Come bestie let’s go for some gado-gado from neighbourhood auntie 🥜🥒🍚

No hate to white girl music I know that’s my heritage but pls at least give me some Zara Larsson x

Gado-gado is one of Indonesia’s national dishes, consisting of lightly cooked veggies, potato, tofu & tempeh, and small rice cake chunks in a spicy peanut sauce. It’s also usually with egg, but since I’m vegan I just ask for it without :)

AND IT’S DELICIOUS 🤌🇮🇩

Indonesian cuisine being underrated can be added to one of my core beliefs at this stage engrave it on my tomb I am ready to fight

Ps I recently discovered king tamtamvv page and it is an absolute gold mine of pb Indonesian recipes and food knowledge, check it 😍

See u at the next meal 🍽️

Niche content I fear 😭

PSA when you stop being scared of the places where locals are actually eating and stop only going to the segregated fancy tourist cafes your life will improve!!!

Don’t get me wrong, I too love an aesthetic cafe with good wifi for working and a silly little matcha-based drink sometimes.

But the flavours in THESE places? Phenomenal. Food? Seasoned. Portion? Generous. Sambal? On tap. Plus you know you’re supporting a locally owned small business (whereas some of these fancy tourist ones are foreign-owned, especially in Indonesia) AND you get to save your coin. Win win win 💸

I visualise and want for myself a life I don’t HAVE to choose the most affordable food option out of necessity. But best believe even when I reach that place I’ll still be keeping custom with auntie!!🙂‍↕️

You just know that there are ‘expats’ (immigrants) in places like Bali who have probably lived there for years and never set foot inside an actual Indonesian warung, may none of them be future hubby 🥲

Plenty videos exploring Indonesian cuisine on the way 🔥

Spoiler alert - everything wrong with tourism in Thailand has nothing to do with Thai people and EVERYTHING to do with said (especially western) tourists and ‘expats’!

Part 1 of 2 because reels over 3 mins won’t be recommended to new audiences 😭

If you’re in Thailand please share so it reaches the algorithm over there since I’m no longer there. To every Thai person who has seen this documentary and was upset by it (I know there are many of you) from the bottom of my heart I am sorry for this gross abomination 🇹🇭❤️‍🩹

I literally wrote an essay dissecting this trash (uni degree has to be used somehow😭) so here it is condensed into a <5 min video

Why does it matter? Why do Thais care about some silly documentary? It matters because aside from everything discussed in the video, this will affect tourism numbers in a country whose economy heavily relies on tourism.

The s3x tourism a direct result of foreign men fetishising Asian and Thai women and viewing them as submissive passive sex objects and certain people exploiting that for money. Just look at her interviews with ‘Mac’ if you don’t believe me 🤮

Drug-fueled party culture (e.g. Full Moon parties) are organized and monetized because foreign backpackers and gap-year travelers come seeking a lawless, carefree space. Thailand simply responds to the demands placed upon it to be able to maximise economic returns from tourism in an uneven postcolonial global economic system.

The doc shows British tourists being victimized (e.g. drink spiking), but it doesn’t show British or Westerners behaving irresponsibly or exploitatively — despite ample evidence this happens.

As always - the least benefits and the highest negative effects of tourism will always be felt by the communities already the most marginalised and economically disadvantaged. This doc could have been an opportunity to advocate for them.

BBC, do better.

“Why would you want to go to a Muslim majority country it’s not safe and the people are xyz “

Okay Darren, you can enjoy your bigoted views over there and l’ll be over here enjoying a beautiful region of rich culture, food, insane hospitality and history 🤷‍♀️

Throwback to last year when I spent October-December exploring Jordan, UAE, Oman, Iraq and Kurdistan, mostly solo - the trip of a lifetime 🌙💜

Hopefully I’ll make it to Yemen, Saudi, Lebanon, Syria and Iran soon!🤞

If you have any questions about travelling the Middle East solo feel free to ask them down below :)

Ps I know ‘middle east’ is a colonial term but I use it because I’m not sure what other descriptor I could use that would be as universally understood 🤔 Arab countries ?? But then that would include some of North Africa ? Muslim countries ? But there are tonnes of other Muslim majority countries not in this region, and these countries have other religions too, do you see my dilemma 🥲

I also wanna add that I'll be boycotting UAE moving forward, and do not plan to visit again due to what I've learned in recent months about its involvement in Sudan 🇸🇩💔

One of many thoughts I had when watching the BBC’s latest diabolically orientalist documentary 🤠

For those who don’t know, they just released a short series called ‘Thailand: the dark side of paradise’ and VERY UNDERSTANDABLY Thai 🇹🇭 people are not happy about it.

Not only does the documentary almost completely omit Thai voices and perspectives and totally centres white tourists and expats, but it chooses to present things with zero context or analysis

The tone of the documentary is judgmental and patronising, constantly comparing Thailand to Western expectations of law, order, safety, and morality, without sufficiently examining local laws, social norms, enforcement, or economic pressures, and just completely ignores WHO MADE THINGS THIS WAY AND WHO CREATES DEMAND.

The moral duality is CRAZY. Westerners come to Thailand to “let loose” in ways they wouldn’t at home — yet judge or condemn local behaviors when things INEVITABLY go wrong.

Zara McDermott and her film crew can come to Thailand and judge these things, but ultimately its people from YOUR country coming here and treating it like a playground and expecting certain things that made it this way and so many of the British people interviewed in the documentary make that 🙂PAINFULLY🙂 apparent babes

I find it hilarious that documentaries like this often try to seem neutral — “just showing the truth.”. But in reality, travel and tourism are highly political, especially in formerly colonized or economically unequal regions like Southeast Asia

Stop treating thailand and its people like your destination and your product that exists for your consumption only.

Send this to someone who’s watched *that* documentary but never been to beautiful Thailand themselves 🇹🇭

We’ve got some reputation to fix!

Bangkok KNOWS how to do malls and public spaces idc, this is one of my new favourites 🌿

This is 📍Central Park Bangkok in the Sala Daeng/Silom area - find the sky park up on the top floors and enjoy amazing views over Lumphini park and the city, free of charge🚶🏼‍♀️

Feels so good to be back in BKK, the only place I’ve ever actually lived/settled in long term outside of my home country! 😌

Apply below for foot pics 🤪 (kidding) (or not)

Welcome to Lalish 🦶🏼🕊️ one of the calmest
atmospheres on earth that I have encountered 🧘🏼‍♀️

Belonging to a people whose recent history is anything but calm.

Lalish is a tiny city in the mountains home to some of the Yazidi people, considered to be one of Iraq’s most interesting and mysterious religious minorities, but also the most persecuted. Lalish to Yazidis, is the equivalent of Mecca to Muslims.

But why are the Yazidi people such brutalised targets?

According to Yazidi belief, the peacock angel Melek Taus was the first angel created by God, and he is said to have fallen from grace before being forgiven, which contrasts with the Islamic narrative of Satan’s fall. Thus IS.IS consider them to be the worshippers of satan!

The yazidi people have faced countless gen0slides targeted against them and for this reason many (of this already minority population) have been displaced or martyred 💔

Visiting Lalish temple and leaving a donation is a good way to honour them 🪽

This is definitely one of the most unique and special places to visit in the Iraq & Kurdistan region.

I would recommend combining it with a visit to Akre 🕌🎇 which is not too far away and also an incredible place to see! 😍

Thank you little bro kamaran_world_ for taking us here!

Nothing crazy, just a simple little interaction, but I’m so glad I caught it on camera because it accurately shows how girlhood while solo travelling is absolutely everything. 🥰

Do NOT go to the giraffe centre in Nairobi 🇰🇪🤢

…without watching this video first ;)

Here’s your guide to what is probably my favourite tourist activity in Nai🦒

BUT to make your experience way better, less crowded and less hot be sure to go either at opening time (9am) or close to closing time (4pm for 5pm closing).

Leave enough time to get there as it’s a little way out of the city!!

1 hour is enough to chill with these long necked babies and get some cool pics etc 🤸🏼‍♀️

Entrance💰 KS 1500 (nonresident) ~ £8.57

And accept that your hand will be 99% giraffe saliva after this experience 🫠

Let’s take the bullet train in China 🇨🇳🚝

Overall I would rate this train experience pretty highly! There were hella people to get on this train so I thought it would be chaotic but it was pretty organised ✔️

Mad how I travelled almost 700 miles in 6 hours on this train 🤯 for around £50ish from memory, stunning views the whole way 🌳

UK national rail please take notes and put drinking water taps on your trains PLEASE xxx

Stay tuned for more of the China travel antics 🎥
