His project, An Investigation of the Intersection of Affect and Meaning in Music-Based Pain Modulation, explores how the meaning behind music, rather than just its enjoyment, can influence pain perception.

Now a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. Cherup credits his time at UM and mentorship from Dr. Joseph Signorile for providing the research foundation that helped shape his career. Dr. Miriam Klein Kassenoff, the director of our SEHD/MDCPS annual Holocaust Teacher’s Institute (HTI) and the yearlong Gonda Salon Series focused on Holocaust education, was invited to share her experience as a survivor for a special program of the Jewish Museum of Florida - a cruise into the heart of Germany to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp. Dr Kassenoff was a featured speaker along with Holocaust Scholar Dr. Andew Gottleib and author Joan Nathan. Dr. Kassenoff was joined by MDCPS teacher and SEHD and HTI alumnus and volunteer Ms. Danielle Klahr. The trip focused on the history of the Holocaust and Jewish life in pre-WWII and during WWII in Europe, as well as the liberation of Dachau. During the experience, Dr. Kassenoff presented to both the tour participants on the cruise, as well as a group of German schoolchildren at the site. We look forward to being able to share the experience and information with UM and MDCPS students, teachers and faculty throughout the year. 2025-08-04 21:33:45 Dr. Miriam Klein Kassen.. 39 +15% 0 -
