You gotta take advantage of the moments, so I took the opportunity to have a solo picnic after my track session and I brought grapesfromca along with me. It’s hard to believe that the summer is almost over. I didnt even go to the beach 😩. Even more of a reason for me to make some time to chill in the sun and eat some good food. California Grapes were perfect for this picnic, balancing out the savory of my sandwich and chips. They were also ideal for replenishing and hydrating after running. They say racing never gets easier because the goals are always moving and you’re constantly pushing yourself to meet them. I knew with the opportunity to run the Berlin Marathon I wanted to push myself in my training and see where it takes me. #createdwithadidas The adidasrunning Adizero Evo SL and Adios Pro 4 have been key in my training, but I will be running in the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 on race day. This shoe is one of a kind. The Pro Evo 2 has a 10% increase in the forefoot stack height, delivering 5% more energy return, all at the same weight as the Pro Evo 1. I’m excited to bring them out and see where I land. This 10-week training block has been intense, but gratifying and I’ve had the best support from my coach along the way. Let’s see how far we can push it.

The Berlin Marathon is right around the corner and I’m fine tuning things to support my training. If you’ve been following my racing journey for the past couple of years, you know that grapesfromca is a regular thing for me especially during my summer training. I get a few frequently asked questions about my experience with running, so I’m gonna share some insights here. First, a big shoutout to my coach allheartrc for getting me prepared for the Berlin Marathon. I’m working hard and even with me not always hitting my paces, MK’s encouragement is so helpful. Thank you! Also shoutout to the adidasrunning adidasus team. Now for the FAQs:
💪🏾 Maintaining muscle while running so much:
I’ve been lifting for about 20 years with an emphasis on bodybuilding type training/ strength training. Although I’ve been prioritizing running since 2023, the muscle kind of sticks around. Of course I’ve gotten leaner (on purpose so I run more efficiently), but if you want to maintain muscle, make sure you’re eating enough (all of the macros), don’t stop lifting and make sure you’re resting enough.
💦 Hydration:
I have electrolytes every day, in addition to plain water. I typically use liquid iv at home, but if I’m out, I’ll grab a Gatorade or Electrolit since they’re higher in sodium, which I sweat a lot. Sometimes I’ll have electrolytes before my shorter runs, but lately I’ve been just sticking to my cup of coffee. I run with a 17oz soft flask filled with water which lasts about 5-6 miles before I refill it if I’m doing a longer run. I always sip on my water, even within the first 200 meters of my run. If the thought of drinking water comes to mind, I’ll just take a sip. You don’t wanna wait until you’re struggling to hydrate. I’ve been having my electrolytes after my shorter runs lately.
🚲 Cross Training:
I strength train once a week to support my running and prevent injuries. Scroll back some vids and you’ll see what that looks like for me. I also do yoga once a week to keep my mind and body right. I typically commute on my bike or walk, so that’s how I get more activity in as well. 
🥯 Fueling:
I always have an entire bagel or majority of a bagel before all of my runs. It really depends on the distance. Since I have coffee before my runs, having the bagel helps to keep me from feeling like 🤢 when I need to hit faster paces especially. One of the best purchases in my adult life has been a waffle maker 😂 deadass. I use it so often and one of my favorite waffles to make is vegan chocolate blueberry protein waffles 🌱🍫🫐💪🏾🧇. They’re so simple to make too 🔥 here’s what you need:
80g flour
10g baking powder
1 serving chocolate protein powder (I use Orgain)
Pinch of salt
1 cup almond milk
1/2 cup wild blueberry (better because they’re smaller)
Cook according to the instructions of your waffle maker. I do a total of 4 mins but flip it 2 mins in. This will yield 2 waffles. Top with more wild blueberries, maple syrup and vegan whipped cream.
