(new) bagel spot in Boston 🥯✨ my favorite bagel spot is now OPEN in Southie with a storefront!! why is it my fav? likely because it’s local and small biz and that’s where I’d rather put my money towards BUT ALSO because they’re actually very good got the Classic Lox and Mother’s Garden for the haul today, with a rosemary sea salt and cheddar bagel to take home + scallion schmear (they ran out of my fav dill pickle one <//3) they are still figuring out the logistics and routine so it’s currently a soft opening today and tomorrow (Friday October 10)! Caribbean food>>>> and here’s where you can get it in Boston 🏝️ *pls excuse typo 😭* so I actually went here when it was Auntie Vie’s (and I included them in my alphabet cuisine series for C- Caribbean Cuisine!) but they changed owners and now it’s Islands Cuisine. same location in Dorchester (excuse another error in the slides, it’s at the cusp of Roxbury but still Dorchester!) when you want something FILLING and hearty, this is the place you need to go to. all combo plates come in a hefty portion and can honestly last you at least two meals (maybe even three). last time I got the jerk chicken and curry goat, this time I got curry goat and tried the oxtail! soooo good each plate comes with two sides! I love mac and cheese but didn’t mean to double order it, they just ran out of what I wanted because I went closer to closing time! still thankful nonetheless that they still had plenty of food. are these the best gyros in the Boston?? 🇬🇷 next up in the alphabet cuisine series: G for Greek cuisine! doing this series to try cuisines I’ve never tried before or re-introduce myself to a cuisine and try a spot that I haven’t tried yet! so I found my way to Roslindale to try Effie’s Kitchen, a small three table restaurant that has incredible and no fuss Greek food. heard the gyros are amazing here so my main mission was to try that! everything was made to order (minus the dessert) so you’re getting things HOT ended up ordering: - Spanakopita aka spinach pie ($6) - Village Salad ($13.50) - Avgolemono aka Greek Chicken Soup ($6) seasonal!! - Gyro aka marinated pork served on a pita ($11.50) - Chicken Souvlaki dinner plate ($17.50) - Tzatziki side sauce ($1.50) - Baklava ($3.75) I don’t care to order gyros out because the best I had was in fact in Greece 😭 so I had pretty high expectations for this one and I’m glad the meat wasn’t dry and it came fully loaded with meat and served on the warmest pita, with the perfect ratio of pickled veggies as you bite into the gyro. HONESTLY best gyro I’ve had in Boston this is where the side tzatziki was crucial because I love sauce and liked the freedom of adding more into the gyro, but also it was essential for the side pita that came with the rice plate. my go-to dishes at the most authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Boston✨ if you’re craving Vietnamese food and want to try more things other than beef pho or banh mi, this post is for you 🫶🏼 I’ve gone here since they opened and am constantly surprised by what they bring to the table. the owner takes huge inspiration from Vietnam and incorporates all of his knowledge to his restaurant here in Dorchester, so many of the dishes you see at gao_vietnamesekitchen are 100% authentic and not messing up traditional recipes with Vietnamese dishes, almost everything comes with some type of sauce to elevate the flavors. as a certified sauce girly this is soooo important to me. I also love salt and the Vietnamese beef stew has a chili salt for you to dip the meat into (it’s really good and gives it another flavor profile) 🥬 there’s also always A TON of veggies to eat your food with. and when I say a lot, I mean a lotttt. one of my favorite bakeries just a bit outside of Boston! I’ve shared many times how much I looovvveeee nouvebakery in Lexington 🥐 every time I’m in the area, I stop by to get AT LEAST a few pastries. if you’ve never tried the McDonald’s Japan shrimp burger, I’d put this spot high on your bucket list!! you may know cafeweekendboston for their brunch and croffles, but did you know they also serve dinner? I’ve eaten dinner a handful of times there, but from my last visit, I can see that they’ve updated and improved some dishes and now it tastes even better than when I had it the first time 😭 I am obsessed with their shrimp burger 🍔🍤 like no where does it like they do….it’s a nice and plump shrimp burger with plenty of their homemade tartar sauce and what I believe is their other special sauce. this is a must-order for me their Korean-style bulgogi burger is also a hit and they have really yummy pastas, which imo is also super underrated! new-ish bagel spot in town! 🥯 just opened in the summer parkbagelry from the team behind forgebakingco blocsomerville and diesel_cafe comes the newest bagel spot on the block. and this time, you’ve got sourdough bagels with a NY + Montreal-esque style twist (according to an article I read bc I am no bagel expert) I think the best way to describe the bagels are that it’s dense and chewy with a smaller hole, so it holds well with whatever you add in it! I also appreciate that it’s easy to bite into without everything falling out big fan of a classic lox, but I came here solely to try the miso cream cheese and it did not disappoint! I will say it’s quite umami like super flavorful so if you were to choose a bagel to get it with, I’d go for the garlic bagel, poppy, or even jalapeño cheddar. ALSO lowkey add sriracha on it….they have a bottle of (real) sriracha and it tasted really good with it imo and helps give it another flavor profile. heyshybird’s bar burger lived up to the hype 🍔🍸 yes they are known for chicken but they make a pretty great burger too. it’s a butchers blend patty on a fluffy pepper brioche bun with grilled onions, white cheddar, steak sauce, and paired with steak fries and house aioli!!!! very appreciative of the aioli because as a lover of sauce and mayo I pretty much used it all lol and I always need something pickled on the side my go-to drink here is the “Fishing with Dynamite” which is super refreshing- vodka, raspberry, lemon, and sparkling wine. perfect drink with the burgie! it is a bar burger so you can only get it by the bar. FIVE breakfasts around Boston I’d willingly wake up early for 🥪🍳🥓 literally I have woken up quite early for these (mostly to avoid the busy rush and because I’ll always wake up for good food) 1) not only does the_littlebluebakery make THE BEST coffee but her bfast sandwiches and burritos are stellar. I especially love the garlic aoili between each and every bite. make sure to ask for the hot sauce! 2) sunnygirl_northend just look at the oozing yolk….all over the softest English muffins ever. I kept seeing this spot on social media so I had to try it myself and can confirm it is so good and a reason is definitely because of those English muffins 😂 3) shirleyeatmoresunshine the first bite of this bfast sandwich had me in a chokehold. soft cheesy focaccia sandwiching a layer of (chipotle) aioli, local smokehouse bacon, oil baked egg, and Cabot cheddar cheese. chef’s kiss!! 4) verveinecafe this biscuit was something else, especially with the chili jam. immediate must order for me, and they have so many fun pastries. oh and it’s all gluten free?? :o 5) would it be an appreciation post if I didn’t include vinalbakery LOL no seriously I love them so much but they have every reason to win me over especially with their variety of sandwiches (breakfast and lunch!). PART 3 of cafes that are worth the troop from Boston ☕️✨ this spot in Watertown serves a really good black sesame latte and that alone makes it worth it for me, but it also is the cutest spot with a ton of little nooks and trinkets, and yummy baked goodies (that vary every day + season!) osomecafe100 initially when I decided to come here, I knew I needed to get a matcha drink. I’ve been a big fan of the matcha + coconut water combo so I got their version of that (which actually comes with a splash of coconut milk and condensed milk apparently). pretty refreshing if you don’t want a heavy drink, but they have other options like their matcha tiramisu latte if you want something sweeter! PART 2 of searching for my favorite chocolate chip cookie around Boston!! and a few of these were from your recs + personal favs 🍪 Boston area = Boston + surrounding cities and I know this is Cambridge heavy so don’t come for me LOL elmendorfbaking ($3) love the use of different chunks of chocolate inside including bigger chunks and smaller chocolate chips. soft and chewy (and wrinkly my fav)!! need to go back and try other baked goodies because they all sounded incred bomdough_ ($6) gigantic cookie if you’re into that! ask them to heat it up for you and it’s literally so gooey and warm. it’s loaded with chocolate chips, thick but of course super soft. an amazing Brazilian bakery cafe lasaisonbakery ($3.50) smaller than I expected it to be but the brown butter 🤎🧈>>>> I love the chunks of chocolate in here and it’s salted which I love. another soft one! iykyk, this is my favorite spot for sushi bowls and one of my top-ordered spots in Boston 🍣🍚 I wouldn’t call this a hidden gem because it’s poppinnnn there, but in case you don’t know where torajapaneserestaurant is, it’s underground in one of Chinatown’s most bustling streets serving some of the freshest sushi bowls in the area (and at a good price!) new bakery in Boston!!!! and here to confirm it is SO worth the anticipation 🥐✨ elephantinebakery just opened today (my friend and I were first in line 🤭) and I’m so glad we’re welcoming them to the neighborhood. I’ve been to their Portsmouth location before and it’s so charming and quaint, but I’m happy the Boston location is even bigger!! we went a little crazy and got a lot to try (duh) but my favorites were the double chocolate croissant and carrot cake! for the bigger dishes, definitely go for the Griddled Pecan Banana Bread (it has the most incredible dates) and you NEED the Egg Simit (Elephantine Egg Sandwich). the Turkish bagel was soft and chewy and beet pistachio spread really pulled it all together for me. not having to fight for my life while eating a hard bagel sandwich is a plus 😭 also got a hot cardamom latte and the flavor really stands out. after going to Japan and trying oh so many matcha drinks, my favorite has been from these three places in Vietnam 🍵 yes, in order to make these drinks, the matcha was sourced from Japan (obviously!!), but what I mean by what I said is that these Vietnamese cafes sweetened all my drinks perfectly without taking away from the flavor from the matcha or overly flavoring it three different spots, three different cities. deets below: 📍the.inner.hoian in Hoi An this spot is literally a hidden oasis hence the name, but I was shocked at how incredible the matcha was. LOOK AT THE GREEN.
