A long, long journey — worth every single step.

Back then, I had no idea that this passion, consistency, and love for Indian culture would one day become a turning point for Indian cuisine in the Western world.

When that moment came, my first thought was of her. I had kept my promise.

My GrandMa would remind me that we don’t create these dishes, we inherit them along with the craft to cook. She would say—cooking, history, music, instruments, spices, and mythology are all inheritances, and it is our duty to honor those who contributed to connect generations through the crafts.

At Bungalow, we believe pickles are more than just accompaniments — they are vessels of memory, heritage, and love. With every jar, we hope to preserve not just flavors, but also the stories behind them.

As part of this new series, each guest will be served a unique pickle alongside their main course — a recipe that changes with every contributing guest chef or family storyteller.

We begin this journey with Mysha’s grandmother, Nargis Ali.

Born into a Zamindar family in Nagram, a village near Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Nargis ji spent her career in government service. After retiring, she finally found the time to nurture her lifelong passion for cooking. A true Virgo at heart — meticulous, discerning, and always striving for perfection — she poured heritage and heart into every creation.

Her recipe, a Lemon–Chili Pickle with roasted carom seeds and cumin, will be the first in our series.

Today we honor centuries old Kashmiri festival “Pann”, or the sacred thread, once tied to cotton harvests and the worship of goddesses Vibha and Garbha. 

Families make sweet Roths, offered first to the deity, before sharing them as tokens of prosperity.

Falling during the time of Ganesh Chaturthi—Pann reminds us that devotion weaves abundance, and tradition sustains grace.

Today at Bungalow, we keep this tapestry alive—with lotus flowers, and sweets roths that carry Kashmir’s agrarian soul into our celebrations.

We will also be sharing wooden shikaras (limited) and brass incense holders with Ganesha.
