Alittle recap of our trip to the south of France. A quick 4.5 hour train ride and we arrived at the ocean . This time we chose to stay in St Raphael, at Cap Esterel resort. Which if you are traveling with children, I highly recommend. They had everything you could possibly want on the property, and were completely family focused while still feeling like an adult property with a Spa and 7 Restaurants. Compared to St, Tropez, There’s not much happening in St Raphael, but the Scenery is truly spectacular, bonus you don’t have to take the additional 45 minute Taxi ride from the train station to St Tropez. I received the sweetest package from violette_fr of their Full Serum set, just as I am needing to re-up almost all of my serums. I can’t wait to try and experiment with all of these , as my skin calls for them. Week made. I love all the beautiful doors in the apartment. We have to keep door wedges under all of them, because we have our windows open all of the time and the wind slams the doors around. However, our little dachshund puppy Henry, steals them all, and keeps hiding them in his little “ layer” under our bed. I’ll hear Justin open the windows and then the doors start slamming around and we begin our hunt. All the dachshund owners know the struggle. A picture perfect Parisian weekend. We had an unexpected heatwave hit Paris the last week, but it has finally passed and it’s back to the gorgeous cool summer weather we love. Every day I fall more and more in love with this city, this country and all its amazing , warm and friendly people. There’s so many incredible things about Paris, but the main thing , for me, as a creative, is how visually stimulating creatively it is as soon as I walk out my front door. Everywhere we go, the light, the textures, the architecture , the landscape, even the street art. It’s something I didn’t know I had been missing. It’s unlocked a part of my creative brain that has been asleep for a while, or at least it’s brought it back to life in a natural way. In my Designs of course, but I also have been painting and sketching again. Something I haven’t done in forever, just for enjoyment. Just a little Peak of the kitchen. It’s almost done, but I had to get things on the shelf immediately. I cannot tell you how good it feels to start having a functional kitchen again. I’ll just put this note here again because I always get asked: In France you Renovate and customize the kitchen and take it with you wherever you go. Rentals don’t typically come with kitchens. We were lucky ours did come with one, though it needed some upgrading. I walked by the living room and the light was so nice this morning. It’s just about done. I need to find the right tree for the corner still and I’m trying to convince Justin to switch out the TV for a smaller one…. Finally, finally the kitchen Reno is getting started. It’s completely my fault. When we moved in, I wanted to just go with the trend and throw up marble and a marble backsplash probably a marble shelf or a big shelf of some kind, paint the cabinets and be done. But I stopped myself, and threw it all out the window. I lived in the apartment for a bit and thought for a while more what I wanted to do and decided that I wanted to add in a kitchen that felt like it had been in the apartment for a long time. One of those cozy old kitchens, that feel old and homey, a little European , and felt old and had character. I lived with this idea and started to really love it and feel right about it. So this is what we’re doing! A cozy, European old kitchen with tons of character and a lot more functionality. Here’s some photos to give you an idea of aesthetic. There’s something in each I love. I snapped this little video last night, as the sun was about to go down, and the trumpet player was walking on the street below. It was just magical. It’s almost balcony weather again in Paris. I had to delete our Apartment video tour a while back because……people are crazy. Since I am nearing the point of being able to really share a full video of a completed space, and other exciting …shoots 😉. I want to put the Video Tour back where it belongs. I can still feel the excitement, joy and peace we felt that very first day walking in. I said to Justin the other day, we never really had a crazy “ move in” day at the apartment with boxes and cleaning and chaos. In the beginning I was rushed to get everything done, as I’ve mentioned before but now, I’ve finally come ( closer) to being at peace with really letting the spaces unfold as they are and I’ve been so much happier with what’s happening. I’ve been working on the little sitting room off our living room, lately and it’s coming along. Originally it was Justin’s office only, but I decided I wanted it to be more living space. So now it will be multi-use, giving us overflow space which, in an apartment is so much needed. Even though, we are super fortunate to have such a large apartment. I love Christmas, and Christmas in Paris was absolutely beyond magical, however there is just something so fresh and clean about those first few days after taking down the decorations. As requested! A somewhat typical Saturday for us. Usually we do our big errands on the weekend even though the kids are Homeschooled and Justin and I do work from home, we just find sometimes it’s difficult getting a lot done during the week. Like not work from home families I’m sure! Our local Farmers Market is a Treasure, and the Vendors are sweethearts and they love the kids. Of course the prices for food, is unmatched. I was on the hunt for an A-typical Indoor tree, which is kind of hard to find in Paris but I love the one I found. Once planted it will be about 5ft, and grow very fast. I didn’t record it, but we also made a pit stop at the French Version of what you would consider like a Target in the states, but MUCH more chic, and grabbed a few things. We had the most magical Halloween weekend 🍂. The kids had 3 days of back to back Trick or Treating all around Paris. From our building, to the 7th all around the Eiffel Tower, to the Tuileries Garden. For me though it was about so much more than just Halloween. When we were making the final decision to move to Paris , we took one last trip and spent weeks in an Airbnb trying to visualize our life here. As a parent , my biggest concern was always my kids. One of the things I dreaded the most was having to tell them, especially P who is only 8, that she would have to give up Halloween. ( One of a few things of course) You have to understand, our family LOVES Halloween. In our previous neighborhood it was a giant ordeal, and a huge party. While we are looking forward to adapting to the French culture, as a mom I had so much guilt about the things they would have to give up by moving, and as a parent, we never want our kids to go without. I remember that rollercoaster of emotions so vividly on that trip. Obviously Halloween was one drop in a bucket of topics we discussed during the move, but it weighed on my mind during that trip for some reason. Fast forward and here we are, living here as we head to our meet up spot to go trick or treating on the second day, and wouldn’t you know it, it’s 3 doors down from our Airbnb from that very trip! Not only did they not have to give up Halloween, but they are Happy and Thriving. My family is Happier than we have ever been , and thriving. It was such a full circle moment to see them smiling and laughing around those same streets, where in my head I can see now I was trying to hold on to the silliest of little things to keep us from going to where I knew we needed to be. It’s a scary thing to make a giant jump into a new country, and a new culture , and when you take a leap like that, sometimes it’s so easy to try and self sabotage at the last second to self protect and keep yourself safe from the unknown. If there’s anything I have learned from life, is there is so much growth and beauty in taking that leap , if you are lucky enough to be able to. We finally are getting some real furniture in the spaces, to where the rooms are feeling like actual rooms, and then all together feeling like a home. I struggle with the 2 sides of myself during this phase. The side that loves to treasure hunt, Design and see it all come together. Then the OCD, side that needs, everything in its place, organized , complete and without chaos, to feel settled and at home. There will be a lot of progress around the apartment this week, and I am really excited about that. Here’s a funny thing. Remember how much I used Branches from my yard, pretty much everywhere in my old house? In the viral entryway photo, the shop , everywhere. Well, now we have to plan a trip outside Paris to try and go branch hunting! I need a big twisty one to stick in that round basket. It’s funny the things you take for granted. I also have been meaning to do a life update video and answer all the questions we’ve been getting, and just update you guys on life in Paris. We took the high speed train from Paris to the crystal clear waters of St Tropez last week, strictly for the purpose of dipping our toes in the sand before the summer’s end. It was so easy, we walked right onto the train, and in about 4 hours we were up to our knees in the Mediterranean Sea. One of the things we love about Paris, is how easily ( and quickly!) we can travel to so many beautiful places. The resort and the little bit of the city we saw was beautiful, and the people , so sweet. We can’t wait to go back. We came back to Paris and fall is in full effect. Our Kitchen Renovation begins tomorrow!! Yes before I get asked, let me answer the question. It is completely normal to renovate a rental kitchen in France. In fact, most rentals don’t even come with a kitchen, you are expected to provide your own, and then take it with you when you go. The kitchen , from the functional standpoint is just not working. There was not enough storage for a family of four, and very little counter space. We are a family that loves to cook, eat and entertain so we need a cute and hardworking kitchen. I also really want to add back some of the character missing from this space, to match the rest of the apartment. On the flea market hunt list: Sconces, maybe a new pendant light, and a big wooden storage piece for pantry. I’d love to find an old bakery cabinet. For now the floors will wait.
