💛 The ginkgo tree in Bangye-ri, Wonju could never be JUST a tree.

It’s been a protected natural monument in Korea since 1964 - estimated to be at least 800 years old.

Its size is truly staggering, standing 33-metres tall, and stretching 37.5-m east to west, and 31-m north to south.

During late autumn in Korea, it gorgeously sheds its thousands of yellow ginkgo leaves, creating a golden carpet under your feet.

For reference, these videos were taken on November 15 last year, and I’d say we were about a week late.

It was still totally awe-inspiring, but head there a bit earlier if you want the tree to be fuller.

👉 ESSENTIAL INFO
- 42 Banjeori 2-gil, Munnak-eup, Wonju-si
- free to visit, parking on site
- takes about 90 minutes to drive directly from Seoul
- if using public transit, get to Wonju Intercity Bus Terminal, then transfer to local transport

🤩 Medicube is world famous for skincare products and devices that actually WORK, so I was thrilled to learn that there’s an actual Medicube Clinic too!

🏙️ As far as I know, there is only ONE location, located in Gangnam, Seoul.

📷 They provide a detailed consult and treatment recommendations, based on images from the VISIA skin scanner.

👨🏻‍⚕️ My treatments were personally performed by Dr. Myungsun Choi, and calibrated perfectly for my specific skin needs.

🫶 Overall, this was such a comfortable experience, with language support, a peaceful environment, and really personalized care.

🧴 They even recommended their best products for my skin type, so I’m happily using their TXA Niacinamide Capsule Cream and Serum right now, with great results. 😍

🙌 If you’re staying in Myeongdong, Juno Hair is definitely the place to go for your Korean head spa!

🤍 My hair stayed soft for sooo long after the treatment, and the best thing was that all the itchy, irritated feeling from my scalp disappeared too.

😍 Everyone speaks English, and the vibe there is relaxed and peaceful. I even got incredible views of Myeongdong Cathedral while getting my scalp treatment.

🥟 Juno Hair is located literally right in the middle of it all, with the HBAF almond store on one end, and Myeongdong Kyoja nearby.

❣️ There are several Juno branches in Myeongdong, but the one I went to is the main branch.

🍂 Chuseok is one of Korea’s biggest holidays, and this year is a doozy.

With a bunch of holidays lining up in a rare configuration, Koreans haven’t had this many days off in a row since 2017! 🙈

If you’re headed to Seoul during Chuseok, you’re probably wondering what it all means, and how it’ll affect your travels here.

Don’t worry! There’s plenty to do, and no - everything is definitely NOT closed.

Chuseok is actually one of my favourite times of the year to just hang out in Seoul and explore the city.

Insadong is a cultural beating heart in the center of Seoul.

Head there for cultural performances, hanok architecture, art galleries, peaceful teahouses, and traditional vibes galore.

Insadong Culture Street is also one of the best places to shop for souvenirs in Seoul! Weekends are a great time to check it out, when it’s car-free, and alive with activity!

Here are 5 wonderful things to do in Insadong to get you started.

💎 Jinyeon Traditional Music Performance
- a unique place to experience the music of the royal banquet
- super-intimate venue, where your can interact with the musicians and even try the gayageum yourself!

💎 Balwoo Gongyang
- Michelin starred Korean Buddhist temple cuisine, reservations required
- another option is Sanchon

💎 Jogyesa Temple
- incredibly important head temple of the Jogyesa order in Seoul
- MUST VISIT!

🧡 if you’re visiting South Korea in October, you need to watch this guide!

🔸 October is the middle month of autumn in Korea, and one of the best months to travel to Seoul. It’s probably one of my favourite times of the year!

🍁 Fall foliage is forecast to begin in Seoraksan National Park at the beginning of October. By mid-October, autumn leaves start changing colour in Seoul and Gyeonggido - and by the end of the month, most of Korea is awash in colour.

😎 Here’s a quick guide to October in Korea to help you plan your trip.

☀️ WEATHER
- October is as good as it gets in Korea weather-wise
- low humidity, low pollution, little rain, cool nights
- warm days, strong sun and blue sky

🧢 WHAT TO WEAR AND PACK
- layers, layers, layers!
- comfortable sneakers for thousands of steps and stairs
- warmer layers for evenings
- if you’re from a tropical country, you might even feel cold, especially at night
- sunscreen ✔️hats ✔️sunbrella ✔️

🇰🇷THINGS TO SEE AND DO
- head south to Buyeo and Gongju for the Great Baekje Festival
- admire the lanterns in Jinju (make sure to try Jinju naengmyun)!
- see the last Seoul drone show of the season - go on a Starlight tour of Gyeongbokgung Palace
- relax at Seoul’s outdoor library on weekends
- make the trip to Yangju Nari Park or Goseokjeong for a sea of autumn flowers
- head outdoors for hiking, sports, and exploring

😍 LOCAL TIP
There’s a rare 10 day holiday taking place from October 2-12, due to Chuseok and other holidays lining up. If you’re visiting during this time, book your KTX trains, buses etc… early. Better yet - just stay put in Seoul.

👀 Rejuran Eye is not for the faint of heart, but it’s one of the best skincare treatments for fine lines, dark circles and skin texture around the eyes.

It’s a more liquid form of Rejuran Healer - that’s the PDRN skin booster made from salmon DNA, that’s great for skin regeneration.

My friend tried Rejuran for the first time. And while the pain for her was nothing to sneeze at, she’s really happy with the results.

We also both had Botox, and were super impressed by the skill of the doctor. I think the effect from her injections is one of the best I’ve had in Korea!

Would def recommend All Line Clinic for their on-site translators, super detailed consultations, and professionalism.

😋 If you’re a Korean bbq lover, this place is definitely for you!

Kbbq Pig Company is an UNLIMITED pork buffet at an incredible price.

I’m talking 7 different cuts of pork, endless lettuce, veggies, and sauces that you can enjoy to your heart’s content.

If you go for the full course (which still only costs 23,900 won by the way), you’ll also get a big bottle of soda, fried chicken, naengmyun, and ramyeon too!

I brought my friend with the biggest appetite, but it was SO much food. If you plan to go, don’t eat for like 24 hours beforehand. 😁

Kbbq Pig Company is located right next to Euljiro 1ga Station, Exit 5, on the north end of Myeongdong.

🩷 I love this city so much.

Here I sit. Fifteen years into a life in Seoul. The city of my birth.

And though I’ve never felt LESS Korean than the day I was actually surrounded by my own tribe, I’ve found a peace here, that I’ve never experienced anywhere else.

How is it that I can feel at home, in a culture that’s so far off my inner compass, it’s not even on the map?

It’s taken living in 3 different cities, traveling to 61 countries, and most of my life, to grasp the simple truth that home cannot be found in a physical place.

Rather, that it resides within each and every one of us. And that when being within yourself is as comfortable as a well-worn pair of slippers, every place is Home.

What does home mean to you?

🤓 This is how to save yourself serious $$$ and time on an item that’s essential to many.

Yes… GLASSES! Getting glasses made in Seoul is something you just HAVE to do.

This + getting some skincare, a Korean body scrub, (and buying batteries 😆), are things I always recommend to friends visiting Seoul.

I’ve worn glasses since grade 5, and was totally shocked by how fast, affordable and easy the process is in Korea vs Canada (where I grew up).

You literally walk into a store, pick a pair of frames, get your prescription checked for free (if you want), choose lenses, and walk out with a brand new pair of glasses 30 minutes later.

Frames can be as cheap as 10,000 won, and lenses 50,000.

The price and how long it takes to make them, changes based on the frames you pick, what type of lenses you get (progressives, transitions etc), but for basic glasses, the efficiency and price really can’t be beat.

There are eyeglass stores literally EVERYWHERE, but I usually go to Davich - a huge chain with stores all over Korea.

👉 This has got to be one of the best value scalp treatments in Seoul.

Every step you expect in a hair spa in Seoul is there: microscopic diagnosis, scalp scaling, head massage, a CO2 waterfall, and even microneedling with their special volume tonic.

The difference in my scalp condition before and after this Korean head spa was kinda hard to believe.

I went from itchy, inflamed, and downright gross to moisturized and clear.

You can check out the before and after results at the end of the video. The difference is kinda crazy.

💎 This K-beauty treatment was micro-invasive, but also left me feeling like I had a million tiny shards of glass in my skin. 😱

It’s called Peptaxel, and it’s one of the newest K-beauty boosters for glassifying skin.

This is a great one to try if you’re scared of painful skin boosters like Rejuran or Juvelook.

The treatment itself wasn’t painful, but it took about 2 or 3 days for my skin to stop feeling like there were a million shards of glass in it, every time I touched it.

A really strange feeling tbh, but 100% manageable. Strange, more than painful.

Essentially, this skin treatment binds peptides to spicules (you know - the thing used in Reedleshot), to create micro channels deep within the skin, for ideal absorption, where it counts.

It’s needle-free, with very little downtime, and excellent results.

Want more details? Comment BOOSTER, and I’ll DM you more info.
