If you’re or a loved one are experiencing #depression and/or suicidal ideation, reaching out for help can feel like one of the most difficult things to do. The #988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline makes it simpler.

Counselors listen, provide support and connect callers to local resources when needed. The previous Lifeline phone number remains available at 800-273-8255.

Thanks to Dr. Donny Suh and the pediatric team at the uci.eye, Thiago underwent successful cataract surgery in both eyes — a rare and complex procedure for children — and has since experienced a remarkable improvement in his vision and day-to-day life.

Drowning, a leading cause of injury and death among U.S. children and adults, is preventable by taking simple but essential safety precautions, says UCI Health emergency medicine Dr. Isabel Algaze Gonzalez. “Basic swimming skills and adult supervision — especially for children — can make a lifesaving difference.”

Drowning can happen in just a few inches of water and so quickly there is no time to cry for help, Algaze says. Following basic rules and learning simple water-safety skills can dramatically reduce the risk of injury or death.
