Your guide to the best things to do in Seongsu-dong. → Save this post for later.

Seoul’s “Brooklyn” is all warehouses, murals, and surprises. Yes, that includes the viral toilet-themed WXCK Photo Booth for the most unhinged souvenir shot.

Come for the nonstop pop-ups (free samples if you queue nicely), stay for the must-see K-beauty playgrounds: Olive Young N Seongsu, Amore Seongsu, WHIPPED House, Tamburins, fwee, Innisfree The Isle, and Torriden. Which stop are you hitting first?

For the full Seongsu guide with tips and directions, comment “SEONGSU” and I’ll send you the link.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this dessert cafe in Jeju. So often desserts in Korea look great but are overly sweet and not nearly as good as they look. So Much More was so much better.

The dessert here is a perfect balance, not overly sweet, just right, soft, delicious. They serve “cakes” that look like guksu (Korean noodle) creations as my husband said. We ordered the camellia version, inviting the winter blooms ahead, but they also have chestnut, matcha, and peanut creations.

The staff are super friendly. Tag this spot for your next Jeju adventure. Worth the stop.

Novelty Korean desserts -> Save this for later.

Released in 1986, this was one of the original food shapes desserts in Korea. Before those peach, mango, lemon, and strawberry-shaped sorbets hit the market, this existed.

Chal Oksusu (찰옥수수) has a corn shaped waffle filled with Korean sweet corn ice cream, pieces of corn, and chocolate. It’s definitely a unique and distinct flavor.

You can find it at convenience stores and markets around the country. Would you try it?

Jinjak Kakii is where to eat oysters in Seoul. -> Save this post for later.

Still thinking about these oysters… The biggest I’ve ever eaten, and right in the heart of Seoul. Fresh from Tongyeong, shucked to order, and so briny they tasted like the ocean itself.

Did you know South Korea is the second-largest oyster producer in the world after China and around 80% of Korean oysters come from Tongyeong, a coastal city on the southern coast?

If you’re looking for a foodie spot near Bukchon Hanok Village or Anguk Station, Jinjak Kakii is the kind of place you’ll want to bookmark for date night or a cozy dinner with friends. Dark, moody, and full of flavor.

Did you know that Korean red ginseng is amazing for energy, immunity, memory, and even fatigue recovery? It’s true, but much like those hanyak sachets that people love to share with their coworkers, it doesn’t taste amazing, maybe that’s just me. Drinking it straight is bitter and earthy, definitely an acquired taste.

In our house, I’ve watched and learned from my husband who mixes up hanyak drinks for me and my daughter. Don’t drink them straight, they taste much better when you: mix with warm water and add honey. I also like to add a bit of milk sometimes to make it creamier. Makes for a more natural pick-me-up in the morning.

Benefits include:

- Boosted immunity
- Antioxidant effects
- Improved blood circulation
- Better memory
- Fatigue recovery
- Support for women’s health

Follow thesoulofseoulblog for more honest takes on healthy living Korean style. ^^

I recently received a box of Taeguk Sagye Perilla Leaves Seasoning (태극사계 깻잎시즈닝) and tested it with some lab skewers we found at the market.

Made with six ingredients: Miryang perilla leaves, Uiseong six-clove garlic powder, Parmesan cheese, whole black pepper, almonds, and sea salt, its that bold taste of perilla with a nutty balance.

Also a fun aside, Taeguk Sagye buys “ugly” perilla leaves that can’t be used in the restaurants and markets directly from farmers and cuts down on waste while supporting local agriculture.

I decided to try it with lamb skewers. Usually lamb is paired with mint sauce, but since fresh mint is tough to find in Korea, I swapped it with this perilla seasoning. The result? A great alternative. Surprised I haven’t seen perilla seasoning before really.

Would you try perilla seasoning with lamb skewers?

Thank you taegeuk_sagye taegeuk_seasonlab

🚨 Viral Trend Alert 🚨

You’ve probably seen these fruit-shaped sorbets blowing up on social media… but have you tried them yet?!

In Korea, convenience store chains like GS25 and CU are selling their own versions of the viral frozen treats (though not from the original Hong Qi brand). Each one looks just like the fruit it’s shaped after, with a creamy sorbet inside and flavors like mango, peach, and lemon. At W4,900 each, they’ve already sold over a million since launch this summer!

Would you try one of these hyper-realistic sorbets? It’s both novelty and flavor.

If you already tried the three flavors above, it’s time to look again because now there’s a strawberry flavor too!
