📌 Paraty, Brazil

Days 327 - 333

Paraty is one of the most beautiful places I've ever witnessed. There are gorgeous buildings, beautiful beaches and fantastic food! There is great nightlife here - and particularly like that sweet & chocolate stands are waiting for when you fall out of the pub (midnight brigadeiro hits the spot!)

We took the most amazing day trip to remote islands, snorkelling in crystal clear water and relaxing on white sand beaches.

Booked a lovely hotel for Adam's birthday and spent the weekend celebrating in true backpacking style (with violent food poisoning!). Swings and roundabouts. 2024-11-24 04:58:18 📌 Paraty, Brazil Day.. 16 +2% 0 -
📌 São Paulo, Brazil

Days 320 - 326

After spending a few weeks in nature, I didn't feel ready to head back into a big city and felt somewhat intimidated by São Paulo's reputation. But I was seriously impressed!

It was a very, very long bus ride into the city (they don't lie about the crazy traffic here), but it was completely worth it.

Amazing street art, fun markets, incredible food and very friendly people! My favourite was the Sunday road closures (popular all around Latin America), where the streets transformed into a huge party. Live music, drinking, dancing and lots of fun! 2024-11-15 04:05:32 📌 São Paulo, Brazil .. 15 -4% 0 -
📌 Curitiba, Brazil

Days 315 - 319

After only discovering this place existed a few weeks ago, Curitiba was an amazing addition to the Brazil itinerary! The main attraction here: the Serra Verde Express.

A four-hour train ride takes you right through the rainforest. Incredible views, spectacular low clouds and amazing cliff drops on either side! The train ride itself was worth the pit-stop in Curitiba.

We enjoyed a few hours in Morretes and sampled their famous beef stew - which the waiter very proudly demonstrated making over my head. Never a dull day! 2024-11-15 03:58:31 📌 Curitiba, Brazil D.. 15 -4% 0 -

Days 310 - 314

And it's back to beach life with a bang!

We took a two-hour flight from Iguazu and landed in Paradise. After a brief mishap (aka, turning up at the wrong hostel), we settled into the slow life of long days on the beach and evenings drinking Caipirinhas.

I definitely could have stayed longer here, but we were very conscious that there is so much to explore in Brazil, so it was just a short three-night pit stop.

Until next time, Floripa! 🌴🦩🐬🍹🐠 2024-11-08 18:31:49 📌 Flori.. 13 -17% 0 -
📌 Iguazu Falls, Brazil

Days 307 - 309

After a fantastic time in Argentina, it was time to hop over the border to country number nine: Brazil!

Crossing the border at Iguazu was the easiest land border experience ever - literally hopped in a taxi, and the whole process was completed in under half an hour.

My experience at Iguazu Falls in Brazil was very different to the one in Argentina. There is just one hiking trail, meaning it is much busier and more crowded. However, you do get much closer to the falls, which is great fun!

Amazing start to this country, and very excited to see what the rest of Brazil has in store. 2024-11-08 18:21:57 📌 Iguazu Falls, Brazil.. 14 -10% 1 +100%
📌 Iguazu Falls, Argentina

Days 306 - 308

A short flight from Buenos Aires brought us to our final stop in Argentina, Iguazu Falls. The 38-degree weather was not for the faint-hearted, but we made use of the swimming pool to cool off for the first afternoon.

Iguazu Falls can be accessed from Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. We opted to do this as our border crossing into Brazil, spending a day exploring the Argentinian side beforehand.

The hype around Iguazu Falls is correct - it's absolutely one of the most beautiful natural environments I have ever experienced. Yes, it was very crowded at the best photo spots, but it was amazing to witness the power of the waterfalls up close.

On the Argentinian side, there are four hikes that take you to various viewpoints. We did all four to get the full experience. 30K steps and some very sore feet later, I can confidently say it was worth it!

I can't believe that's a wrap on Argentina. It's one of the most special countries I've had the pleasure of visiting. It's a shame we didn't time it quite right to make it to Patagonia, but that's an excuse to return another time! 2024-10-26 21:14:15 📌 Iguazu Falls, Argent.. 18 +15% 0 -
📌 Buenos Aires, Argentina

Days 287 - 305

We got the ferry back to Buenos Aires and had a couple of days to recoup before our very special guest arrived. It was so much fun to explore Buenos Aires with my mum - and we packed a lot into the two weeks! Some of the highlights included:

⚽ Exploring La Boco
🛶 A day trip to Tigre
🌸 The Japanese Gardens
💃🏻 Seeing the Tango in San Telmo (amazing!)

📌 Uruguay

Days - 281 - 288

It's not very often that I return from a country with no desire to go back. There probably should have been alarm bells ringing when we told a new friend we were spending a week in Uruguay, and he looked at us, completely shocked😂.

After a couple of nights in the incredibly underwhelming capital of Montevideo, we were excited to pick up our campervan and hit the road. Our old rust bucket took us all the way down the coast, where we parked and had a nice couple of nights by the sea.

Next, we headed inland for a few nights, and our tiny little van ended up parked with the big rig guys! It was pretty funny to see our camper dwarfed by the 11-tonne machines!

What is there to do in this area, you ask? Absolutely nothing! We drank beer, ate pasta, and watched the novelty of having a home on wheels quickly fade away.

We dropped the van back on in Montevideo, spent the best part of an hour arguing over missing Tuppawear, admitted defeat, and hopped on a bus out of there!

Our final night was spent in Colonia del Sacramento, a very pretty coastal town with great architecture and nice food. I was very happy to end the week on a high, but all in all, my least favourite country in South America! 2024-10-26 20:29:49 📌 Uruguay Days - 2.. 12 -23% 0 -
📌 Buenos Aires, Agentina

Days 278 - 281

Just a short bus ride from Rosario, we made a quick pit stop in Buenos Aires before heading to country number eight of the trip.

Honestly, we couldn't have wished for a better start to Buenos Aires (apart from the boiler exploding and nearly flooding an entire apartment block—a story for another day, maybe). I love, love, love Buenos Aires. The San Telmo area was my favourite, with its incredible Sunday market and amazing food.

I think Buenos Aires might be my favourite capital city ever (bold statement, right?!). Excited to return and explore more of what it has to offer! 2024-10-26 20:09:39 📌 Buenos Aires, Agen.. 10 -36% 0 -
📌 Rosario, Argentina

Days 273 - 277

Rosario is a really cool city just a few hours outside of Buenos Aires. One thing is certain about this city: they are football crazy! There are murals all over the city, football in every bar and restaurant, and the famous football museum (that even managed to grab my attention).

But aside from football, Rosario has a really nice, laid-back vibe. We were lucky enough to visit over a sunny weekend, so we enjoyed long walks along the river, soaking in the atmosphere and getting to understand Argentina's famous mate culture. 2024-10-21 05:23:55 📌 Rosario, Argentina .. 12 -23% 0 -
📌 Cordoba, Argentina

Days 267 - 272

After another very, very long coach journey, we arrived in the hipster university town of Cordoba. Here, we learned the importance of being on Argentina time (aka, nothing opens before noon!). We very quickly began to settle into 7 pm coffees and 11 pm dinners.

There wasn't a huge amount 'to do' in Cordoba. So, we enjoyed the slower pace and instead decided to sample all of the best coffee and alfajors in the area. (It's a hard job, but someone has to do it). 2024-10-21 05:16:33 📌 Cordoba, Argentina .. 11 -30% 0 -
📌 Mendoza, Argentina

Days 262 - 266

And just like that, it was time for country number seven, Argentina! What a bucket list country this turned out to be. But not before one of the most beautiful yet coldest border crossings of my life.

Up through the Andes Mountains, in the snow, watching the skiers fly down and the kids building snowmen. The immigration was pretty uneventful, but a flat coach battery meant we were stranded at the mountain top for hours. Not ideal when the temperature is hovering around zero.

Three hours and two choripans later, a magical spare battery was found and we continued our onward journey into Mendoza. I absolutely adored this city! Beautiful parks, friendly people, great food, and most importantly, incredible wine!

We spent a couple of days mooching around the city, and one fantastic day sampling three wineries with new friends - practising Spanish (which gets significantly better after three glasses of red), and sampling the best local produce Mendoza has to offer. 2024-10-21 05:10:03 📌 Mendoza, Argentina .. 15 -4% 0 -

📍 Santiago

After a few nights in the Atacama desert, it was time to return to civilisation and tick off another Capital city! There is so much to do in Santiago (which is lucky because the weather was pretty dreadful during the time we spent there!)

However, my favourite things were wine-tasting Casillero del Diablo and taking a day trip to Valparaiso. 2024-10-09 04:18:04 Days 251 - 261 📍 Sant.. 16 +2% 0 -

📍 Atacama Desert

And it's time for country number six, Chile!

After a long and very cold bus across the border (but nowhere near as stressful as first expected!) and a one-night pitstop in Calama, we picked up our rental truck and headed out into the desert. What a completely magical experience.

Mountains, lagoons, wild donkeys, wild flamingos, crazy off-roading, hikes, stargazing - this place really has it all. Soooo different to anywhere I've ever been (and potentially will ever go?!). The Uyuni salt flats are what most people travel to Bolivia for, and it absolutely did not disappoint!

Wonder of the world 4/7 - Machu Picchu!

What a way to spend the last day of my twenties. Wow, absolutely incredible. It was probably one of the most special days of the trip so far. We took the early train from Ollantaytambo, meeting some great people and enjoying coffee and breakfast.

We spent the morning exploring the ruins and the afternoon at the iconic viewpoint. An incredible bucket list activity ticked off! 2024-08-09 19:06:19 Day 224 📍 Machu Picch.. 28 +79% 0 -
