Added sugars aren’t addictive or ✨poison✨or anything like that. In fact, nutrition guidelines actually include space for added sugars in your day.

The takeaway here is NOT that there’s a certain amount of added sugar that’s “too much” - I don’t want you to worry about that.

What I do want you to take away is that, in quite literal terms, you can have your cake and eat it, too (real cake - not a protein-powder egg white stevia keto version).

Hoping this information can help start to quiet voices of guilt or shame around foods you love.

Looking for a dietitian to help heal your relationship with food? I’m starting to accept insurance, and you may be able to work with me for as little as $0 out of pocket.

We’ve all been here 🙋🏻‍♀️ Feeling the need to get something out of the house because you can’t control yourself around it, so the option is either throw it out or eat it, but you don’t want to waste it, right?

And you end up eating it all so it’s not there to tempt you tomorrow.

But then the guilt sets in. And you feel really full. And regretful. And you PROMISE that tomorrow will be better.

Be real with me for a sec 👀 – how many times have you made (and then broken) that promise to yourself?

I can tell you I did it a million times. No matter how many times I tried to be good or practice self-control I always failed.

But here’s the secret (not really a secret because I’ve told you this before, but it’s a secret that nobody else tells you) - you DON’T need to practice self-control. You don’t need to “keep food out of the house.”

What you do need is to reclaim your power and stop letting the food control you. I’ve helped so many incredible people do this successfully, and I would love to help you, too ❤️

🎉 AND I HAVE NEWS 🎉 I’m starting to accept insurance, and you may be able to work with me for as little as ZERO DOLLARS out of your pocket.

✨ Top: a poster that my friends got me for my 35th birthday (which is what was hanging alone on this wall before)
✨ Middle: the poster my parents made me for the nyrr Pride Run in June! 🌈 It’s from my favorite broadway show EVER (josephmusical) - the song “ Go Go Go Joseph” (Coley is what my family calls me)
✨ Bottom: (I just realized these are all posters haha) a customized poster from the semideparis that my family got me after I ran it this year in March 🥰

I love that the bottom two make it kind of a “running wall” and that the top two are both rainbow. I apparently also like, really enjoy putting together a gallery wall 🤓 2025-08-26 03:26:20 .. 55 -79% 4 -67%
So weird how that works, right?

Actually, it’s not.

It’s exposure. Habituation. It’s your brain’s neuroplasticity, which allows you to change the way you respond to food in ways you don’t think are possible.

What you fear will happen if you let yourself eat whatever you want is in fact what happens when you *try* to eat healthy, by following strict rules and promises to yourself to be good and stay on track.

The balance you want to achieve is *actually* what happens when you give yourself permission to eat all foods.

It does sound weird, I know. I didn’t believe it either. And my clients don’t until it finally shifts for them.

But it works 🩷 2025-08-22 09:31:42 So weird.. 74 -71% 1 -92%
What if you DIDN’T have to spend your whole life upholding an impossible bargain?

Look, of course it’s scary to not “uphold” our end of this unspoken bargain. Because it feels safer to uphold it. Safer to be in a body society that accepts. Safer to conform to what’s considered attractive.

And I’ll be honest - I feel this pressure too. Around youth, around attractiveness. No one is immune to this, and I’m certainly not “perfect” at letting it all go.

But I’m not saying it’s not as simple “fuck you” 🖕🏻to societal ideals and you’re suddenly living freely like you never absorbed decades of messaging. This shit is hard - and scary - to release.

But even just STARTING to challenge and question it? That’s huge. It’s the first step toward shifting behaviors, softening that internalized pressure.

And those small shifts are powerful. They’re how you begin to reclaim your time, energy, money, and emotions - all the things diet culture has convinced us we have to spend in order to be accepted.

🤝 You don’t have to do this alone. This is the exact work I support my clients with. If you’re ready to reclaim your energy from diet culture, let’s do this work together 🩷

The biggest misconceptions about “listening to your body” 👇
❌ You’ll only eat “junk”
❌ You’ll overeat all the time
❌ You’ll never crave fruits or vegetables

Here’s what actually happens when my clients learn to listen to their bodies:
✅ They reconnect with hunger & fullness cues
✅ They let go of food guilt and stop obsessing about what they eat
✅ They stop feeling out of control around “off-limits” foods
✅ They naturally start craving more variety, including nutritious foods
✅ They feel more at peace in their bodies

I’m a size-inclusive intuitive eating dietitian, and if you want to make peace with food and feel more at home in your body, I’d love to support you.

This thought came to me during my run tonight. Because all it took was hearing of one of my favorite songs, only 15 seconds into my run, for my mood to shift. And I was like, my run would not feel this good without the music.

So I couldn’t help but wonder… is it the run or the music?

I do think it’s both. And running is something I love now. But exercise doesn’t need to be a RUN. The benefits of movement aren’t only from traditional exercise.

If you’re just getting started with movement, trying to find a healthy relationship with movement that supports a positive relationship food and your body, or trying to find something that’s sustainable - doing something you ENJOY is going to way more effective than forcing something you don’t.

See what comes to mind if you think outside the box for what “counts” - like putting on your favorite music while you do stuff around the house, or thinking about the activities you like as a kid before “activity” became “exercise.” 2025-08-07 05:24:40 .. 91 -65% 5 -59%
Highlights from my recent trip to visit my sister 📸🧡

I majorly disconnect when I visit my family. My friends know I’m probably not going to respond to their text messages, I only schedule what’s necessary for work (clients & occasional meetings), and for better or for worse, I can’t help but step away from social media. I know that that’s a good thing! It’s just hard feeling the pressure as a contant creator to not feel like you’re doing something “wrong” by not posting, even to my stories.

But about halfway through the trip, I realized posting to my stories isn’t gonna happen and instead, I would share a recap here 🥰

Time with my delicious niece (with whom I happen to have 3 matching swimsuits), living golf cart life for a few days (while listening to country music or looking up at the stars on our drive home and getting all Pisces and introspective about it), amazing food, swimming in a LAKE (which I love and rarely get to do), and the type of laughter with my sister that actually made my back hurt in the best way.

 Hope you enjoyed the recap ☺️ 2025-08-01 00:33:14 .. 104 -60% 3 -76%
The number of times I overate just because it was a weekend 🙋🏻‍♀️ Even when I didn’t want the food but felt like I had to because it was the only chance I had to eat it before my diet or rules started again the next day.

I completely understand the feeling like you need to be strict with what you eat in order to feel in control. But think about it - is it really YOU who’s in control when you don’t feel like you can actually eat what you want most of the time and then feel totally OUT of control when you finally let yourself eat something you love?

Diets, food rules, & restrictions are an illusion of control. It’s only when you let go of ALL of that that you finally feel like you’re in control again - and by “in control,” I mean YOU’RE the one in the driver’s seat, not food:
💖 you stop obsessing about food all the time
💖 ice cream doesn’t turn into an all-day binge
💖 you can eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full if you want to

I you ever feel out of control around carbs (or any food you’ve tried to avoid), this is for you. The biggest misconception about dieting is that it’s all about willpower and discipline.

⚠️ This could not be FURTHER from the truth ⚠️

Your body has built-in mechanisms to keep you nourished & energized, and what feels like a lack of willpower when you’re dieting or following food rules is literally your body doing its job.

The best way to no longer feel out of control around food to stop restricting it. But I know that feels scary to do on your own.

So I’d love to offer you the support and guidance that’s necessary to help you eat what you want (without feeling out of control!), end your obsession and constant thoughts about food, and finally live your life freely without food guilt ❤️‍🔥

Do you feel like you need to eat differently around your mother-in-law? Both mothers and MILs are quite the top of the conversation with my clients.

And it’s understandably a tricky dynamic to navigate. But it can be really helpful to remember - it’s not actually about you. It’s probably her own internalized stuff about her own body (or her own mom!) that she hasn’t worked through.

So - what would it be like to give the looks or the comments less power? To listen to your body, take another serving, order the pasta instead of the salad. It might not be as bad as you think, and it could be the first step towards breaking this pattern that happens whenever she’s around (and leading to less anxiety - at least about one thing! - the next time you’re together).

Helping my clients listen to their bodies with CONFIDENCE and eat foods the love without guilt are my favorites parts of my work. I have helped so many people achieve this, and I’d love to help you, too.

Brands I’ll never work with.

And you have to love - “Hi Nicole, we love what you’re about and think you’d really like this product!” when they clearly have no idea what I’m about, or don’t actually care.

I work with brands who:
✨ don’t use morality-based language to describe their product - “clean” ingredients, “guilt-free”, ingredients “you can feel good about” (because there aren’t ingredients you should feel bad about eating)
✨ show size diversity on their website
don’t use weight loss as a motivator to buy their product
✨ support meaningful initiatives (e.g., mental health, eating disorder awareness)
✨ celebrate food for the joy and connection that it brings us

And if a brand is open to learning, I also offer consulting to help align messaging with a non-diet, body-neutral, intuitive eating approach.

I support companies that want to create a world where all bodies are valued and food isn’t a moral issue 💖

If your brand shares these values - or you want to rethink your messaging - reach out. I’d love to collaborate. 2025-07-18 03:59:52 .. 62 -76% 4 -67%
It hit me the other night. I thought to myself: “If someone had told me when I was in my kitchen in the middle of the night binging on sweets that over 10 years later, I would be standing in the kitchen at the same exact time calmly cutting up vegetables for a salad, I’d have laughed in their face.”

I felt so out of control. I felt hopeless.

I kept thinking that all I had to do was be “strict,” find a new plan, “start over,” be “good.” I made ALL sorts of promises to myself that I kept breaking, and I thought it was my fault.

I didn’t know that what I actually needed to do was STOP trying to control what I ate. Ultimately, that was the only way out.

I worked with a dietitian in order to do this, and she completely changed my life. I don’t think I would’ve been able to do this alone. It would have felt too hard. I would have gotten scared, given up, and stayed right where I was.

If you feel out of control, feel like you can’t trust yourself around food, and just wish you could listen to your body (oh how badly I wanted to listen to my body and never thought I’d be able to!), I’d love to support you and help you find the freedom and balance you’ve been wanting for so long.

If your mind tends to race or spin and it’s hard to slow down, backwards writing like what’s above helped me pause and focus on just one thing for a few moments - very rare for me! 😂 But I know I’m not alone in that, so I wanted to share it with you ❤️ Curious what you think!!

And if that felt more like a headache than a mindfulness exercise haha, here’s what it says:

The other day, I passed writing on the sidewalk written like this. I stopped to read it. I liked it and found that it was a great mindfulness and grounding exercise. For someone whose mind is always spinning, it felt good to have one sole thing to concentrate on — to let all the other thoughts quiet for a couple of minutes. For anyone else whose mind has a hard time being still and in the present moment, I wanted to share this with you.

Here’s the thing - it doesn’t need to feel complicated forever. Until working with a dietitian or therapist to heal their relationship with food, almost everyone has some work to be done to get to a place that feels uncomplicated and free.

Unfortunately, at baseline, the way that our society talks about food is disordered. So unless you’ve done this work, of course food feels complicated!

The tools that you have right now are the ones that you’ve learned from your own lived experience – from childhood until now, plus all of the unhelpful messaging from the world that we live in. If things feel hard, please cut yourself some slack and give yourself some grace 💗

If you do want to learn tools that you can use - for life - to make food feel less complicated, I’d love to be there for you.

When I was trying to ✨eat clean✨, I tried to avoid sweets, fried foods, pizza - anything I didn’t consider “super healthy.”

But just because I tried to avoid those foods doesn’t mean I didn’t eat them. I did, quite often, and each time I end up b1nging and/or feeling out of control.

It was only when I:
✨ stopped making these promises to myself
✨ stopped trying to avoid these foods
✨ and started allowing them

… that I stopped feeling out of control around them.

It sounds counterintuitive, and it’s really hard to believe, but the control that you’re trying to exert is the very reason that you’re feeling out of control. It’s a scary step to take, but anyone who does it is ultimately blown away.

It happened to me, and it happens with my clients, it’s such an incredible feeling when they no longer feel like food has the power.

This is your nudge to consider taking that step when you feel ready - I have faith in you 💖 2025-06-21 07:13:45 .. 94 -64% 1 -92%
Filling you in 🧡

One thing I didn’t say above is that I feel like I’ve become disconnected from what I used to love about posting.

What’s trending, the algorithm, reach and engagement – the ✨numbers✨ started to pull me away from what felt creative and intuitive.

And we all know what happens when you start to let numbers run the show 😉 Just like you become disconnected from your body when you chase a number on the scale and aren’t satisfied no matter what the number says, I feel like I’ve started to let this aspect of Instagram get in the way of what I’ve come to think of as “intuitive posting.”

Similarly, perfectionism holds me back, wanting stories or posts to be ✨just right✨, especially since I’ve posted less frequently.

So again, I want to connect with you more like I used to. For those of you who are still following along (and who have made it this far in the post haha) thank you and I am so glad you are here 💕

I went to my doctor one day because I’d been feeling lightheaded, and the recommendation I remember getting was to eat more sodium. I gladly did, because I had been eating as little as I could, so I was happy to be told I *should* eat more in order to feel better.

At one of my annual visits, I don’t remember exactly how it came up - we were probably discussing my weight, vitals, etc. - I do remember him saying “Just don’t lose any more weight.”

And that was it.

I also went to a GI doctor for constipation and was given a list of foods with fiber and sent on my merry way. In hindsight, I realize the reason I was constipated is likely that I wasn’t eating enough starchy carbs and didn’t realize that by cutting carbs, I was cutting fiber, too.

At minimum with my PCP, there was a big missed opportunity for him to check in and ask more questions. To see what was really going on with me.

I’m aware that being in a thin body, I have the privilege of going to the doctor without the fear that they’re going to comment on my weight and ignore everything else. I’m also lucky that I remained medically stable throughout my orthor€xia and that it didn’t develop into something more serious.

But because weight loss is so often praised above anything else, warning signs of disordered eating can be overlooked, which can delay someone getting the support they need early on. This is especially likely for people in larger bodies who are praised for losing weight, but are actually struggling.

🩷 Share or send this post to raise awareness about how healthcare can better create space for interventions that truly support people’s well-being. 2025-06-05 08:16:33 .. 129 -50% 2 -84%
The amount of peanut butter in this is something that would’ve scared the shit out of me over a decade ago.

But it’s also what makes this smoothie actually filling and SUPER delicious (recipe is below).

Every time I put like, heaping spoonfuls of PB into this I’m like, “This is so much better than measuring ✨2 Tbsp✨ so I can track the calories and avoid making it too so ✨calorie dense✨”

🙄

Please know if this is something you’re doing, that eye roll isn’t at YOU 💕 It’s at the diet industry and wellness culture for brainwashing us all into thinking that’s what we need to do.

It’s hard to believe, but eating is SO much better when you don’t try to control it. It’s scary at first, but with time, feels infinitely more enjoyable. You feel FREE.

Your Memorial Day game plan ☺️🍉
So you can feel good during AND after the weekend, with no binges, no regrets, and no crash dieting on Tuesday.

Use this anytime food is a big focus - BBQs, birthdays, holidays - so you don’t walk away feeling out of control, overly full, or like you “blew it.”

1️⃣ Taste it all
You don’t need to say “Sorry, I shouldn’t…” to foods you love. Start by trying some bites of what looks good to avoid that deprived, missing-out feeling & figure out what you like. Then go back for the things that spoke to you.

2️⃣ F*ck FOMO
When you think “When will I get to eat this again?” you’re way more likely to go into Last Supper mode.
‼️Reminder‼️ You can have burgers, cupcakes, and cookies again. Make a mental note of what looks good but isn’t doing it for you right now, and plan them for later. It’s kind of like insurance, creating some security in the fact that you’ll be able to have them another time.

3️⃣ Don’t plan your next crash
Telling yourself, “It’s fine, I’ll just start over Tuesday,” disconnects you from your body NOW. You’re more likely to overeat when there’s a plan to “undo” it later.

✔️ Save this post as a guide, send it to a friend who needs it, and enjoy the hell out of your meals this weekend.

*

❤️ A special note of remembrance, and gratitude to those who have served and to the families who have sacrificed so much. Thank you. 2025-05-25 20:48:00 .. 58 -78% 0 -100%
Yesterday was meh. I was overwhelmed and feeling down. After trying to disconnect with a book, I had a craving for cookies. I could tell by the way I hopped from distraction to another, and by the way I was eating them, that it was emotional hunger more than anything else.

But - it was nothing like the way I used to eat emotionally. When I was restricting, emotional eating was the main way that I dealt with most uncomfortable feelings. While yesterday was only 1 or 2 “too many” cookies, in the past it would be a whole sleeve and maybe then some.

Yesterday, even the couple extra cookies felt like a little too much, I was STILL stressed and overwhelmed, and the physical unpleasantness did not help.

You’ve heard me say a hundred times that emotional eating can be one of many ways to deal with negative emotions, but that it’s best done when you’re connected to both the food and your body, letting the food comfort you 💗 Dissociating and numbing out rarely helps, and that’s typically when it leads to feeling even worse after.

If emotional or b1nge eating is something that you deal with and are ready to change, I would love to help 🩷

Healing your gut with positive vibes and $90 jars of raw colostrum 🫠

There’s so much misinformation out there. Unfounded claims, horrifying trends (coffee enemas?!! ☕️💩), and advice that sounds (and is) too good to be true.

If you’re thinking about cutting out entire food groups (without medical reason) or buying yet another pricey supplement that probably isn’t life-changing… consider reaching out to a non-diet dietitian.

Someone who understands the science, offers support without judgment, and helps you feel better in your body without spiraling into restriction or anxiety.
