☀️Step 1: Notice the joy.
Before I even get out of bed, I look around and find one thing that makes me smile--a soft sunrise, my sleeping pup, the feel of linen sheets. It's a reminder that beauty is always present, even in the small things.

🧘Step 2: Set an intention.

My antidote for anxiety?

A walk in the woods. 
Sometimes I'll listen to a podcast (Simon Sinek my current fave) but often I prefer no phone. No music. Just me, the trees and my breath. 

The world feels so noisy right now. It makes my heart hurt and my nervous system is on high alert. I'm distracted and I find myself holding my breath without even realizing it. 

So I go where I can hear myself again. To the trail. To the quiet. Nature softens the sharp edges of my worry. The rustle of the leaves, the rhythm of my steps, the stillness between birdsong--this is my reset button. My nervous system exhales. My heart slows down. 

Right now, for me, it's the woods. But maybe for you it's the beach, a favorite trail or city park. It doesn't matter where---what matters is that you go. Your soul knows where to find stillness. Go and breathe deeply again.

If you are ready to get lean, strong and toned then you need to dial in your habits, especially around food and exercise. And then be consistent! Consistency beats intensity and perfection every time. 

Here's 5 of my favorite simple but effective tips I use with my clients. 

1. ✏️Draw your line in the sand. Stop negotiating with habits that keep you small. Choose discipline over the quick fix. Choose workouts over scrolling. Choose meals that nourish over ones that numb. Draw the line. Step across. Become who you know you're meant to be. 

2. Create a calorie deficit. There's no getting around this. If you want to lose weight, it's the most important piece. Find an online calculator to get your number. 

3. 🏋️‍♀️strength train 3-6x per week. You can do this at home with my Momentum program and some dumbbells or head to the gym if you like the energy. Once you get going, this will become your favorite thing. 2025-06-17 04:28:16 .. 31 -59% 2 -76%
You are the captain of your ship. Your health and fitness should be a priority. I know the world is crazy and you have a lot on your plate. But.. are you more or less help if you are strong, well rested with a regulated nervous system.

I love the valslide curtesy lunge because it targets the glute medius on the stationary leg and the adductors on the sliding leg. Plus it's smoother and requires less balance than a traditional Curtsey lunge. 

Here's how you do it:
1. Put the ball of your foot in the middle of the Valslide. If you are too far forward, it acts as a break. I see so many people with the wrong foot position.

2. Slide the Valslide leg back and behind the front leg, allowing front knee to bend. You should look like you are b forming a curtsy. 

3. Keep your hips and shoulders forward the whole time. Now, slide the Valslide back to starting position as you stand all the way up.

4. Repeat until you complete 10-12 reps and then switch sides. 

5. It's okay to have a chair or stick in front of you to use as a bit of balance while you master the move.

I love using the TRX to assist with lunges and squats when I'm coming back from a layoff or just struggling to train. I can focus more on the movement and my full range of motion without feeling like I might wobble or get stuck at the bottom of the move. 

The assistance the TRX provides, allows me to trust that I can go deeper in the move which is good for my joints. It's especially effective when paired with the valslide reverse lunge. Give it a try and let me know how it feels for you.

There is no such thing as maintenance. You must keep doing the work. If you stop, you start sliding backwards. 

The good news is, the work becomes the fun part as you get stronger and see more results. I mostly look forward to my workouts. Maybe not every day but I know I'm one workout away from a good mood. That gets me to the gym. And I'm always glad I did it!!

If you've fallen off track for any reason, just start. It can be as simple as a walk. Get back in the habit. Then you can push yourself again. Your body will always be grateful you moved today.

Sometimes I get a little down. Usually the best reset is a good hike or a jump in the ocean. But I also know that to feel my best I need to check my diet. 

I love the ritual of water and lemon. It just puts me in spa mode. I'm back to cooking regularly because that also helps. Then I have to do the inner work to examine why my heart might be hurting. This could be journaling, breath work or meditation. Usually when I get quiet, something will bubble up that needs my attention.

You don't need a Monday or a beginning of the month to start making your life better. 

But since it's Monday and we are just a little past the halfway mark of 2024, this is as good time to start. If your goal is to feel healthier, the basics do really matter. 

1. Move your body. Ideally weight training 3-4x per week. And walking. It's good for the body and if done outside, good for the soul. 
2. Drink about 84oz of water daily 
3. Practice gratitude. It helps reframe your mind. 
4.. Eat your protein. And learn to cook a few things at least. It really does make a difference. 
4. Consistent bedtime. And 7-8 hours of sleep. If you suffer from depression, fixing your sleep can make a big difference. 
5. Say I love you. It feels good to say it. I say it to my dogs. But obviously say it to your partner, kids, family, etc. Just don't leave yourself out. You are worthy of your love too.

A little over 5 years ago, I had just had surgery for bladder cancer. It was an incredibly scary and vulnerable time. 

But then I was whisked away for a weekend, to a fabulous chalet in the mountains of Montana. I felt loved and supported. 

Then, this  beach girl fell in love with the beauty of the snow covered mountains and trees. Now, I have my own cabin in the woods. Significantly more modest but the snow on the trees here is equally beautiful. 

I love sitting by my wood burning fireplace and watching the snow fall. And the joy of watching my dogs Kaya and Sophie frolic in the snow is immeasurable!

Small habits make a big difference. If you want to get fit, start with just showing up consistently for your workout. Some workouts will be harder or longer than others. That's ok. Showing up daily is the win. 

This one habit will soon have a compound effect as you start to see yourself as someone who trains regularly and prioritizes health and fitness. 

This may lead to seeking out harder programs, joining a group fitness program or possibly hiring a trainer. 

You will notice how good you feel after your workouts which will lead to staying with it which will lead to improved fitness. This is the compound effect of making small, positive choices over time.

💃 Do what brings you joy. This is a key ingredient for health and happiness 
🐶 Own a dog. They are pure love
- don't skip recovery. Saunas, cold exposure, meditation, yoga are all good.
