This rare two-seat loveseat reflects Tenreiro’s mastery of balance - between intimacy and geometry, sculpture and use. The twin concave seats, carved directly into the wood frame, create a rhythmic dialogue of forms, inviting two people to share space without excess or ornament. In its restraint, the piece embodies Tenreiro’s belief that modern design should remain light, essential, and attuned to the needs of everyday life - while still carrying the refinement of timeless craft.

Tenreiro believed that modern furniture should embody both clarity and lightness - balancing the structural rigor of European design with the warmth of Brazilian materials. His dining sets exemplify this vision: slender, high-backed chairs in woven cane and jacarandá frame the table like an architectural rhythm, at once formal and inviting. More than a place of gathering, the ensemble reveals Tenreiro’s gift for proportion and his conviction that modern living required furniture both elegant and functional.

With Colendra Collection, lucassimoes challenges the boundaries between art, architecture, and design. The pieces carry the strength of architectural monuments but remain intimate in scale, inviting the viewer to sit, to touch, to experience.

Their sculptural presence destabilizes our expectations: grids are transformed into texture, concrete blocks into rhythm, metallic finishes into iridescent gestures of light. Simões’ work is not about ornament, but about essence - forms stripped down to their raw power and then reimagined through his singular lens.

Colendra is both timeless and urgent, embodying the idea that objects are not passive: they are active participants in the spaces we inhabit, capable of altering perception and shaping memory.

lucassimoes’ Colendra Collection is deeply informed by his journey as an architect and his relentless curiosity for how materials can tell stories. Concrete, steel, and unconventional finishes are not simply chosen for their physical properties - they are treated as instruments to compose narratives of tension, balance, and transformation.

The collection reflects Simões’ fascination with modularity and repetition, borrowing from urban landscapes while bending them into new, surprising identities. Each piece is a confrontation between the industrial and the poetic, where rigid construction methods are softened by curves, voids, and unexpected surfaces. In Colendra, Simões reveals that design can be more than a solution: it can be a question, an exploration, a constant unfolding.

Colendra Collection emerges as a powerful extension of lucassimoes’ creative force - a body of work that refuses to separate functionality from imagination.

Rooted in his architectural background, the collection transforms rigorous structures into fluid, unexpected forms. Each piece operates as both object and statement: functional furniture that carries the weight of sculpture, designed not only to be used, but to provoke.

By pushing materials to their limit, Simões creates dialogues between permanence and fragility, geometry and fluidity, the rational and the emotional. Colendra is not about reproducing the ordinary, but about reimagining what furniture can mean in the contemporary landscape.

Lucas Simões, whose works will be featured alongside Tenreiro’s, is a Brazilian artist whose work challenges the limits of form, material, and perception.

Born in 1980, Simões has gained international recognition for his sculptural and architectural explorations, often deconstructing and layering materials such as metal, concrete and paper to create dynamic, multidimensional pieces. His work is deeply rooted in process and materiality, reflecting an ongoing dialogue between structure, transparency, and void.

In addition to his acclaimed artistic practice, Simões has expanded his vision into furniture design, creating a collection that embodies the same conceptual and material rigor seen in his artworks. His furniture pieces, like his sculptures, explore balance, tension, and the interplay of contrasting materials, resulting in functional works that feel like extensions of his artistic investigations.

As seen in tmagazine this week. What an honor to have collaborated with lucassimoes on this truly groundbreaking immersive exhibition. Hundreds of hours in the making, shipped piece by piece from Brazil—a true homage to two visionary creatives that will leave their mark in design for decades to come.

‘Trained as an architect, Simões made his first pieces of furniture — shelving, an adjustable desk — as practical accessories for the heavy industrial tools and materials (concrete, steel, reams of paper) that shape his artistic practice. Later, while making a series of steel sculptures, he linked a pair of broad metal curves to create a lounge chair that looks like a balloon letter. During a studio visit in February, the São Paulo-based gallerist Ulysses de Santi invited Simões to develop a full furniture collection. The 19 resultant pieces — a marble-topped dining table modeled off that first work surface, a coffee table like an emphatic speech bubble — are playful but robust, “more like sculptures for the home than furniture,” Simões says.’ —tmagazine

Joaquim Tenreiro, a pillar of my upcoming exhibition “Lightness & Tension”, was a visionary designer and craftsman, and widely regarded as the father of modern Brazilian furniture. Born in Portugal in 1906, he emigrated to Brazil, where he revolutionized design by blending European woodworking traditions with the organic forms, materials, and sensibilities of his adopted country.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Tenreiro introduced a new aesthetic that rejected the heavy colonial styles of the past in favor of lightness, functionality, and elegance. His groundbreaking pieces, crafted from native Brazilian woods such as jacaranda, imbuia, and peroba, showcased his deep understanding of materiality and structure. His iconic works, including the Poltrona Leve (Light Armchair) and the Cadeira deTrês Pés (Three-Legged Chair), embody a poetic balance between modernist principles and Brazilian craftsmanship.

Tenreiro’s work was deeply influential in shaping mid-century Brazilian design, inspiring generations of artists and designers. His furniture, often made in limited quantities or as bespoke commissions, is now highly sought after by collectors and institutions worldwide.
