- Did you know there is a piece of the Original World Trade Center subway station inside one of NYC’s newest stations? Underneath the original World Trade Center site was a subways station. When the twin towers fell, they destroyed five other World Trade Center site buildings, and the train station below. However, part of the train station was preserved and built into the Oculus! If you know where to find it, you’ll find a preserve wheelchair ramp, preserved signage, preserved stones, and then a door with orange spray paint. When Massachusetts Task Force 1 inspected the area after the events of 9/11. They left marking in orange spray paint which remain to this day. #nychistory #newyorkhistory #didyouknow #secretnyc #mysecretnyc #learnoninstagram #911memorial #neverforget #neverforget911 #nyc #worldtradecenter #welovenyc
- It’s nearly impossible to be in NYC in September and not think of the horrific events of September 11. Everything from the color of blue of the sky, to the way the light reflects off of buildings, to the temperature seems to evoke memories of that day. Any one who was alive can probably tell you exactly where they were when they heard the news. I was in college walking to take a shower in the dorms. Some people refer to the site as Ground Zero, but that’s not my preference. Ground Zero is a place where nothing grows, but the World Trade Center site has become a symbol of both remembrance and resilience. It has risen from the ashes like a phoenix, stronger than it was before. Fritz Koenig’s THE SPHERE used to stands between the original twin towers. It was damaged but not destroyed and now stands as a memorial to peace. The ultimate resilience would be the world at peace and the sphere being fix. Koenig sadly passed away, and it may feel we are further from peace than ever before, but I continue to hold out hope. Where is the Koenig Sphere? The Spherr by Fritz Koenig can be found at Liberty Park just south of the 9/11 Memorial. While there, also pay a visit to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. #nychistory #newyorkhistory #history #worldtradecenter #worldtradecentermemorial #911memorial #didyouknow #learnoninstagram #weremember #nyc
- This maybe is not so much “hidden” or “secret” as important and more people should know about it. If you follow me, you may already know about this special area of the 9/11 memorial. In fact, I received many requests to cover The Glade at the 9/11 memorial. I always love content suggestions so always feel free to send a request. The Glade is a newer addition to the 9/11 memorial. It commemorates thought who have passed away and those continuing to battle with 9/11 related illnesses remember when you visit to be respectful and don’t lean or sit on the monoliths. One thing that always haunts me about The Glade at the 9/11 memorial is how we will never know the true toll of those attacks. There were 2977 names added to the memorial, but the list continues to grow due the illnesses contracted and trauma of the events. We will never forget the brave heroes who risked and gave their lives that day so that others may survive. #nychistory #newyorkhistory #911memorial #worldtradecenter #neverforget #neverforget911 #didyouknow #learnoninstagram
