- Just back from our latest retreat in the foothills of Mt. Minobu! We started with mindfulness and heart practices at the temple, chanted with monks at sunrise, then hiked a 600-year-old pilgrimage trail through forests, waterfalls, and wild mountain paths. We practiced in silence, in community, with deer and red frogs and friendly obachan along the way. Fire meditation, onsen soaking, nourishing meals, deep reflection. Not an escape...more like a return to what really matters. I’m taking a short break now and will be back for our fall retreat in October. Stay tuned for our next one! 🍁 #mindfulness #retreatlife #meditationretreat #mtminobu #japanretreat #forestbathing #natureheals #shojinryori #onsenlife #tokyomindfulness #heartfulness #spiritualpractice #innerjourney #earthairwaterfire #meditateinjapan
- We had over 40 people show up for our Eye Contact session during Golden Week. After our first round of eye contact (2 minutes of presences and silence while making eye contact) I asked if anyone had anything they wanted to share. “These are good people,” said one woman. Everyone nodded. Yes! But what did she mean? Most of the time we’re chasing a goal, a deadline, or a version of ourselves we haven’t quite become. Our vision is narrow. In the process, we lose touch with other people. We start seeing people as obstacles, competition, background noise. It becomes “me vs. them.” But underneath this is a simple truth: We’re all just doing our best! That comment, “these are good people,” wasn’t a moral judgment about progress or status. She was talking about the simple goodness we can feel when we slow down and truly look at each other. The lenses we wear shape how we move through life. And most of the time, our lenses are tuned to improve. “How can I fix this? What should I be doing better? How do I get ahead?” But the most meaningful moments in life don’t come from fixing or optimizing. They come from deepening our relationships, our awareness, and our appreciation. These are not improvement projects. They are invitations to see with new eyes. Rather than being 'better,' noticing what is true, beautiful and good right now. Can we put on those goggles? Because these are good people… And so are you. #mindfulness #gratitude #eyecontact #tokyo #spirituality #community
