But I am leaning in and not running these days. I don’t see myself as an artist, it feels like an unneeded burden, but photography was a soft landing for so many moons…and that does feel good]()

![The nytimes did little feature on Maddie and her time with us. It was such an amazing adventure. What a story and journey. I imagine most dogs don’t get to see all 48 states, every state in Mexico, and wander all the way down to Belize.
I got Maddie when I was 28 and truly wide eyed to the world. Nothing else matter except for taking photos and a true love for telling stories.
In this moment I do feel lost, not fully sure what to do with the “extra free time” I now find myself with…but whatever I get into next I hope I can love it as much as I loved Maddie.

![What’s the biggest mistake you’ve made? Mine was not fully understanding septic COSA’s when I started building. The past year has been incredibly stressful, it truly was up in the air if the cabin would forever become a dry office only BUT we are finally on the other side of it! We have DEQ septic approval!

I hadn’t spent the holidays with family in a decade (!) but so glad I made it this year…I’m def swapping thanksgiving for Christmas visits 🎄
2023 was easily the toughest year of my life, but sitting here at the end of the year I’m feeling grateful. Kinda neat how life shakes us once in a while and brings us exactly what we need to learn. It’s so easy to cruise on auto pilot through life
Landing in the hospital with pneumonia, that turned into plural effusion (3L of fluid!), that turned into dozens of CT scans and cancer screenings has sent me down a new path….I’ve lost 50 pounds and walking 15k steps most days and haven’t had a drop of booze since June. I highly recommend the sober life, way better sleep and clarity. Huberman Labs has a podcast on alcohol and if you catch that episode it might change how you see that poison
I also can’t of another year I took so few photographs. I honestly felt a deep sense of failure about it, almost like I was abandoning a career…I bid 6 bigger advertising jobs in 2023 but didn’t land any of them. It was extremely disorienting to begin the journey of thinking is this the moment to change careers? Where should my heart go next?
I need to wait till closing to say more, cause things always change quick BUT I can say I have some amazing plans to build this coming year…hard to describe how much joy I find in building with my own hands

If you caught our stories a few months back Maddie started the once a month Librela arthritis injection. It’s been amazing so far…she’s back to walking a few miles a day and trotting along in front of me again, hopping up on the couch, and trying to sneak kitchen counter foods
It’s been our a few years in Europe, so there’s lots of data on it efficacy, but might be worth looking into your friend is also suffering from osteoarthritis ✨]()

I added a dedicated desk spot in the main house with this lovely power height adjustable desk from Room & Board. It’s the first one I’ve ever seen with 4 legs and I think it looks tidy.
My goal is always to create a space and experience I’d want to find on the road traveling…something really special. I figured having a laptop stand, keyboard, and mouse for when you arrive felt right. I’m just out here trying to make the best Airbnb I can
Ian’s now I have a spot for this chair and ottoman in the 2nd bedroom, not just a spot to sit but it’s lounging comfortable for reading

![It wouldn’t make good sense to pick a fight with Tom Wolfe and Steinbeck but for last night at least it felt like I could go home, not sure about all the fuss they were making
At least that far off feeling of knowing home is the salty air I was born into. I was breathing it again, it had been far too long. Hearing that slower talking of locals, putting my fingers in the water, all good things
That exact home for me is a Pollocksville NC, just a little map for in between other places. It’s my grandfathers tobacco fields and sandy soil. Not all too different than Savannah, except in all the specific ways that makes a place expensive to buy a house, like amazing live oak trees full of droopy moss and neatly organized streets you want to walk
I spent most of my core adulthood life trying to avoid that salty air I grew up in…but on the second half of my life’s journey (40+ now!) I sure do miss it
