbreaking that she has gone too soon, but like they say... all good things must come to an end.

Slide 1: Our family photo when we were kids. We were all hoping to one day retake this photo. I hate the idea that we'll have to do Ilit without my mom.

Slide 2: Our auntie Vera led us with prayer. I'm so grateful for how she shows up for family and went above and beyond helping us care for our mom.

Slide 3: My brothers and sister, husband, sister-in-law Maja, brother-in-love Courtney, Uncle Angelo, Auntie Vera, my dad Floyd, and my mom's favorite cousin, Betty.

Slide 4: My mom specifically told my auntie that she wanted lots and lots of flowers for her service, and she wanted them pink!

With a heavy heart, I'm announcing the funeral date and location for our beloved mom, Wendy Wiley-Jones , who passed away on January 15th. She was one of the biggest lights of our lives, and I don't know what this life will be like without her. Our mom was my best friend and I already miss her so much.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 27th, at 10 a.m. at Second Salvation Baptist Church. We invite you all to join us in celebrating her life and honoring her memory. Our mom would have wanted us to be surrounded by love in this difficult time.

I appreciate all the messages of condolences and sympathy that I have received. I've read every message, but responding sometimes makes this loss feel more real than I can handle right now. But, I can't express how much the support means to me.

I also ask for your grace and understanding, as we try to navigate a new life without our mom and how to move back into a 2024-01-23 00:54:06 With a heavy heart, I'm a.. 765 +82% 144 +53%
💔💔💔 I am gutted, so please bear with me - I'm still trying to make sense of my life right now.

Late Sunday night, we lost our amazing mom, Wendy Jones. She was 56 years old. My mom fought an unbelievable battle against heart disease, spending over 115 days in ICU (over 60 of those days intubated and sedated). Ultimately, her heart was just too weak, and she passed peacefully in the hospital.

I promised I would help her share her story, so here I am sharing some of it now.

Our mom was a fighter.

Throughout her fight, she coded 6 times, was on a ventilator, was attached to a heart pump, was on several IV medicines for her blood pressure, and was on dialysis. Doctors told us over and over again that (1) she'd never be able to breathe on her own, (2) her heart would never be able to pump strongly to sustain life without the heart pump, (3) she could never be able to use her lungs to cough up mucus, (4) she'd never be able to move her body and limbs. She was too weak. She would never leave the hospital. They encouraged us to remove her from life support. We chose to let her fight.

I kept my prayers very specific.

We spent almost every day with her in the hospital, and it was awful watching her in a medically induced coma, while she had no idea what was happening to her. I prayed that she could wake up enough to be able to communicate with me. To tell me if she wanted to continue fighting. From the depths of my soul, I knew my mom would want to fight. I knew she wanted to live. I knew she didn't want to leave her 8 children.

Then... her blood pressure started to stabilize, and it was game on!

When I knew she could understand me, I asked her what is probably the most important question I'll ever have to ask someone: 2024-01-16 22:19:59 💔💔💔 I am gutted,.. 2,368 +463% 607 +543%

This is just my opinion, but without something on your walls, a room looks unfinished! Wallpaper is my favorite element to invest in. In every single design project I quote, I'm considering wallpaper. When I don't use wallpaper, I'm trying to use millwork, a custom built-in, a decorative paint finish, or even a unique gallery wall to really dress up the walls and make a space feel special and complete! 2023-08-31 04:32:10 This is just my opinion, .. 224 -47% 39 -59%
Thinking about renovating your kitchen? Here's what you should know. This kitchen was a complete gut job! We completely reconfigured the layout of everything, including the sink and appliances.

3 things to know that'll prepare you for your kitchen renovation:

(1) There's a chance that your dream layout/design will not be possible. This may be due to costs, local codes, timeline, or general sensibility. Be prepared to pivot.

(2) There's a chance that your contractor will find serious problems behind your walls or under your floors that have to be fixed BEFORE putting your kitchen back together. Be prepared to spend more than you expected. It's a good idea to have a contingency budget on the side (about 15% - maybe even 20%) in case this happens.

(3) There's a chance that your project will take longer than expected. Generally, there's a lot of moving parts (and PEOPLE) involved in a kitchen renovation. Things come up. People get sick. Cabinets get delayed. Materials go out of stock. Be prepared to be flexible with your expected timeline.
