🚨 Everyone talks about Bali belly… but no one tells you how to actually avoid it. 🚨

Send this to someone planning their Bali trip so they don’t spend their holiday running to the bathroom instead of the beach! 🏝️

Let’s be real — Bali belly is no joke. And I’m not going to tell you it won’t happen… because it definitely can. But it also shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your trip. It can happen anywhere in the world, and with a few smart steps, you can seriously reduce your chances.

Here’s exactly what we do as a family 👇
1️⃣ Start probiotics about a week or two before we fly — it helps build up that gut defence early (the kids take them too).
2️⃣ Avoid tap water completely. That means no brushing teeth with it, and no fruits or veggies that might’ve been washed in it.
3️⃣ Wash and sanitise hands constantly. Before every meal, after touching money or railings — basically, all the time.
4️⃣ Pack Ondansetron just in case someone does get sick — it’s a game changer for recovery.
5️⃣ And most importantly? Accept that it could still happen. Sometimes it’s just part of travel life — deal with it calmly and move on.

💡 Pro tip: If your hotel doesn’t have a doctor on call, Google “Dr Ari Bali.” He’s well known among travellers and can come to you if you need help fast.

So yes — Bali belly is real. But it shouldn’t stop you from exploring, eating, and enjoying every bit of your Bali adventure. 🌴✨

Share this with someone who always needs to find a McDonald’s when they travel 😅
Because honestly — trying McDonald’s in a new country is a cultural experience. I don’t make the rules.

Every menu is a little glimpse into local life — from matcha McFlurries in Japan to corn pies in Thailand and rice with fried chicken in Indonesia. It’s not just fast food, it’s food anthropology (with fries on the side).

We only get so many weekends.
So many school holidays.
So many years where they still want to come on adventures with us.

And it all slips by faster than we ever expect.

The truth is, it doesn’t have to be a big or fancy trip.
Some of our best memories aren’t from overseas holidays, but from day trips to little country towns, exploring new corners of our own backyard.

It’s never been about where we go, it’s about being together.

Stepping away from the routines, the work, the house chores that fill our days.
When we’re out exploring, we’re more present. We laugh more. We slow down. We really see each other again.

These adventures, near or far, are what shape them.
They remind our kids that the world is wide and beautiful, and remind us how precious this short window of time really is.

They won’t remember the spotless house or the errands you ran.
They’ll remember how it felt to explore the world with you.

Take the trip. Big or small.
Because these are the days you’ll wish you could come back to. 💛

Follow along at travel.with.my.3.kids for more real and relatable family travel moments, tips, and inspiration to help you make the most of these years while they’re still little.

Have you ever noticed you never see babies in car seats on planes in Australia or Asia? ✈️👶

Here’s the reason — and what to know before you fly 👇

Some parents do travel with car seats, and a few airlines will allow them if they meet certain aviation standards.
But in reality, after more than 60 flights with my kids (and countless more before having them), I’ve never personally seen a baby flying in a car seat.

That’s because most airlines in this region have different setups — lap belts instead of 3-point harnesses, limited seat space, and varying safety approvals.
For most families, babies under 2 travel as lap infants with an infant belt or use a bassinet on long-haul routes.

It’s always best to check with your airline directly if you’re unsure — policies can differ between carriers.
So when you see advice online about “always using a car seat on planes,” remember — that’s often U.S.-specific guidance and not how most of the world travels.

Send this to a parent who might not know ✈️
And follow travel.with.my.3.kids for real-world family travel advice that actually applies outside the U.S. 🌏

You can take them to Japan, spend the whole day at a theme park, let them stay up late…
But ask them to do one tiny thing — and suddenly it’s the worst day ever. 😅

It’s wild how dramatic kids can be sometimes — even when they’re having the trip of a lifetime. But honestly, travel comes with big emotions. They’re tired, overstimulated, out of routine, and missing their little comforts from home.

So if your “best day ever” ends with tears or attitude, you’re not alone ❤️ That’s just part of the reality of family travel — equal parts magic and meltdown.

We started our Japan trip with sushi dreams and ramen goals… but after ten days of non-stop noodles, rice balls, and convenience store snacks, our kids looked us dead in the eye and said:

“Can we please just get pizza?” 🍕😭

That’s when we discovered Saizeriya — Japan’s most unexpectedly perfect family restaurant.
It’s cheap (meals from just a few dollars!), has English menus, kid-friendly everything, and is literally everywhere.

Sometimes the best travel meals aren’t the fancy ones — they’re the ones that keep everyone happy, full, and laughing about how you flew across the world for… Italian food. 😂

📍 Found all over Japan
💸 Meals under $5
👶 Perfect for families
🗾 Ideal “reset meal” between sushi and ramen marathons

This scene was such a powerful reminder that kids are just kids — no matter where they’re from.

A local Japanese boy hopped on the train next to my boys, kicked off his shoes, and propped his legs up on the wall for ages. His mum was right there, trying (not always successfully) to get him to listen — just like we all try.
We tend to think Japanese kids are these perfectly behaved little angels, but in that moment I saw: nope — they’re messy, energetic, a bit rebellious — just like ours.

💬 Ever seen your kids act exactly like another kid somewhere else, and felt that weird but wonderful connection?

➕ Hit follow if you love seeing the everyday, messy, unfiltered side of parenting.

You know those dreamy family travel reels with everyone smiling in matching outfits and no one crying?
Yeah… this isn’t that. 😂

Because real family travel looks like:
🧃 Snack negotiations every 10 minutes
😩 Someone always needs the toilet right when we’re finally ready to leave
🧳 Parents doing mental gymnastics over luggage weight
😴 Jet-lagged meltdowns in “paradise”
👶 And at least one kid refusing to walk when you’re 10 minutes from your destination

It’s messy, loud, chaotic — and somehow, still the best thing ever. 💛

Family travel isn’t always picture-perfect — and that’s exactly what makes it beautiful. Behind every dreamy Instagram photo is a toddler refusing to wear shoes, a missed nap, and parents just trying to keep everyone fed and happy. In this reel, we’re showing the real, unfiltered side of travelling with kids — the laughter, the chaos, the meltdowns, and the magic in between. If you love seeing honest family travel moments and want tips for exploring the world with little ones (without losing your mind), you’re in the right place.

That first hour after landing used to be pure chaos — no internet, wrong taxi stand, hungry kids melting down while we tried to find Wi-Fi 😅

Now we download an eSIM before we even leave home, so we’re connected the second we touch down. No searching for SIM kiosks, no dodgy mall Wi-Fi, no drama. Just smooth sailing from airport to hotel 🙌

Lately there have been so many ads for eSIMs, and while they’re honestly a game changer, it’s worth doing a quick check before you buy. Look at reviews for things like:
📶 coverage strength in the countries you’re visiting
💰 how long data lasts and whether you can top up easily
📱 how simple the setup process is
💬 and how responsive their customer support is if something goes wrong.

We’ve used a few different eSIM brands around Asia, and they’ve all worked really well. Options like Airalo, SimsDirect, and Nomad all have plans that cover Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore, so you can stay connected across multiple countries without swapping SIM cards.
My sister recently used Nomad for her China and Hong Kong trip and was super happy with how smooth it was — easy setup, strong signal, no issues at all.

💡 Quick tip: Not all phones are compatible with eSIMs, so double-check before you travel. And skip connecting to free airport or shopping mall Wi-Fi — it’s rarely secure and can expose your data.

If you travel often (especially with kids!), this little upgrade is a total sanity saver.

Every parent learns this the hard way 😭
That moment you walk into the resort shop and realise the $3 pool toys, goggles and sunscreen are suddenly expensive and luxury items 💸

It doesn’t matter if you’re off to a sunny beach town, an all-inclusive resort, or even a big city with a rooftop pool — the story’s always the same. You’ll either pay tourist prices or spend half your first day running around trying to find a shop that sells goggles.

We’re heading off to Thailand soon, and even though we’re only taking carry-on luggage (so every item has to earn its spot!), pool toys, sunscreen and goggles are 100% making the cut. They’re so expensive throughout parts of Southeast Asia — and honestly, we’d rather spend our time in the pool than shopping for them.
Whether we’re in Bangkok or Hua Hin, we know we’ll be spending time in the hotel pools every single day, so it’s worth packing them! 🏖️

Now we always do a quick Kmart or Target run before flying out. It’s one of those small travel prep steps that saves us so much money and time — so we can just relax and start enjoying the holiday from day one 💦

✨ We didn’t expect the overnight ferry to become one of our favourite parts of our road trip form Sydney to Hobart. ✨

We took the Spirit of Tasmania from Geelong to Devonport and honestly — it blew us away. Having our own cabin made everything so easy with the kids. We had dinner on board, played games in the kids’ area, then fell asleep as the ship sailed through the night.

Waking up as we arrived in Tasmania felt magical — no airport queues, no stress, just excitement for the adventures ahead. 🚗🌅

If you’re thinking about visiting Tasmania, we’d 100% recommend taking the ferry — it’s such a fun and stress-free way to start your road trip!

If you’ve ever tried to get out of a station in Japan with your partner… this one’s for you 😅
Because behind every calm Japan travel vlog is a mum confidently saying “Google Maps says this way!” while dad walks off in the complete opposite direction.

Japan’s train stations are next-level — like underground cities with exits that feel endless. Even when you think you’ve got it figured out, you somehow pop out on the wrong street, two blocks away from where you meant to be.

💡 Travel tip: Give yourself extra time when navigating big stations like Shinjuku, Osaka, or Tokyo. The signs are clear, but there are so many exits and levels that it’s easy to get turned around. And remember — it’s all part of the Japan experience (and the stories you’ll laugh about later 😂).

We’ve been to Nara before… but on our recent Japan trips, we chose not to go back with our kids 🦌✨

Here’s why 👇 The deer in Nara may look cute, but they can get very close, pushy, and even a little rough — which isn’t the best mix for little kids who scare easily during animal encounters. As much as we love exploring new places as a family, sometimes saying “no” to a famous spot makes the trip smoother and happier for everyone. 💛

✨ If you still want your kids to have a magical deer experience in Japan, we highly recommend visiting Miyajima Island instead. The deer there are far calmer and the atmosphere is much more relaxed — plus, the island itself is stunning to explore as a family. 🌸

✨The unspoken hotel buffet dilemma✨
You’ve paid for breakfast, the kids are guaranteed to get hungry later, and you’re staring at that perfect spread of pastries, fruit, and muffins. The question is… do you take a little something for later, or is that crossing the line? 🤔

We honestly can’t decide — it feels like everyone has a different opinion on this. Some call it clever, others call it wrong… but what’s the right thing to do? I want to know where you stand! ⬇️

✈️ Parenting theory unlocked: my kids behave better on planes than they ever do at home… and I’m convinced it’s because 200 strangers are silently judging us 😂🙈

Flying with kids is always an adventure, but somehow they pull it together in the air (probably because of the snacks, movies, and a little peer pressure from every other passenger onboard). Do your kids suddenly become model travellers the second you board a plane too? Or is it just mine?

💬 Tell me in the comments if your little ones act like different kids on flights — I want to know if this theory holds up everywhere!

✨ Road tripping from Sydney to Melbourne with our 3 kids was one of the best family adventures we’ve ever done. Instead of rushing through in one long day, we split it into 2 days and discovered so many amazing stops along the way. Exploring these small country towns was such a joy — each one had something unique, from giant landmarks to some of the BEST playgrounds we’ve found on any trip.

We started off at the Big Merino in Goulburn (a classic Aussie photo stop), then let the kids run wild at Carberry Park Playground in Gundagai. They had so much fun and it broke up the drive perfectly. After that, we visited the HMAS Otway Submarine in Holbrook — seeing a full-size submarine in the middle of the countryside blew their minds!

By the time we reached Albury, we were ready for some serious playtime at Oddie’s Creek Adventure Park. It was the highlight for the kids! We stayed at the Astor Motel (super comfy and close to everything) and ended our day with dinner at Soden’s Hotel, where the indoor playground meant happy kids + relaxed parents. Win–win. 🙌

On day two, we continued to Glenrowan where the kids learned all about Ned Kelly at the Discovery Hub. It was such a fun, interactive way to learn about history before the final stretch into Melbourne.

This road trip honestly reminded us that slowing down and exploring the in-between towns is just as special as the big cities. We made memories at quirky roadside stops, discovered amazing playgrounds, and had such a good time together as a family.

✈️ Travelling with kids and doing carry-on only might sound impossible… but trust me, it’s a game changer 🙌

No waiting at baggage claim. No lost luggage stress. No hauling giant suitcases through airports, taxis, and hotels. Just one backpack each = freedom. 🎒

On our last trip we tested it with my 8-year-old — packing cubes for clothes, a pair of versatile shoes, swimwear, and his Nintendo Switch. The result? Way less clutter, more independence for him, and easier travel days for me.

The biggest benefit? 💡 You save time, money (no baggage fees!), and energy — which means more headspace for actually enjoying your holiday. 🌴

It takes a little practice (and yes, sometimes you’ll pack too little the first time 😂), but once you get it right, you’ll never want to go back.

🚨 You’re going to want to read this — and send it to someone about to book flights! 🚨

In the US, you will hear about families almost always being able to gate-check their strollers without a problem ✅.

But in Australia and much of Asia (Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, etc.), airlines are far stricter 🚫. Many won’t allow gate-checking at all, or only accept tiny umbrella strollers. Some airports do offer complimentary strollers you can use up to the gate, but you can’t rely on this everywhere. Rules vary significantly from country to country, and even from airport to airport.

👉 This is why we always recommend a proper travel stroller that folds into a bag for the overhead compartment. It saves headaches and keeps your hands free when you land! We almost always travel with a carrier as well. You just never know when it might come in handy!

Worried about not getting a Pasmo or IC card in Japan? 🚉✨ Don’t stress — it’s honestly no big deal! Station ticket machines are super easy to use, and if your kids are over 6 they’ll need their own physical Pasmo/IC card anyway. Just keep in mind that kids cards can only be purchased at a staffed counter (not from the machines).

💡 Extra tips for families:
– Always carry a few ¥100 coins — machines are quick and coins make it stress-free.
– Save time by downloading a route app like Google Maps or Japan Transit Planner so you know your fares in advance.
– If you’re travelling with a stroller, look for elevators near the wider gates — staff will help if needed.
– Kids under 6 ride free with a paying adult, so if you’ve got little ones, that’s one less ticket to worry about!

Book lovers and creatives, you do not want to skip these spots in Japan! 📚✨

And if you know someone planning a trip to Japan with kids - this is the type of post you will want to send them 📩

Start in Osaka, where Maruzen & Junkudo sit in Chayamachi, Umeda. It's one of the city’s trendiest neighborhoods. Think upmarket vintage clothing stores, stylish bookshops, and the perfect pit stop at Blue Bottle Coffee before or after browsing the shelves. It’s a chic, creative pocket of Osaka that feels worlds away from the busy main station.

In Tokyo, the famous Kinokuniya Shinjuku is surrounded by neon lights, ramen shops, and the buzzing Shinjuku streets. It’s the perfect stop after wandering through Omoide Yokocho or before heading up to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building for a free city view.

And don’t miss the Tokyo Origami Museum, tucked into a quieter neighborhood where you can experience a more local side of the city. After picking up gorgeous origami books and paper, stroll nearby streets for hidden cafes and small craft shops.

These spots aren’t just for book shopping, they’re experiences that combine culture, creativity, and the magic of Japan. Perfect for families, travellers, and little creators who can’t get enough of books and crafts.
