Clear communication is the foundation of accessible care. Dr. Cecilia Canales (ucla_anesthesiology), along with colleagues, is leading efforts to break down language barriers in health care through research, training and advocacy.

Shaped by her own experiences growing up, she’s expanding certified interpreter services, the number of multilingual clinicians and culturally adapted resources to serve a diverse population. “Health care is about connection. When we communicate effectively, we can deliver better outcomes for everyone,” says Dr. Canales.

In 2024 alone, our interpretation services supported patients in 112 languages. Read more at link in bio. 2025-09-06 03:59:11 Clear communication.. 611 -25% 12 -68%
For the past two summers, our culinary team has shown their devotion to create a special meal: a one-day-only feast of fresh lobster, drawn butter, corn on the cob, coleslaw and a roll. 🦞🌽

Inspired by summers spent enjoying seafood in San Pedro and Long Beach, Genesis Robinson, Administrative Director of Food & Nutrition Services, wanted to add a touch of summer to our hospitals, noting how food can spark joy and unite communities.

Meals were served to faculty, staff, and visitors who pre-ordered vouchers. Future food fests are in the works – what would you like to see next? Share below ⬇️ 2025-08-30 01:14:47 For the past .. 351 -57% 14 -63%

On May 4, 2025, the first-in-human bladder transplant was successfully completed at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Oscar Larrainzar, the transplant recipient, had lost most of his bladder during a tumor removal. Both his kidneys had also been removed due to renal cancer, leaving him on dialysis for seven years.

Surgeons transplanted the donated kidney, then the bladder and connected the organs using a novel technique. The team was led by Dr. Nima Nassiri, a urologic transplant surgeon, and Dr. Inderbir Gill at keckmedicineusc.

Four years in the making, a groundbreaking procedure has been performed for the first time: a human bladder transplant.

This novel technique was led by Dr. Nima Nassiri, assistant clinical professor of urology at the dgsomucla, in collaboration with Dr. Inderbir Gill, founding executive director of USC Urology at keckmedicineusc.

Human bladder transplants had not been performed before due, in part, to the complexity of the pelvic region’s vascular structure. This intricate surgery, however, was made possible at UCLA Health, where the advanced infrastructure supported every stage of the surgical process.
