The exterior of this house has a long long LONG way to go. We didn’t quite get to it this year - we had hoped to but it’s a BIG task. To scratch the itch a little we decided to paint the front door to make coming home more fun, I picked the colour on a whim but it’s a triumph. Save this for when your hydrangeas are ready to cut. Mine are ready now - it’s August now. Cutting and drying hydrangeas is an annual ritual for me. It’s time to replace last years haul. If you leave the blooms on the plant until they start to feel papery and a little faded, they dry beautifully indoors - and keep their shape and colour for months. I haven’t been as quiet as it might’ve seemed — in fact, quite the opposite! Life has been full lately: garden projects, design work, kids… you name it. But check this out. The belongings of a special loft bathroom for a lovely client of mine. I’m really excited about this project, perhaps because it really reminds me of my old house loft. The moment I saw the space I could picture it finished. So much potential and amazing ceiling height for a loft. It will be very different to mine visually - what I mean is I’m happy to help my client live in their house better, use the space to the maximum and really give them a bit of luxury and a place to escape. This week was an exciting one! One of my projects has started on site, and what a project it is. Look at this stunning period property, the brick and the windows are to die for. This is a big project, starting with 8-9 rooms I think it is. What a privilege it is to be given the honour of making it a home for my lovely clients. Pruning paniculata hydrangeas ✂️✨ One of the easiest hydrangeas to care for, these beauties flower on new wood, which means now is the perfect time to give them a good prune. I like to cut back last year’s growth to just above a pair of healthy buds—this encourages strong new stems and even bigger, more beautiful blooms later in the season. This reel was made when I had my London garden, I thought it might be handy for you to see it again. Look at those blooms after a hard prune! I loved growing these in my last garden, and bringing them into this new garden is definitely part of my plan. Can’t wait to see them flourish here! I always get asked how to prune hydrangeas! Since moving, this is my first time pruning mine—huge, happy, but totally overgrown. I made this reel super quick, I hope it’s useful.
