Today I turn 37, and honestly, I’m sitting here in Dubai trying to process how fast this year flew by. It feels like just yesterday I was hitting “publish” on my first blog post 8 years ago, and now here I am, having somehow managed to write an entire book this past year (still can’t quite believe that happened) 😅

This birthday feels different. Maybe it’s because I’ve spent so much of this year growing without seeking any validation. I forced myself to slow down, to really think about every moment that makes me, me - the big ones, small ones and everything in between.

My mid-30s have largely felt like the era where I’m finally comfortable with not having it all figured out. I used to think that by now I’d have some grand master plan, but honestly? The best parts of my journey – both in travel and in life – have been the detours.

This year taught me that courage isn’t just about fearlessly heading to wild destinations. It’s also about learning to love with the stillness of a soft life, about sharing stories that feel too personal, about admitting that sometimes the girl who loves to be in control still feels lost in her own head (and that’s ok)! ❤️

I’m ever grateful for the people who’ve become home no matter where I am. To my family who worry about my wandering but support it anyway. To the friends who pick up conversations exactly where we left them, whether it’s been 2 weeks or 2 years, and to every reader who travels beside me through this platform, reminding me that our collective curiosity and kindness weave us together across continents.

Here’s to 37 - may it be gentle, may it be bold, and may it cradle every soft‑girl moment I’ve come to cherish. I already know I will be doing life my way, all the way to the end. Love and light! ✨

#1 Best Seller in Illustrated Travel Books on Amazon - and a quiet moment of disbelief ❤️

My debut book Why Not? recently hit the #1 Best Seller in Illustrated Travel Books on Amazon Kindle and featured under Hot New Releases. At one point, it even stood at #2 in Travel Writing.

A quiet little book. A loud little win.
And I don’t really know what to say - except thank you! 🥹

And to be honest, I’m still letting it sink in.
This book didn’t come with marketing muscle or buzz. Just a lot of heart, intention, and the hope that it would find the right people.

This book wasn’t written with a bestseller list in mind. It was written for the quiet travelers. The ones who plan around lunch breaks, holidays, and long weekends. The ones who never wanted to be influencers, just wanderers. Curious. Brave. A little tired, but still dreaming.

To everyone who believed in Why Not? - from curious readers and kind strangers, to the few who said, “this feels like my story too” - this is your win too.

For those still curious about the book:
📚 Why Not? is available worldwide on Kindle & paperback - Link in Bio 👆🏻

Let’s keep asking why not? in travel, in work, in life ♥️

Kalandula Falls, Angola 🇦🇴

The second biggest waterfall on the continent, the sheer size of falls makes the 350km drive west of Luanda worth the effort. You can also hike to the base or clamber over the rocks and pools above the falls to find secret spots.

Just like Pedras Negras, the Kalandula Falls also have two viewpoints offering different views of the falls.

The first viewpoint is located at a hotel that stands directly opposite the falls, offering beautiful views. If you wish to enjoy the falls longer, you can also stay overnight at the hotel like we did. The second viewpoint is a little bit further down the main road, you can take a hike down and this spot offers a closer look at the falls. Completely untouched by crowds.

My kind of place all the way! ♥️

Pedras Negras, Angola 🇦🇴

Named as such as they are unique rock formations made of gigantic black rocks. The rocks are huge, and standing high above the surface, you can actually see them miles before you get close. They are deceptively small from far, but the grandeur of the sight is quite spectacular as you ascend to the top.

Luckily, this is a short trail up on a dirt trail, so park and walk up. Since we visited in March, the fall colors added to the allure of the place 🥹

Make no mistake, this is quite a long drive, I am never one to polish experiences. Get ready for a bumpy ride with terrible road. Since we didn’t plan to drive back for another 2 nights, it was well worth the effort.

ANGOLA 🇦🇴 my 35th African country 🥹

Angola’s a country that you don’t really hear much about on the travel scene. With next to no information available, planning a trip to this little travelled country can be difficult - also why I had to go. Angola’s probably commonly known for the horrific civil war which savaged the country for almost 2 decades between 1975-2002. Branded as a dangerous country, for years travel to Angola was considered unsafe...

But let me also tell you that times are changing. If you dig deep, you’ll be amazed at what Angola has to offer & if, like us, you fancy getting a little off track, Africa’s seventh largest country should definitely be on your radar! 🤍

Our trip was relatively short but memorable with focus on two of the most incredible destinations the country offers.

Before we dive in, some must-have information:
📍 Visa: Indians are now eligible for a visa on arrival

📍 Transportation: the roads are rough and the drives are long. As I always say, choosing local guides in Africa can transform your experience immensely. DM me if you ever need one for Angola!

📍costs in Angola can add up quickly, so be mindful if you are on a budget, from stays to local food, this was definitely on the higher side.

📍 Stays - since our trip focused on the natural wonders, we found the stay with the best possible view (stay tuned for details)

📍 Safety: going a trusted guide makes for a relatively relaxed trip.

Country number 108 - Angola 🇦🇴 😍

You would have heard of Victoria Falls but THIS one is an underrated hidden gem tucked away in the middle of Angola. Welcome to Kalandula falls… and to have this entire falls to ourselves was just the icing on the cake!

I am very behind on my posting, this was a trip we did in March. Lots more to share about short and memorable trip to Angola. Follow along ♥️

Happy June to everyone, this year has flown by. Love and light ✨

Being told you don’t belong - hits harder when you already fought to get there! ❤️

As a married Indian woman traveling alone to strange places, you get used to hearing “Indians don’t usually come here.” “Is your husband okay with this?” “You’re brave… or crazy.”

Sometimes it’s wrapped in curiosity. Other times, it’s suspicion. But every time, it’s a reminder: I’m not the default traveler.

Visa rejections are frustrating, yes. But it’s the quiet moments of judgment - the double takes, the invasive questions, the disbelief; that stay with you longer.
It’s not just about paperwork. It’s about proving your right to be in spaces that weren’t designed with you in mind.

And yet, I keep showing up. Because beyond the questions and the hurdles, there’s connection.
There’s chai with strangers, laughter over language gaps, and a deep, quiet pride in choosing to take up space - fully and freely.

Thank you, indie_press , for believing in this book, this idea, and this small voice! ☺️

When Why Not? was born, there was no grand expectation, just the hope that a few curious souls might ask “why not?” and venture beyond Europe or the familiar Southeast Asia loop. In my opinion, travel doesn’t have to be loud. It doesn’t mean quitting everything. Sometimes, it’s just a series of quiet choices, stitched together with intention and follow-through.

To everyone who picked up Why Not?, shared it, gifted it, or messaged me saying “this feels like my story too”; thank you. You’ve reminded me that stories don’t need to be big to matter. They just need to be honest! 🫶🏽

This book is my love letter to every woman who’s ever been told ‘You can’t.’

Born from my parents’ fierce belief in me, carried by my husband’s quiet strength, and inspired by my grandmother’s gentle wisdom - WHY NOT? is for every woman who dared to want more ❤️

It’s an ode to those who came before us, and a promise to those who’ll come after.

And in just one week… it reached the Top 50 Bestsellers in Tourism & Travel on Amazon India. I am surprised. Humbled. Grateful.

Not because I’m special. But because this story resonates… because we should be done waiting for permission to do life on our terms! 🫶🏽

“What if the places you fear change you forever?” 🥹

To the woman staring at her calendar, thinking “How do I even start?”
You save. Compromise. Say “no” to what drains you.
Chase visas without giving up. Cry in silence. Go anyway!

This journey? Not pretty. Not linear… but mine.
10+ years of 9-5 hustle, relentless planning, and “Indians don’t go there” stares.
I hear you!

My book, WHY NOT? isn’t about numbers. This was about transformation. It’s the unfiltered blueprint to travel deeply, work full-time, and shut down doubt. I never asked for attention. I asked, WHY NOT? and I never stopped asking!

No privilege. Just intentional choices! ♥️

TRAVEL IS PERSONAL. SO IS PURPOSE.

There’s a mindset that needs to change. That “meaningful” travel must be slow. That you shouldn’t go to places that we are not familiar with. That by visiting a country, you’re endorsing everything “wrong” with it.

Here’s what I believe:
🚫 Travel is not activism.
🚫 Travel is not politics.
🤍 Travel is personal & it CAN be powerful!

This is MY way and it might not be yours… but that’s exactly the point ❤️

I didn’t go to Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, or South Sudan to judge or be judged. I went to meet the people behind the headlines, the ones who are still dreaming of freedom, still showing up, still standing tall in places the world forgot.

And let’s be honest: too many people scream outrage without understanding context. Being performatively offended isn’t the same as caring. I believe that going is sometimes the greatest form of support.

🔥 So if you’ve ever asked yourself:
“Why NOT chase a dream everyone doubts?”
“Why NOT start over at 50?”
“Why NOT go somewhere I’m told not to?”
“Why NOT do life on my terms?”

This book is for you too.

My first book, Why Not?, is not just about my travels - it is about owning your story, even when the world says no! 🫶🏽

Join the movement and share your WHY NOT? moments!

Secrets out: I wrote a book! 🙂

It’s called WHY NOT? and it might just be the most personal thing this supremely private girl has ever put out there.

As someone who has always loved long-form storytelling, this book was inevitable. After years of pouring my heart into my blog and watching a beautiful community grow, I knew the next step had to be something more permanent - something that could live on a shelf, in a suitcase, or on someone’s bedside table.

The idea came to me last June in Gabon, while the hubs and I were hiking through a forest - a whole country and trail all to ourselves. I asked, “This is so cool, should I write a book about it?” and found myself quietly replying: Why not? 🤍

This book isn’t about reinventing the wheel. I know there are others who’ve written travel memoirs, others who’ve gone far and wide. But this is *my* truth. My origin story. My messy, meaningful pursuit of freedom - as a married woman with a weak passport, a 9-5 job, and an unrelenting love for the world’s untold corners.

It’s for those of us who didn’t quit our jobs. Who’ve faced visa rejections, stereotypes, and fear. It’s for women from the global south, long left out of the travel narrative. For anyone who’s ever doubted if they were brave enough - and went anyway!

From Afghanistan to Gabon, Syria to Madagascar, Sao Tome to South Sudan - these stories are what I experienced. Not just about where I went, but who I became.

I’ve written this with all my heart - and very little experience as an “author.” So if you find small imperfections, I hope you’ll see them as the fingerprints of a first-time writer finding her voice!

To my family and my partner - thank you. For steadying me when I wavered. To my guides who became family. And to the handful of friends I have made here - thanks for always cheering me on.

Now available on Amazon & Kindle worldwide - link in bio. Your support means the world! 👆🏻

That’s a wrap of Mozambique 😍

One of the greatest treasures of Africa, Mozambique has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. If you think Africa is just safaris, think again. This often overlooked country has SO much to offer. There is a whole other side to traveling in this part of Mozambique that comes with the warmest people, stunning beaches with breathtaking reefs, and amazing (vegetarian) food.

If you want to practice your Portuguese, and lounge on white-sand beaches beside turquoise water that are straight out of a fairytale, Mozambique may just be the place for you.

Stole our hearts. Have I convinced you to add this to your list? 🫶🏽❤️

Things to do in Vilanculous, Mozambique 🇲🇿

One of the best decisions we made was choosing the beautiful Vilanculos Beach Lodge - not just for its stunning location, but because there’s so much to do within the property itself. Whether you’re here to unwind with a margarita in hand or get a little sandy with some adventure, this place has something for everyone! 🙂

Here’s everything we got up to:

🪁 Tried kite surfing for the first time!
The first 30 minutes are complimentary, and trust me, you’ll want more. The instructor was fantastic. I may have face-planted into the water a dozen times, but it was epic fun!

🌱 Ate the best vegan/veggie food, three times a day
And yes, always with a view!

😌 Lounged by the infinity pool. Pure bliss. Enough said.

🤍 Volunteered at the local orphanage
A truly heartwarming experience. Just a little of your time means so much to the kids there.

☮️ Got a coconut oil massage at the spa
After a day in the tropical heat, this was the ultimate reset. Felt like royalty!

Beach trips become truly unforgettable when you pick the right place—and this one ticked all the boxes!

Volunteering with horses in Mozambique 🇲🇿

In the early 2000s, Pat and Mandy were forced across the border in Mozambique with 104 horses rescued from farms. With a steely determination, they established Mozambique Horse Safari in 2006. Now, people can volunteer, ride horses or just spend their time and efforts understanding the mission of this place 🤍

Since this is family run, your support goes a long way… there is a strong sense of personal pride taken here to ensure every interaction with the horses is thoughtful and safe. If you enjoy cantering along white sand beaches, swimming in blue seas, and the love the warm hospitality of island life, then look no further than this experience when in Vilanculous 🤗

There’s a kind of magic in places the world overlooks.
For years, I’ve wandered through the wild corners of Central Asia - where fire burns in the middle of the desert, where eagles still hunt with humans, where the silence of the mountains tells stories louder than words.
And now… I’m opening that chapter to you! 🙂

#UntoldCentralAsia is here — a travel series I’ve poured my soul into, in collaboration with jrnyonworld

These are journeys shaped by curiosity, courage, and connection. Not just where to go, but how to see.

Bazaruto Archipelago, Mozambique 🙂

Needless to say, this place was the reason for our visit to the country and it didn’t disappoint. These are a remote cluster of islands located in Southern Mozambique. This region is known for its incredible marine life and stunning untouched beaches.

The highlight, was our scuba dive in the two mile reef, which shows off this country’s Indian Ocean beauty in its most glorious light. Since 1971, much of the archipelago has been protected as a national park, which has resulted in rich marine populations that you can’t miss out on seeing - one of the best corals we have seen in a while, the colors just came alive.

You can easily book multiple day trips from any of the hotels you’re staying in. You can spend all day diving, dining and just kicking back before sailing back to the mainland Vilankulo. This was one of the highlights of our trip and we absolutely LOVED it ❤️

Vilanculos Beach Lodge, Mozambique 🇲🇿 😍

It’s not very often that I rave about the places we stay at, but the beach lodge we chose for our trip to Mozambique blew us away. It turned out to be one of the most value-for-money beach stays we’ve ever had. Gorgeous ocean views, cozy bungalows, and the kind of peaceful energy that just resets your soul! 🤍

What really stood out? How sustainable and thoughtfully designed everything was.

– The vegan and vegetarian food was incredible (yeah, they had a whole menu just for us)– fresh, flavorful, and super creative! 🍃
- One of the most special sunrises we have seen since our trip to Maldives in 2020. Don’t miss this!
– The staff were absolute gems - so warm, helpful, and genuinely passionate about what they do!
- plenty of high adrenaline activities in-house to keep you busy for weeks (which I will talk about on another post)

The lodge runs on green practices:
• the owner told me that they use eco-friendly sprays that keeps the mosquitoes at bay but keeps the butterflies coming back!
• smart architecture that keeps rooms cool

It’s the kind of place where you feel relaxed and proud of the way you’re traveling. If you’re looking for an eco-friendly beach lodge that combines comfort, sustainability, and heart - this one’s a gem.

We keep dreaming of the day we will be back there & that almost never happens with us on a beach vacay. That’s how good it was - 10/10 from me! 💫

Country 107 - Vilankulo, Mozambique 🇲🇿

When we set out to travel to this part of Mozambique we were unsure of what was in store, having never been big fans of beach vacations. However, in just a few days, it turned out to be one of the best island vacations we have done in Africa!

As such, this hidden coastal gem has remained delightfully free of tourist crowds, and that was the main reasons I loved it. The other highlight, was our scuba dive in the Bazaruto Archipelago, which shows off this country’s Indian Ocean beauty in its most glorious light. Since 1971, much of the archipelago has been protected as a national park, which has resulted in rich marine populations that you can’t miss out on seeing ♥️

A month later, every part of this trip still stands out vividly in my heart, that is the mark of a great destination. Lots more details and stories over the next week. Follow along!

Good to know:
📌 For Indian passport holders, a visa is necessary to enter but you can apply for an e-visa online (it is an expensive visa!!)
📌 Easy connections via South Africa, fly directly to Vilankulo
📌 there is civil unrest in Maputo, but this part of the country was peaceful, we had no issues!

Wrapping up the last few days of our trip to Eswatini 🇸🇿

📌 Maloltja Nature Reserve
Eswatini’s first and only treetop canopy tour is located in the ruggedly picturesque Malolotja Nature Reserve. The Komati River cuts through a deep gorge, creating waterfalls and rapids along the way. A series of zipline, elevated wooden platforms, wooden slides and a 50m-long suspension bridge skim across the forest canopy.
Similar to the ones we did in Nicaragua and we loved every minute! 😍

📌 Hike up Sibebe Rock, the world’s second largest monolith (single piece of rock) behind Australia’s Uluru. Hulking over the surrounding countryside, it is also the world’s largest granite dome rock. The 1,488m three-billion-year-old volcanic slab is at its best shortly after it rains as the wet rock glistens and glints silver while streams of running water pour over the rock face.

📌 The Mantenga cultural village
The only touristy location in all of Eswatini, there were still just a handful of travelers from Germany. Much like in Lesotho, this little village gives a holistic approach of traditional lives and customs of Eswatini (yes, you even get to shake a leg with the passionate performers)! ❤️

Will be taking a break before I share glimpses of country 107… thanks for following along, love and light 💫

MLILWANE NATIONAL PARK, Eswatini 🇸🇿

As two people who have done plenty of Safaris and always looking for more opportunities to see wildlife in their natural habitat, the open and lush wooded surroundings of Mlilwane make for a very different safari experience. The absence of big games means we are free to explore the well-maintained network of walking trails and dirt tracks.

Wildebeest, Nyala, Zebra, Pumba, Impalas and blesbok are all spotted easily. Game viewing took on a whole new level of wow as biked for hours past wild lush mountains on this cloudy day. This is one of the few parks in Southern Africa that allows for a biking Safari & I knew I couldn’t pass up the chance to experience it ❤️

It was just the perfect way to disconnect and enjoy being so close to these beautiful animals. 10/10 recommended 💫

Country number 106 - Eswatini 🇸🇿

The kingdom of eSwatini boasts some spectacular mountain views, lush green valleys, and cultural richness.

eSwatini (formerly Swaziland) is one of Africa’s smallest nations, nestled within South Africa and steeped in tradition. When we visited the neighboring Lesotho in 2022,we didn’t get the chance to go here due to the visa process but this time we made it and it certainly exceeded our expectation! 🥹❤️

From dancing with the tribes, to riding our mountain bikes in one of the few safari parks where you can bike to get close to animals, to the 3 hour canopy zipline through the forests of Maloltja, the trip was packed with adventure & incredible untapped beauty!

Good to know:
📌 Visa: Indian passport holders need an embassy visa, if you are in Dubai, then you can get it done in the capital for aed 40
📌 Flights: easy connections via Johannesburg
📌 Hotels: lots of beautiful stays in the country, we stayed in Hilton and Mantenga Forest Lodge

Some moments in life remind you how far you’ve come, and this was one of them! ☺️🧿

I had the incredible opportunity to be on 89.4 Tamil FM with RJ Kirthana yesterday morning, sharing my journey with my fellow Tamizh makkal in UAE - how this little girl with an Indian passport and a 9-5 job is doing life her way, many tips, and many stories were shared ♥️

My constant hope is that my journey inspires more people to not just dream big to travel far, but to also persevere to make those dreams a reality - one step, one trip at a time. You have to follow through relentlessly!

A HUGE thank you to 89.4 Tamil FM for giving me this platform to connect with my people, and to every single one of you who has supported me along the way, especially my incredible family for their unwavering understanding and faith in my journey. Forever humbled and grateful for this life that has taught me that it is ok to be afraid and vulnerable as long as you don’t let that define your person! 💫

Like Raghuvaran sir says in the Mudhalvan padam climax “that was a good interview” - for those of you have never heard me speak in tamizh, swipe 👉🏽

1. go where the maps whisper, not scream. War zones. Closed borders. Islands that don’t Google well. I chase curiosity, not clout. The world’s “scary” places? They’ve gifted me humanity’s rawest, brightest moments.

2. Society’s timelines are meaningless. No white picket fences. No “shoulds.” Volcanic sunrises in Congo, starlit Sahara silence, and stories that’d make my heart flutter. I decided this life was not a checklist - it’s a *choose-your-own-disaster* novel, and I’m here for the plot twists.

3. I don’t fit in automatically, don’t enjoy socializing & love being alone a whole lot. Just me & my thoughts!

3. I love having a job that pays for our travels. Visa applications every month. Security clearances that take weeks. I push through because I know what I want. I’ve worked or studied for 15 years and have often considered a sabbatical. But let me be clear - I’m not “finding myself. I’ve always known what I love and have been relentless in chasing that dream. I choose a steady income to fuel my passion, fight bureaucracy harder, and out-stubborn every border in my way. Travel is a privilege but also about stubbornness with a side of chutzpah.

4. My moments of vulnerability made me stronger. There are months of deliberation before choosing solo journeys as an Indian woman - to Afghanistan, South Sudan, Iran, Libya, Syria. But what did I get for it? Sipping chai in Syria, listening to stories of a bygone era. Hitchhiking across Honduras with a trucker named Jesús. Driving with armed guards in Somaliland like it’s just another rush hour.

5. I will always count countries!
Every stamp? EARNED. Every security clearance? A SAGA. I don’t do sponsored trips and take no handouts. My travel fund? Built on overtime weekends and endless energy. No shortcuts - just stubborn joy. You bet I will be counting every stamp! 🫠

6. I don’t enjoy “been there done that” destinations. Forget Iceland and Rome selfies for just a minute. Try crossing South Sudan’s Nile with cattle herders. Hiking up Algeria’s Hoggar Mountains. Dancing with Madagascar’s Lemurs. Travel isn’t *pretty*—it’s *alive*.

Comfort zones are BASIC. Remember to lose yours! ✌🏽 2025-02-28 09:21:57 .. 0 -100% 256 +24%
Bois Cheri Tea Factory, Grand Bassin Temples & Alexandra Falls, Mauritius 🇲🇺

From sipping fresh brews at the oldest tea plantation on the island to soaking in the serenity of Grand Bassin, a sacred Hindu lake surrounded by towering deities - it was fun escaping to the places that are under the radar. We wrapped up the day with a scenic hike to Alexandra Falls, where lush greenery and misty cascades made for the perfect quiet escape! 🙂

The best part? No crowds, just pure bliss!

Bras D’eau National Park in the north of Mauritius 🇲🇺

As a couple who goes to beach destinations to hike, I stumbled on to this deserted national park while I was researching off beat things to do on the island. I was immensely curious because I had never heard of the place before. I was slightly disappointed with the lack of information I received but thrilled that I had discovered a new place in Mauritius! 🫶🏽

This is a nature walk that takes you through the calm and peaceful atmosphere of a forest. The park is home to historic 400-year-old ruins, including the remains of a sugar mill and lime kiln which were built by the French during the colonization of Mauritius.

We learned about the two main trails in the park, the first trail is known as the “Coq des Bois Trail” is a direct trail through the forest which ends at the Mares Chevrettes. It is a 2.5km trail. The second, the “Coq de Bois Loop” is an extension of the first trail by 3.5km that ends at a beach.

The entire forest trail was peaceful and serene, with only the sounds of birds and the crunching of footsteps upon leaves breaking the silence.

Highly recommended if you are looking to take a break from chilling at the beach! 🫠
