I hosted a Gilmore Girl’s inspired afternoon with my friends where we made these adorable magnets. Welcome back to my series, Crafternoon at thekwendyhome, where I make my friends and family try a new hobby of mine every month.
For this month, I wanted to host a fall themed crafting session. I think it was all the sunflowers and pumpkin themed everything I kept seeing at our grocery store that did it for me. I set up the kitchen to look like my version of Luke’s Diner.
And for the craft, we’re making polymer clay magnets! I found stamps that fit the fall theme with mugs, waffles, pumpkins and all things cozy. We had so much fun reimagining these stamps to fit the theme- spot the Harvard sweater as a nod to Rori and the coffee mug that looks like the Luke’s Diner logo.
They turned out so so cute and I had so much fun hosting this crafter noon. I am definitely revisiting this craft!

![There’s nothing more cozy than putting on a comfort show and making a classic bowl of tomato soup and a cheesy toastie. 🍅🥣
Here’s my recipe for tomato soup:
🍅Add 6 cups chopped tomatoes to a baking sheet (I like mixing up cherry tomatoes in the mix)
🧄Add a bulb of garlic, a large onion, chopped red pepper as well
🧂Toss in oil, salt and pepper to taste
👩🏻🍳Bake for 35 minutes
🍲Put everything in a pot and add 4 cups of chicken broth
🌶️Add paprika. sugar to taste and red chilil flakes for a kick
🔥Bring to boil and turn off heat
❤️Carefully use an immersion blender or let it cool and blend in a blender
🌿Top with some heavy cream and garnish with basil
🧀Best served with a toasted cheese sandwich!

You can craft these for even cheaper if you can score some jack-o’-lantern s at the thrift store!
Add some black paint with baking soda for your first coat for texture. Then go ahead and mix some brown paint to your black and baking soda mixture for dimension.
For the last layer, add two drops of yellow, red and green food colouring to baking soda with a splash of water. Sprinkle your baking soda onto your pumpkin and stipple on the baking soda slush you created.
Top it with a clear gloss to weather proof it, display and enjoy!

Me: Where’s my paint brush?
This DIY is easy but messy. I highly recommend laying down some parchment paper before you get started.
To keep costs low, try thrifting and collecting pumpkins first. Or up-cycle some pumpkins you have already. We’re going to give it that terracotta finish.
Mixing your paint with baking soda will give it texture and help the paint adhere to your pumpkin without any sanding. I did my base layer with black and then added some brown for a more dimensional look.
I’ve seen a lot of people sprinkle on the baking soda and rub it in or paint it on but I find that making it a paste with food coloring to create that light brown helps it make a bit more realistic. (I couldn’t find the DIYer who inspired this step, if you know please share so I can tag them!) then I sprinkled on the baking soda and stippled it in.
I’m basically layering on different colours and layers for more dimension. I find it looks best this way!
I sealed it with some clear gloss so it could withstand weather and to keep the pumpkin from chipping when in storage.

![Souptember has officially started and I am thrilled. I bought a cast iron cauldron and cooking has never been more magical.
Canadian friends, I found mine at a Costco. I heard that Home Goods and TJMaxx also carry it for my American pals. (And if you’ve found one, share where you got it in the comments below!)
As for the recipe, it was anything in my fridge. That’s the beauty of soup I think.
I sautéed a whole bulb of garlic in butter for a couple minutes (I love my aromatics) and put in my root veggies. This time it was carrots, celery and onions. Season with salt and pepper.
And then I threw in a rotisserie chicken. Let that sit for a few minutes and put in chopped yellow peppers, two chopped tomatoes, a small head of cabbage. Then sprinkle on some Italian spices. After they wilted I put in some chicken stock to fill just above the ingredients.
Bring it to a boil and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes. Then I took the chicken out and shredded it and set it aside.
When you’re ready to serve, and I think this is the trick to soups, sauté fresh garlic and veggies for about a minute. For this soup I did a zucchini, celery and another yellow pepper. I added my soup and shredded chicken back in and seasoned with salt and pepper to taste. I also added a sprig of rosemary because I had it in the garden.
I like to have some crunch in my veggies so this extra step is crucial to me.
Top it off with some fresh basil (again because I had it in my garden) and enjoy!
Honestly, you can make this soup with any veggies you have in your fridge! I think corn would taste great in this too! Happy Souptember!
