Looking for family-friendly accommodation in Osaka? Then I highly recommend staying at MIMARU Osaka Shinsaibashi East (MIMARU大阪 心斎橋EAST)!

The staff are really friendly and speak multiple languages, including English. They happily answered any questions my husband and I had, switching flawlessly from English for me to Japanese for my husband. My 5-year-old daughter also had fun playing games with them in an attempt to get candy. When we checked in, we got special coins as well to use for snacks and drinks at the hotel. My daughter was in heaven with all the snacks she got!

This apartment hotel is an awesome place for long-term stays in the city. The room is significantly larger than what you’d typically get at other hotels in Japan, especially for the price. It has a kitchenette that is stocked with pots, pans, dishes, and kitchen utensils. The dining table is spacious, too, perfect for having breakfasts in (which we usually do when we travel).

There are tons of games you can rent for free as well, so you can enjoy some low-key and cozy family time in the comfort of your room if you feel like taking a break from traveling for a bit. (My daughter is always excited to stay at a hotel but she can sometimes be a bit of a homebody so she loved this!)

MIMARU Osaka Shinsaibashi East is also in a super convenient location, only 8 minutes on foot from Shinsaibashi Station and 3 minutes from Nagahoribashi Station. This is a great area for shopping with the family and eating Osaka’s famous foods like okonomiyaki until you drop. There’s a supermarket and many convenience stores less than 5 minutes away, too!

Follow the link below and use the code OYADOO4 to get 5% off any of mimaruhotels ‘s five locations in Osaka! (Comment below or DM me if you want me to send you the code and link directly)

At the end of spring break this year, I took my daughter to KidZania Japan and she had a blast!

It’s really like a tiny town for kids, they did such a good job with it. I can’t wait to take her again during summer vacation, which is coming up!

I’ve written an article about my experience taking my daughter to KidZania. Link in my Stories or search for KidZania on my blog!

Hi, I’m alive! 👋

I am SO SORRY for not updating for a while, this has been a crazy month 😣 I even forgot about Mother’s Day until my husband and kid surprised me with flowers and presents. Thankfully it’s been 90% good things taking up my time. I have so much to share in June when everything calms down and I’m really excited! (The blog is still being updated, I wrote a bunch of articles last month and scheduled them to be posted in May and June!)

I had Wednesday afternoon off this week so I took my daughter to the Sailor Moon Museum in Osaka, which is running until June 2nd.

We went to the Tokyo one back in 2022 so it was really interesting to see how my daughter’s reactions to everything changed. She was far more engaged and excitedly pointing at everything and asking me which was my favorite. She’s growing up so fast!

Sadly, unlike the Tokyo museum, the Sailor Moon Cafe is reservation only and all the spots were quickly snatched when the museum opened! My daughter was so disappointed 😔 But she got some cute souvenirs and I took her somewhere later that made up for it (will write about it next month 😉).

Are your kids Sailor Moon fans?

I absolutely love Osaka and I think it’s a must-visit city with kids. There’s so much to do!

I’ve written articles about where to visit with kids in Osaka as well as an itinerary, so make sure to check them out! Search for “Osaka” on my website (link in bio) or check out the link in my Stories.

I don’t always have the time to make reels for my articles so there’s a lot that have been published on my site but haven’t been shared yet 😅 Actually my Osaka article has been out for a while now, oops! 😬 I’m more of a writer than an instagrammer!

I feel like Kumano Kodo in Wakayama should be on everyone’s Japan bucket list. It is absolutely beautiful, and there’s lots for kids to do in the surrounding area. But my daughter loves temples and shrines anyway so she would have been happy with just that!

To know more, check out the link in my Stories or go to my blog (link in profile) and look up “Kumano Kodo”.

Today is the first day of the new school year for my daughter and the end of spring break.

We had a lot of fun visiting places, including Shiga Prefecture. I loved seeing Onjo-ji Temple during, which is one of the four great temples in Japan. It was stunning last weekend during the peak of cherry blossom season.

There’s so much beauty in Kansai 🥰

If you’re in Japan in spring, I highly recommend hiking Mount Yoshino in Nara for the cherry blossoms. I had already lived in Japan for over a decade when I visited and it took my breath away 🌸

I’ve written an article about my experience going there with my family, including toddler, so give it a read to know more! Link in my Stories 🔗 or search for Yoshino on my website.

(Note that this year the cherry blossoms are expected to be in full bloom around April 7th!)

My Kyoto with Kids article is UP!

I’ve been in living in Kansai for more than two years now so I figured it was about darn time I wrote an article about places I have visited so far with my daughter in Kyoto.

And I didn’t do it alone! I recruited my mom friend and Kyoto resident lisalayout to help share the perspective of not one but TWO local moms.

So if you’re wondering what to do with kids in Kyoto, this article is for you 🌸 Link on my website (in bio).

100 years ago, someone asked that I write an article about convenience store food in Japan for kids. I’m so sorry it took so long but it’s finally here! Actually it’s been here for about a month now 😅

To be honest, I was more than a little nervous about writing it, and then sharing it, but I decided to just share food that my daughter (4) likes 👍🏽

Today’s Setsubun, a day of casting out demons and bringing in good luck 👹➡️✨🤞🏽

We stumbled on mamemaki at a temple in Kyoto today, which was a first for all of us (even my husband, who’s Japanese 😂). The Buddhist priests threw packages of soybeans and mochi into the crowd. Then all the kids got a special gift — a bag of sweet puffed rice snacks!

Mount Fuji can be quite shy when it comes to photos so my family was more than happy when it decided not to hide behind a bunch of clouds when we visited before moving to Kansai. It was the perfect farewell to Kanto, and the ryokan we stayed at made the trip unbelievably memorable.

If you have a little one and are thinking of staying at a ryokan, I HIGHLY recommend it. In fact, I’ve written an article all about ryokan in Japan that are perfect for babies, toddlers, and older children! Merry Christmas! 🎄 Wishing you all peace, joy, and love this Christmas with your family 💕

We spent Christmas Eve eating and Christmas Day opening presents and eating some more. It’s work as usual on Christmas Day in Japan but my husband took a day off so we could spend it together 🥰

Believe it or not, my daughter’s favorite present was a little bento box toy for her doll! 2023-12-26 07:14:42 Merry Christ.. 0 -100% 2 -71%
Christmas is less than a week away so I thought I would share a very real video about how I made a super simple Christmas bento for my 4-year-old.

This was my first time making a video like this so it is FAR from perfect. I also give a lot of credit to having the right tools, many of which can be found at 100 yen stores or Amazon (I’ll provide the links in my Stories).

When it comes to planning what I’ll make, I draw what I have in mind on a notepad and ensure that I have the ingredients beforehand (having a stock of frozen premade bento food is always a must!). Sometimes I just use whatever is in the fridge. I use the leftovers from the bento too, we put the carrots in our nabe for dinner and my husband ate the nori.

Making a cute bento isn’t for everyone but personally, I love it. I love being creative and my daughter always looks forward to whatever I make. As with everything, it’s a learning process and I think I’ll become better with practice. (And I’m happy all of you are here with me on my bento journey!)

And for any parents out there who feel guilty about not making cute or fun bentos, please don’t! What matters is that your child is fed and happy, not how the food looks.

(Side note: I’m a little self conscious of my hypermobility (double-jointed fingers) so I hope it doesn’t freak anyone out! ) 2023-12-20 05:43:17 Christm.. 0 -100% 18 +165%
Last month our family of three did an onsen day trip (日帰り温泉) at a ryokan located in Arima Onsen in Hyogo, Japan. Arima Onsen is famous for two types of hot spring water, a “silver” type with clear water that is called Gin no Yu (銀の湯) or Ginsen (銀泉), and a more brownish-orange “gold” type called Kin no Yu (金の湯) or Kinsen (金泉).

The ryokan offered several onsen baths, indoor and outdoor, and with both Ginsen and Kinsen. My 4 yo daughter loves onsen and this was no exception. She especially loved the Kinsen (gold) onsen, which she called “orange juice” 😆

The outdoor baths also had the most beautiful view of colorful momiji trees 🍁 (sadly I couldn’t take a photo since cameras are not allowed).

The onsen day trip package also included lunch at their restaurant, and it did not disappoint. My daughter really liked her kids meal, which was super fancy and tasted delicious (I kind of wish I got her roast beef!). Afterwards, we decided to take another dip in the onsen before heading home.

I’m looking forward to doing this more often! If you want a ryokan experience but don’t want to break the bank, this is something to definitely try.

I’ve written an in-depth article about onsen in Japan, including etiquette, how to visit with kids and places to go, so check out the link in my bio!

Now that it’s cold out, we’ve been warming ourselves up by relaxing in lots of onsen ♨️ My daughter loves onsen so much (she likes to pretend she’s a mermaid), but I’ll admit that it was intimating taking her at first, especially to public onsen.

A quick autumn bento. And by quick I mean I had less than a minute to take photos before packing it up and sending my kid to preschool 💨 Hence why it’s not centered on the mat but oh well, such is life! Thankfully my daughter loved the “acorns” in the bento.

This month has been super hectic. I keep hoping things will calm down but it looks like December will be the same. I haven’t even started decorating the Christmas tree, it’s standing there bare, asking why I have left it naked in the living room. (I’m sorry, tree, it’s because I am tired. Whether you’re living in Japan or visiting, Universal Studios Japan in Osaka is a must-see place with kids! Yesterday we had went to a Halloween buffet at Cafe in the Park at anacrowneplaza_osaka (this is not sponsored, I am not cool enough for that 🤣).

Trick-or-treating is catching on in Japan but isn’t nearly as widespread as it is in North America. You definitely don’t go to random houses and say, “Trick-or-treat!”

So I decided to organize a little trick-or-treating event for the kids in the neighborhood! 👻

I started planning two months in advance and contacted the families a little over a month ago. I was so surprised by the number of kids that ended up joining! Even families that didn’t have kids who could join handed out candy 🍬

And look at my daughter’s haul! Everyone wrapped numerous goodies in adorable bags and there was so much that us parents ended up carrying half of it 🤣 Buckets were overflowing and the kids had a blast.

I’m so happy that it worked out, but it couldn’t have happened without all of my amazing neighbors 🥰

Looking forward to this being a yearly event that makes wonderful memories for the kiddos 🎃

(And yes, I know Halloween is on Tuesday but I felt the weekend would work better for families in Japan as parents tend to work late and little ones have to go to bed early ☺️)
