![Fish & chips - crispy on the outside, soft on the inside - it’s a tasty British classic that I love. But I’ve always felt like something was missing.
Being originally from Korea, I always crave kimchi or some kind of spicy/chilli sauce whenever I have fish & chips. I often end up needing Korean ramyun or kimchi with rice afterward!
So this time, I made kimchi tartar sauce, and it turned out so delicious - it really takes fish & chips to the next level.
Koreans love kimchi so much that there’s even a famous song that every Korean (well, at least my generation 😄) knows:
🎶 “What if there was no kimchi in this world? How could I enjoy any meal? I cannot live without kimchi.” 🎶
And it’s true! Especially when the kimchi tastes as good as bibigo Kimchi 😋 Kimchi goes with everything - Koreans eat steak with kimchi, even pasta with kimchi - and it totally works!
I also added a dollop of one of the many delicious bibigo Jang sauces, the Hot Jang, into the tartar sauce.
As a Korean + British mixed-culture couple, this combo is perfect for my husband and me! And my British husband, who normally insists on having fish & chips the classic way, couldn’t stop eating this kimchi tartar sauce 😄

I love Maltesers - but they didn’t last long! My niece, Jiwoo had them all before we even finished filming 😄
I brought Celebrations to Korea because Jiwoo loved them when she visited two years ago. Didn’t expect my whole family to finish them so quickly! You just keep picking one by one… and suddenly they’re all gone 😅
I have noticed in Britain, a few of the Bounty are always left when everything else is gone. I’m yet to meet anyone who says, “Ooohhh, my favourite in Celebrations is Bounty!” 😂🍫

![A very curious behaviour. Just… why? A little inconsiderate to use the public magazine as a shoe rack, I think 😒.
I always wipe all the surfaces when I get on the plane. I was told from an air hostess that you don’t know what has happened on the plane before you and that it can’t be cleaned as thoroughly as you think.

![Since I lived in Britain for over 20 years now as a Korean, sometimes I don’t just leave the house with keys, phone, wallet when we go out for British food. Oh no… we leave with keys, phone, wallet… and a pocket-sized stash of sauces! Gochujang, ssamjang. Just in case.
I love British gravy and condiments but sometimes it’s not enough for me and I just need the kick to take the tasty British food flavours to the next level.
That’s why I’m so excited to be working with bibigo. As you might know already (if you watched my first BBQ reel with bibigo 😉) bibigo is a much-loved food brand in Korea, and my mum always recommends it to me. She was so excited when she found out I’d be working with them, and I’m really happy I can share that with you.
Now, a quick Korean food lesson: “jang” means paste sauce. Gochujang = spicy, ssamjang = salty/umami, and both = absolute life essentials. But bibigo went and made them even easier, turning them into squeezy dipping sauces. Isn’t it genius? You can now squirt spicy, umami goodness on literally anything. Chips? Yes! Pizza? Absolutely! Even a traditional British roast - because who says Yorkshire puddings can’t handle a bit of heat?
My personal fave is Hotjang - a fiery mix of spice with a lovely hint of sweetness. My British husband now squeezes it on everything… 😄
These great sauces are now available at Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Amazon, or your local Korean/Asian supermarket.

![I love a proper British afternoon tea — done right and classy. It’s a ritual for me and one of my favourite things about Britain.
But despite years of afternoon tea experience, I still forget the strainer every single time. Just not used to it using it every time 😄

![✨ When I first came to Britain, I was surprised at how different BBQs were - always outdoors on a sunny(ish) weekend, with simple seasoning or dry rubs, not much home-made marinade, fewer side dishes, and often eaten standing around!
In Korea, BBQ is usually indoors and sociable in the evenings rather than daytime. You cook your own meat just how you like it (though often there’s a “designated griller,” a bit like British BBQ 😄). There are always lots of side dishes and pickled things to brighten the flavours of the meat.
I like both styles - but even better is combining the two!
bibigo is a much-loved food brand in Korea and my mum’s favourite too! When I told her that I would be working with bibigo, she was over the moon, and I am so excited to share it all with you! 🥰
These bibigo marinades can be used with any meats or veggies - perfect with BBQ, but also for everyday stir-fry meals. I was already a big fan of bibigo products, and honestly, the marinades taste so authentic, just like real Korean homemade food and street food. And the bibigo sesame oil is my favourite - so rich and smooth, it makes every flavour deeper.
I also made a quick and easy Korean cucumber kimchi with bibigo gochujang:
🥒 ½ cucumber, sliced
🥄 2 tbsp bibigo gochujang
🥄 1 tbsp sugar
🥄 2 tbsp apple vinegar
✨ a few drops of bibigo sesame oil
So simple, yet so tasty!

![My husband is British, born and raised in the UK, and I am Korean (and also a British citizen), born and raised in South Korea.
Around 360 days a year, we eat the same food together - I love British food and my husband loves Korean food too! We love food in general and enjoy a variety of dishes from around the world, but sometimes we crave our own country’s soul food. That’s when we sit together, enjoying each other’s company and our own comfort meals from our childhoods.

![Growing up, Koreans were told that if rain falls on your head, you’ll lose your hair and also you’ll catch a cold 😄.
So I often find myself as the only person on the street opening an umbrella - or the very first to open it. One drop is enough for me.
Meanwhile, British people grew up being told, “You’re not made of sugar - your skin is waterproof” 😂.
It’s so different, and I love noticing these little cultural differences. I’ve adapted to many aspects of British life while living in Britain, but I don’t think I’ll ever change this one! Just can’t help it 😂

![Sharing is caring, I’m just saying 🤷🏻♀️
Fortunately, my husband is a sharer and we bond over food a lot (so it’s not him in the video, he is just playing a role of ‘western friend’ 😂). I honestly find it harder to feel close with someone when they don’t share food - you can’t take the Korean out of a Korean person 😂
I get that it depends on the food - with European/western meals, one dish per person is often more natural. And I do that too depending on food. But recently I went to a sushi restaurant and saw three people with a plate each, not sharing at all. Or when you’re at a Chinese restaurant with a group and someone orders a noodle dish or one dish just for themselves... I was so taken aback 😅
Nothing wrong with it - people do what works for them! It just doesn’t sit quite right with me, personally. But hey, everyone’s different! 😅

![When I first came to Britain, I was so shocked to see the scene of British people not using umbrellas in the rain. And I’m talking about constant rain - I was living in Manchester then, after all.
Whenever I put up an umbrella, my British friends would look at me and chuckle, like they were watching a child innocently unwrapping a sweet 😂.
Their proud reply when I offered space under my umbrella? “Nah, I don’t need it,” - and then they’d ruffle their hair, now soaked from the rain.
It’s a very British thing. And you know what? It looked cool to me - that wet look, the big smile on their face, just minding their own business, rain or shine.
As a Korean, coming from a place with more predictable weather, we often put things off over the tiniest bit of rain - whether it’s going somewhere or doing something. Because if you wait a day, you can probably enjoy it in sunny weather.
But I realised that in Britain, if you wait for nice dry weather, you might miss an entire month of doing things. So if you can’t change it, you embrace it!
And while I’m still not fully used to it myself even after living here for 20 years, I’ve grown really fond of this British attitude towards rain.
