- ❗ NEW REVIEW ❗ OK guys, gals and non binary pals, it's time we had a chat. I've always touted that Vancouver is a global destination for coffee. Sure, we have Melbourne and Portland at the top of the list. But slowly and steadily we've been creating a coffee culture here that firmly has 'best coffee city' in it's sights. So when nemesis.coffee opened their new GNW location we were all curious as to what it would actually be like. Would this just be another great café to add to our growing repertoire of amazing places to drink coffee? NOPE. Nemesis GNW is, and there's no other way to describe this, probably one of the most unique, ground breaking and high quality coffee shops on the planet right now. In fact, I'd guess that it might be THE best on the planet. It starts with the absolutely incomprehensible (in a good way) design of the building, to the minor details such as how all the cuts in the concrete and bar line up to the millimeter. Their in house direct to farm only coffee program has bought forward coffees from regions that otherwise don't get much focus. The food program starts at their Dope bakery and ends at their 'Word' fine dining evenings. They have an army of highly trained staff and a trio of bathrooms with hip hop pumped into them. This place is hard to describe but it's a truly magical experience. And just like that, they nail the highest score I've ever given on the blog. Link to the review is in my bio, but you really shouldn't read it. Instead you should head to 555 Great Northern Way and bask in the best coffee shop experience I've ever had. I keep saying this and I'll say it again... Portland, we're coming for you... #VancouverCoffeeSnob #vancitycoffee #vancouvercoffeeculture #vancouvercoffee #vancouver #vancouvercoffeescene #vancouvercoffeeshop #yvr #vancouvercafe #vancity #yvrcoffee #coffeevancouver #coffeelover #vancoffee #vancouvercoffeehouse #vancouvercoffeeshops #vancouvercoffeeroaster #coffeeinvancouver #vancouverbc
- ☕ BEST NEW COFFEE SHOP OF 2021 ☕ In case you missed THE biggest event of the year, last December was the Snobby Awards. The winner of the "Best New Coffee Shop" award was smokingguncoffee. Honestly, I probably should have posted about them sooner but I was waiting until these sexy mofos joined getsiply... which they did this week (link to app in bio)! Smoking Gun is in the heart of #Chilliwack, which obviously means you need to book a flight to get there, but once you do, it's FUCKING AWESOME. First off it's a really comfortable venue. Loads of seating, a nice in-out flow, the large windows are perfect for people watching and there are some outdoor seats for those of you with dogs. It's been an absolute joy to watch head roaster and owner, Brandon, go from hot knifing coffee beans at home in a Behmor to opening a full blown roastery. All the drinks are excellent. From bright Africans to bold and chunky Colombians. A particular highlight was their Yirg on nitro. Food wise you've got a small selection of sweet eats and an absolute banger of a breakfast sando. The staff are all immensely friendly and genuinely seem to love working there. I mean they're under the supervision of the aforementioned Brandon and that bugger is one of the most welcoming and warm people in the coffee industry, so it's no surprise it's rubbed off on the staff. One of the most hilarious things about Smoking Gun right now is the mysterious case of the bathroom bandit. You see, someone is stealing their soap. So they had to chain it up. THEN SOMEONE STOLE IT AGAIN. Anyway... This place is such a great place to drink coffee and even though they're obnoxiously far away from most soft skinned Vancouverites, it's well worth the treck. Who am I kidding - you'll all probably live in Chilliwack soon because a 1 bed DT apartment is probably going to hit $3000 a month soon. #VancouverCoffeeSnob #vancitycoffee #vancouvercoffeeculture #vancouvercoffee #vancouver #vancouvercoffeescene #vancouvercoffeeshop #yvr #vancouvercafe #vancity #yvrcoffee #coffeevancouver #coffeelover #vancoffee #vancouvercoffeehouse #vancouvercoffeeshops #vancouvercoffeeroaster #coffeeinvancouver #vancouverbc
- Three years ago I was featured on TV wearing a paper bag on my head. Then it got picked up on the national evening news... Twice. Then it got picked up on the national morning news... Twice. Then the radio stations picked it up. Then my friends in the UK heard about it. This was by far the most ridiculous shit that I've ever done in my whole entire life and quite honestly I can't believe that this even happened. The story goes like this: I posted on Reddit about my app and a reporter reached out about featuring me on TV about it. Isabella was a legend and still is a legend for this. I explained that I was an anonymous coffee shop reviewer and the only way that I could really do this is to disguise myself. So I suggested cutting two holes in a brown paper bag and using that as my disguise. I obviously thought that I would never hear back from her and/or she would tell me to fuck off. It took a while but she decided that it was worth pitching to the news station and they loved the idea. Clearly they were all hammered on a Friday afternoon or something like that. Anyway I called up Dusty at Agro he let me come in and use his shop to film. We were left with this moment of history. And I haven't taken the bag off since...
