Comment “GUIDE” for info on tickets and how to get there.

The Reggia di Caserta is the largest royal palace in Europe by volume — and it’s taken me this long to visit it.

Just 40 minutes from Naples or about 2 hours from Rome, the Royal Palace of Caserta is perfect for a day trip if you’re exploring southern Italy. You’ll need at least 5 hours to fully experience both the Royal Palace of Caserta inside and its sprawling gardens, which are some of the most breathtaking gardens in Italy — complete with fountains, waterfalls, and views that rival Versailles.

Here’s the twist for my fellow nerds: this isn’t just a UNESCO site, it’s also a Star Wars location! Parts of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were filmed here, making it the real-life Naboo palace you’ve seen on screen. Walking these halls feels surreal when you realize they were once home to kings and Jedi.

✨ Pro tip:
Book a guided tour to bring the history to life. We didn’t and we missed out, there’s so much behind these walls that you won’t catch on your own.

If you love visiting majestic palaces and secret gardens, comment “GUIDE” below, and I’ll send you my full list of the most incredible places near Naples, as well as other beautiful palaces and gardens you can visit around Italy.

Save this post for your future Italy itinerary — especially if you’re planning day trips from Naples Italy or day trips from Rome Italy.

Comment “GARDENS” for my full guide

Breathtaking Gardens to Visit in Italy ✨

Italy is home to world-class art and UNESCO palaces, and it also has some of the most beautiful gardens in the world. 🌿

From perfectly symmetrical Renaissance Italian gardens, designed to showcase power and precision, to romantic English-style landscapes filled with lakes, waterfalls, and winding paths, each one tells a different story.

Over the years, I’ve explored several of these stunning spots — and every visit leaves me amazed at how no two Italian gardens are ever the same. Some are dreamy and wild, others grand and theatrical, often connected to opulent villas or royal palaces.

Here are just a few of my favorites:

🏞 Villa Taranto – Lake Maggiore’s botanical wonder, home to over 20,000 rare plant species 🌸
🏰 Palazzo Borromeo, Isola Bella – a garden that rises from the water like a Baroque theatre 🎭
💦 Villa d’Este, Tivoli – UNESCO World Heritage site with 100+ gravity-fed fountains
🌿 Giardino di Ninfa – often called “the most romantic garden in the world”
🔹 Villa Lante – harmony and symmetry at its finest, a hidden Renaissance gem
👑 Reggia di Caserta – Southern Italy’s answer to Versailles, with gardens stretching for 120 hectares

These are just a fee, my full list includes 30+ breathtaking gardens across Italy, from day-trip escapes near Rome to cliffside terraces on the Amalfi Coast and lakeside paradises in Northern Italy.

💬 Comment “gardens” below, and I’ll send you the link to explore them all and start planning your next Italian adventure!

Dear Diary | Entry 1 – Pieces of childhood ☀️

We all have that one place that takes us straight back to childhood.

The kind of place where, the moment you arrive, it feels like no time has passed at all.

For me, one of those places is hotelpuntarossa

I’ve been coming here since I was six, and when I turned eight, we moved to Houston.
But no matter how far away we were, every summer we’d return to Italy — and part of that trip always meant coming back here. It was the summer thing we all counted down to.

My sister learned to swim in the pool here, our birthdays were celebrated with delizia al limone, and we’d spend hours chasing crabs along the rocks before running back to swim until our lips turned purple.

As we got older, life shifted and we didn’t come as often… but whenever we do, it’s like stepping back in time.

The same familiar faces, the same breathtaking sea, and of course, Lorenzo’s legendary sgroppino al limone — still the best one I’ve ever had.

Last weekend was one of those trips back, and it reminded me why some places never leave you. 🌿

Do you have a place that instantly brings you back to childhood? 💭

September is such a great month to explore northern Italy — cooler weather, fewer crowds, and the perfect time for beautiful day trips from Milan to soak up nature. 🍂🌊

If you’re planning a September trip to Italy and want a peaceful escape, here’s an underrated lake day trip you need to know about.

I partnered with discovera.it a platform in partnership with trenord , that makes it so easy to plan day trips around Lombardy.
🚆 Trains, 🚤 ferries, 🎟️ activities — everything bundled into one ticket, one click.

Just 90 minutes from Milano-Cadorna, you’ll reach Laveno, a quiet lakeside town most tourists skip. From there, you can:

🚤 Hop on a ferry to explore the islands of Lake Maggiore, ans
🚡 Ride the Funivia di Laveno, a vintage open-air cable car that takes you 1,000m up to one of northern Italy’s most breathtaking viewpoints.

The vibes? Peaceful.
The views? Absolutely unreal.

I booked the “Laveno e il Maggiore + Funivia di Laveno” package on discovera.it, which included:
✔️ Round-trip train tickets from any Lombardy station
✔️ The cable car ride
✔️ The ferry to explore Lake Maggiore’s islands

No stress, no juggling multiple bookings — just show up and go. 🙌

Use my code DISCOVERA-WHERETOGOIN5 to get €5 off your first trip.

Between the aperitivo at the top, the quiet nature, and those crazy-good panoramas, this is one of the best hidden gems near Milan — perfect for underrated lakes in northern Italy and peaceful day trips from Milan that aren’t Lake Como.

📍 Save this for later — more Italy travel tips and Lake Maggiore itineraries coming soon!

Comment “GUIDE” for all my tips 🚆

Back in July, I explored Lake Maggiore and it blew me away!

In just over an hour by train from Milan, you can swap the city chaos for island hopping, botanical gardens, and even a ride on a vintage bucket cable car!

I booked everything through discovera.it , the official platform in partnership with trenord for day trips by train around Lombardy. 🚆

It made planning so easy! You get one single ticket for train + ferry + experiences, leaving straight from any station in Lombardy (I departed from Milan from Milano Cadorna and Milano Centrale).

Here are the 3 Lake Maggiore day trips I went on, all car-free and stress-free:

🚤 Borromean Islands – start with the peaceful gardens of Isola Madre, grab lunch on Isola dei Pescatori, and end with the iconic palace and terraces of Isola Bella.

🌸 Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens – 16 hectares of rare plants and flowers from all over the world.

⛰️ Laveno Cable Car – a quirky open-air ride with 360° lake and Alpine views, perfect for nature trails and a scenic aperitivo.

💡 Use my code DISCOVERA-WHERETOGOIN5 to get €5 off your first booking on Discovera.it!

Comment “GUIDE” for my Amalfi Coast tips 🫶

I spent a week on the Amalfi Coast and, as always, Positano pulled me back in. 💛 We arrived before sunset and wanted an aperitivo with a view, and while standing at one of the lookouts we spotted a beautiful rooftop from the street. Curiosity won and we went down to check it out.

Turns out it’s the brand-new rooftop bar of Hotel Marincanto, and it’s called Red Positano. And let me tell you — what a find. 🍸

The setup is beautiful: there are lounge chairs and chic bar stools that give you a front-row seat to Positano. Even if you’re not sitting on the edge, you still feel like you have a 360° view of the town — which is just magical at golden hour.

✨ They’re open from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm — the perfect aperitivo window. Cocktails were spot on, the food was delicious, and the whole atmosphere felt relaxed but elevated.

Since they’ve recently opened, it still feels like a little gem waiting to be discovered. I’m sure it’ll be one of the hottest spots by next summer, but if you’re visiting in the upcoming weeks, now is the time to enjoy it.

Definitely a place I’d recommend adding to your Positano itinerary. It’s the perfect place for sunset drinks in Positano.

One of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Italy, less than 2hrs from Milan by train + ferry thanks to discovera.it — the official platform in partnership with trenord that lets you book curated day trips from Milan by train, with everything bundled in one place: train tickets from any station in Lombardy, activities, ferries.

The garden I visited is called Villa Taranto, and it’s one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world, located right on Lake Maggiore.

No crowds (especially on weekdays), 20,000+ rare plants, waterfalls, and lake views. If you’re looking for chill alternatives to Lake Como, save this.

Here’s how to book it yourself:

🎟 I booked the “Laveno e il Maggiore” experience on discovera.it, which includes:

✔️the train from any station in Lombardy
✔️the ferry rides across Lake Maggiore
✔️entrance to the Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens

👉If it’s your first time using the platform, use the code DISCOVERA-WHERETOGOIN5 for €5 off your first purchase.

🚊How to get to Villa Taranto from Milan:

From Milano-Cadorna, I hopped on a train to Laveno Mombello Lago, then took a short ferry to Intra, followed by another quick ferry straight to Villa Taranto. There are also direct ferries from Laveno to Villa Taranto, but you should check the times.

Everything’s included in one ticket. Zero stress. Zero queues!

🌿 The gardens of Villa Taranto were created in the 1930s by a Scottish captain named Neil Boyd McEacharn. He transformed the hillside into a peaceful mix of English-style landscaping and Italian garden symmetry, with panoramic views of Lake Maggiore.

🕥 They’re open from April to October.

If you’re planning a Milan lake trip, a Lake Maggiore day trip, or looking for one day trips from Milan that are easy, relaxing, and gorgeous — this is the one.

Comment “LAKE” to receive my guide to the best lake maggiore day trips from Milan by train and ferry — no car needed, just peaceful escapes and jaw-dropping views.

Last week I was in Milan and went on 3 incredible day trips — all easy to reach in just over an hour by train.

🚤 One took me island-hopping across Lake Maggiore, where I wandered through Italian-style gardens and visited one of the most breathtaking baroque palaces in Italy, perched right on the water. Picture shell-encrusted grottoes, terraced gardens with peacocks, and centuries of aristocratic history.

🌸 Another led me to Villa Taranto, a massive botanical garden created by a Scottish captain in the 1930s. It’s filled with rare plants, tulip-lined paths, and lake views so quiet it feels like a dream.

🚠 And the third? A standing cable car ride to one of the best viewpoints in Northern Italy — where I had an aperitivo overlooking the lake and the distant Alps. The views were honestly emotional.

📍If you’re looking for beautiful, underrated alternatives to Lake Como — these are it. Just comment “lake” and I’ll send you the full guide. It includes exact train routes, ferry tips, and what to do once you arrive.

Whether you’re into waterfalls, vineyards, ancient villas or secret gardens, this list is packed with escapes you won’t believe are just outside the city.

Comment “Kuala Lumpur” and I’ll DM you my full KL guide — packed with tips on where to go out, nightlife in Kuala Lumpur, rooftop bars, restaurants, and where to stay.

Kuala Lumpur has one of the coolest skylines in Asia 🌆
Everyone knows the iconic Petronas Twin Towers — but don’t forget about Merdeka 118, the second tallest building in the world.

And the best way to enjoy these views? From a rooftop bar with a great cocktail in hand.

Here are 4 rooftop bars in Kuala Lumpur you need on your radar:

🍸 Upper House (📍Chinatown)
A hidden modern Asian restaurant and rooftop bar with an epic view of Merdeka 118. Trendy but chill, perfect for dinner, happy hour, or post-dinner drinks. Keep an eye on their IG upperhouse.kl — they host great weekend parties too.

🍷 Mesa on 51 (📍KLCC)
Part of the Marini’s group, this one serves Spanish food instead of Italian. Huge rooftop, incredible Petronas view, and a fun, party vibe. I went to the opening — the scene was amazing. mesaon51

🥂 Sky 51 (📍Bukit Bintang)
At the top of EQ Hotel, this rooftop is stylish and spacious. It’s more social-lounge than party — ideal for conversations, cocktails, and stunning skyline views.

🍾 Marini’s on 57 (📍KLCC)
KL’s most iconic rooftop lounge. Located right next to the Twin Towers with unbeatable views. Go for Italian fine dining or head straight to the lounge for smooth drinks and dancing. marinison57

📍 Important: All of these spots require a reservation — especially on weekends. You can book online via their websites, call directly, or check their Instagram pages for updates.

✨ Comment “SKY” and I’ll send you the exact Uluru stargazing tour I did!

If there’s one thing you can’t miss in Australia, it’s seeing the Milky Way from the heart of the Outback. The Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park in the Red Centre is one of the best places in the world for stargazing — zero light pollution, crisp winter skies, and the clearest view of the Milky Way from June to August.

But here’s the catch: most people unknowingly book tours near the resort. Cute skies? Sure. But if you want this view (see Slide 2 👀), you need to head deep into the Australian Outback where the skies are completely untouched by light pollution.

The Uluru stargazing tour I booked took us far from the lights, set us up with telescopes, shared stories of Aboriginal astronomy, and even included a photo under the stars. I’d do it again in a heartbeat — and I can send you the exact link.

Comment “TUSCANY” for my Monte Argentario guide!

This Tuscan seaside gem is just under 2 hours from Rome and loved by locals for a reason. Monte Argentario is a dreamy promontory connected to mainland Tuscany by two strips of land—home to stunning beaches, clear waters, and easy access to the islands of Giglio and Giannutri.

Here’s what not to miss:
🚤 Rent a boat to discover hidden coves
⛱️ Lounge at top beaches like Feniglia, Giannella, and Ansedonia
🌅 Catch a sunset aperitivo by the sea
⛴️ Hop on a ferry to Giglio or Giannutri for a day trip

Boat rental tips:
No license needed if the engine is under 40cv and you’re within 6 miles from the coast. Rates start at €150/day.

Where to stay?

Comment “Ponza” to get my full guide to Ponza Island!

Planning a trip to the best island near Rome? You’re going to love it — but there are a few things you need to know before you go:

⛴️ Ferries from Formia run year-round, while Anzio is seasonal (May to September).
⚠️ Avoid the weekend of June 29th — it’s packed with Romans for the Saints Peter & Paul holiday.
🛥️ Renting a boat is the way to explore Ponza. No license needed if you stay under 40 HP (perfect for gozzo boats).
🌊 This isn’t a beach holiday — the best spots like Cala Felce, Cala del Core, and Le Formiche are boat-only coves.
🏡 Stay near the port for restaurants and nightlife, or in Le Forna for a quieter, local vibe.
🍸 Go for sunset drinks at Le Terrazze, then dinner at spots like Oresteria or Il Tramonto.
🏝️ If the weather’s calm, don’t skip a boat trip to Palmarola — it’s breathtaking.

There’s so much more in the full guide — from how to get there and where to stay, to what to eat, where to swim, and local tips that will make your trip easier.

Ep. 6 | THE LIST — Luxury Amazon River Cruise

If you’ve ever dreamed of drifting through the heart of the Amazon, you’re not alone — I haven’t been yet, but it’s high on my luxury travel bucket list.

Delfin Amazon Cruises delfinamazoncruises takes you deep into the Pacaya Samiria Reserve — known as the Jungle of Mirrors — on a boutique Amazon river cruise that looks like something out of another world.

This isn’t your average river cruise. Picture waking up to sloths in the treetops, kayaking through flooded forests, and exploring one of the most untouched corners of the rainforest.

With small ships and immersive jungle excursions, it’s the kind of experience that brings you close to nature without giving up comfort. From pink river dolphins to night safaris, it’s a mix of adventure and stillness — the kind of slow travel I crave.

If you’re building your dream list of once-in-a-lifetime trips, this is one I’d absolutely add. It’s the kind of journey that feels both grounding and unforgettable — and one I can’t wait to experience one day.

Ep. 5 | THE LIST — Immersive stay in Morocco

What makes a place unforgettable isn’t just how it looks — it’s how it’s designed around you.

dar_ahlam isn’t the kind of hotel where you scroll through a menu or plan your day in advance. You don’t ask for an experience — you live it, moment by moment. One day, you’re eating breakfast in a garden you didn’t know existed. The next, you’re dining under the stars in the middle of the desert.

At least… that’s how I imagine it.

I haven’t been — not yet — but everything about this place makes it feel like the kind of once-in-a-lifetime experience I’ll be thinking about long before and long after I go.

It’s not about luxury in the traditional sense.
It’s about being seen without having to say a word. Everything is curated for you — quietly, beautifully, without asking.

This is the kind of place that doesn’t hand you an itinerary. It gives you space. It listens. And then it surprises you.

It’s been at the top of my luxury travel bucket lost for a while now — maybe it’ll be on yours too!

Comment “GUIDE” for the best snorkeling spots and beaches in Koh Tao, Thailand

If you’re dreaming about snorkeling in Thailand, Koh Tao should be at the top of your list.

We spent a full day exploring the island by private long-tail boat (highly recommend if you want to avoid crowds), and honestly, it was some of the best snorkeling Southeast Asia has to offer.

We stopped at 6 different spots, including Mango Bay, Ao Leuk, and Shark Bay—each spot was unreal. Crystal clear water, colorful coral, and we even swam with turtles!

If you’re looking for the best places for snorkeling in Thailand, this island is where it’s at. You can book a group snorkeling tour or a private one for 2000-3000 baht.

Comment “KUALA” for my full guide to KL

Looking for the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur? Here’s a mix of iconic spots and hidden gems you won’t want to miss:

✨ Chinatown — Go beyond the surface with a private tour with klhwalks . We discovered hidden tea houses, traditional Chinese herbal shops, and secret corners we would’ve missed on our own

✨ Beta — A Michelin-starred restaurant reimagining Malaysian cuisine with a super creative, stylish vibe. One of the coolest dining experiences we had in KL. beta.kl

✨ Sky 51 — Rooftop cocktails with incredible skyline views. Perfect for sunset (and trust me, you’ll want to stay for more than one drink). eqkualalumpur

✨ Petronas Towers — Iconic for a reason. Head up to the skybridge for unforgettable views over the city.

✨ Marini’s on 57 — Lively rooftop party vibes with jaw-dropping views of the Petronas. Come here for a night out you’ll actually remember. marinison57

✨ Batu Caves — Climb the colorful steps and explore one of Malaysia’s most stunning natural and spiritual sites. A must-visit.

✨ Speakeasy Bars — KL has an amazing hidden bar scene. One of my favorites was tucked away in Chinatown—hidden entrances and seriously good cocktails. ps150kl

✨ Frangipaani — Upscale Indian cuisine in a gorgeous colonial-style setting. Delicious food + dreamy ambiance = perfect combo. frangipaani.kl

✨ Pavilion KL — The ultimate stop for luxury shopping, amazing food courts, and a (very welcome) air-conditioned break.

✨ Changkat Bukit Bintang — KL’s nightlife hotspot! Bars, clubs, and a buzzy, fun energy that keeps the party going all night.

Ep. 4 | THE LIST — Sleeping in a castle in Scotland

Ever dreamed of sleeping in a castle in Scotland? Let me introduce you to inverlochycastlehotel in the Western Highlands — a castle that made Queen Victoria call it the most romantic place she’d ever seen.

It’s tucked near Fort William, surrounded by misty lochs and pine-covered hills, in that part of Scotland that feels cinematic even without trying.

You wake up to the mountains. Spend your day hiking or riding the real-life Hogwarts Express. Then come back to fireside tea, antique-filled rooms, and the kind of quiet that makes you forget what day it is.

If you’re dreaming of luxury Scottish Highlands escapes, this belongs on your luxury travel bucket list.
It combines everything I look for in a destination: history, setting, and that rare feeling of stillness.

Comment “VENICE” for my full guide ✨

A few weekends ago, we took the train from Rome to Venice for the premiere night of Anna Bolena at La Fenice.

It turned into one of those truly special 24-hour trips.

If you’re thinking of spending just one day in Venice—or planning a trip around an opera night—here’s how we did it:

✔️ Stayed steps away from La Fenice Opera House (so easy and convenient).
✔️ Had an early dinner right by the theatre.
✔️ Spent the next morning exploring hidden gems like Museo Fortuny and Scala Contarini del Bovolo.

We visited some of the best places to visit in Venice Italy—all without rushing across the city—and made it a truly elegant escape.

If you’ve got tickets to the Venice opera, or you just want a more curated way to experience the city, save this for your next trip!
