Udaipur - For less crowded options, consider staying in the Aravali Hills (45 mins from city), Jawai area, Kumbhalgarh, or Chittorgarh. 2. Karnataka (Not Kerala): - Mulki: Known for homestays, hostels, and surf schools. Heavy rains, so the beach may not be accessible, but the greenery is beautiful. - Bekkal: Consider staying at properties like Lalit and Taj (note: these may be expensive). Other options include Coorg, Coonoor, Chikmangalur though they might also be pricey during these dates. 3. Goa: - Despite the monsoon, Goa can be great if you choose a nice Airbnb in offbeat locations, such as the rice terraces or the middle part of Goa near lakes and rivers. South Goa is also a good option with well-priced hotel rates. 4. Delhi and Agra: - Delhi tends to empty out as people head to Himachal. Great for shopping, eating, and sightseeing. Avoid Agra on 15th August due to crowds and security checks at the Red Fort parade in Delhi. 5. Maharashtra: - Bhandardara: Near Igatpuri, beautiful waterfalls. MTDC offers affordable cottages. - Nashik: Consider offbeat properties like Grape County or Viveda Wellness to avoid crowds at popular spots like Sula. 6. Shillong and Meghalaya: - Beautiful during heavy rainfall. Consider visiting for an offbeat experience. Additional Tips: - Avoid Kashmir on 15th August due to security checks and crowds. - Leh Ladakh is also very crowded during this period. - For more offbeat options, consider Pushkar or other parts of Rajasthan. - For treks, be mindful of traffic jams. This was my first ever collaboration trip when I was just 20! It was HUGE and almost tough to believe. I remember telling my parents, and my dad was so elated because Ladakh was always on our list. We went to Zara to shop for cold-weather outfits, and I quickly applied for leave while I was interning. The red pant, the green jacket, the black leather jacket, the boots 🥾, the stole - ALL PICKED BY DAD ! I met some amazing people, although it was a little intimidating at first since most of them were journalists from Times of India to Outlook Traveller. But what a trip that was! I didn’t record many videos, and in fact, this is the ONLY content I have left because I lost my phone and have no footage from my CA days or anything before five years ago. I stumbled upon these pictures as I used to write detailed blogs on WordPress about travel tips and planning. It used to be simple and straightforward. The hotel and arrangements weren’t the best, and the event we were called for wasn’t well-organized. Until the last minute, I was thinking, “I hope this isn’t a scam!” But wow, looking back, I realize how amazing it was. My parents didn’t even question it; they were all in and so excited (of course, they had all the details and numbers). Those were the best five days of meeting new people! Episode 8: Udaipur Unwrapped 🎁 First, follow theglocaljournal. Udaipur offers a variety of markets, and I explored them all: 1. Haathipole Market: Although it’s often listed as a handicrafts market online, it’s now primarily a cloth market. Set your GPS location to “Cotton Crazy” to find it. Directly opposite is a store selling embroidered juttis for ₹1000-₹1200 (without bargaining). Short cotton kurtas are available for ₹250 each and are really nice. You can also find men’s printed shirts ! 2. Bada Bazaar and Malda’s Cloth Market: I visited these markets but didn’t find them particularly impressive. 3. City Palace Area: The items here are very expensive and reminiscent of Goa. However, you might still find something worthwhile like bangles. In Udaipur, you’ll find a lot of fabric but not many ready-made garments. For oxidized jewelry, the areas around Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar are good, but Jaisalmer, especially near Gadisar Lake, is even better. Honestly, Jaipur and Jaisalmer offer a much better shopping experience. When I asked vendors in Udaipur, they mentioned sourcing their items from Jaipur. They have all cuisines 🚙 To be honest, most cafes and restaurants in Udaipur feature candlelight dining with great rooftops or lake views, exuding a royal feel. It’s gorgeous, and the best part is, these candlelight settings are budget-friendly, so you won’t need to splurge for special proposals! I have provided icons 🛺🚙 to mention accessibility. Due to a lot of construction, old city is majorly accessible by 🛺 rickshaw and cabs do not go there! Episode 6: Details 👇🏽 • Bahubali Hills: It is a 20-minute drive from Udaipur. • The entry fee is ₹10. • It’s open 24/7. • We began our journey at 6 a.m. and reached by 6:15 a.m. • It’s really nice, but people have littered 😭. • Also, you will find Maggi and water at the top! Now, here are 2 tips for you: • Everyone recommends this for sunset, but I suggest you go for sunrise! The golden hour is beautiful and it’s relatively less crowded. • Second tip: I loved chilling at Badi Lake (the lake you see from the top). You can drive around a little and find a good spot. It’s really nice to sit by the lake and just chill in your car. If you want to do this, then yes, sunset is the best time. Episode 5: Details👇🏽 • How to reach Jawai? You can get a taxi at the airport or, better yet, arrange it through your hotel. • I stayed at Cheetagarh by ITC Welcom Hotels—they arranged my safari. (If you do happen to stay here: ask for Sanjay naturalist and driver Mr Ramesh) • Yes, it’s open during the monsoon season, but sightings are less frequent. • Please note that leopards are excellent at camouflaging, so they are tough to spot and are very shy creatures. I got lucky, but sightings are not up close. They are usually far away. • What made me LOVE JAWAI is the landscape! The entire town has granite rocks, which makes it INSANE 🤯 with Jawai Dam and more. • In terms of costing, it really depends as there are no government safaris or zones. • Please book with a trusted property, as I have seen how roughly some of the drivers drive and will do anything for sightings. • Let wildlife be in their habitat. Do not go close or use flashlights. • One safari vehicle accommodates 5-6people! • Yes, take a meal-inclusive property as there is nothing around. • Best time to visit is November end to March start, however it is very expensive. Episode 4: Details 👇🏽 Best sunset in Udaipur: I would always say Lake Fatehsagar 🥰! I love it as it’s so peaceful and nice. Do follow theglocaljournal and watch our previous episodes 🥺 • I prefer it over Lake Pichola as you can easily walk, drive, or even better, ride a bike 🚲. • It’s a car-free zone from 6 am to 8 am, and you can find cycles right by the lake. • By the lake, you have the famous Sai cold coffee, though I find it sweet. • There are speed boats available too! • I suggest you walk a little ahead from all the restaurants for peaceful spots. • Hotel Lakend is great for staying and also for a meal. • 1559 AD is also a heritage villa, great for dinner. Episode 3: Details 👇🏽 - Monsoon is the off-season in Udaipur, but the weather is quite good with occasional rains. June is the best time to visit as prices are lower. When I went, I got it for ₹24,000 including taxes (some luck). Right now it is ₹37,000. - In case you don’t wish to stay, you can grab dinner at Chandni Restaurant, though reservations are mandatory. I recommend Leela Palace Lake View for dinner. All luxury hotels are available at a lower cost. (Dates checked on 23rd June on MakeMyTrip for 09-10 July for 2 pax, including taxes). Some of my favorites are: 1. Leela Palace Udaipur - ₹32,000 a night (I prefer the dining there the most, and the hotel is too pretty! Most rooms are lake-facing. I loved it!) 2. Taj Lake Palace - ₹31,000 (between the lake) 3. Taj Fateh Prakash Palace - ₹19,000 a night (an extension of City Palace Hotel) 4. Taj Aravali Hills - (46 mins from Udaipur; in the hills) 5. Aurika Udaipur - ₹20,000 a night (a new property, very pretty) 6. Chunda Palace - ₹8,000 a night (a heritage boutique property I personally loved) Moving onto Fateh Sagar Lake side: 1. Hotel Lakend - ₹8,000 a night (great stay!) 2. I don’t recommend Lalit as it’s not exactly lake view and is just okay. Other recommendations: 1. Raffles Udaipur - ₹28,000 2. Shiv Niwas Palace by HRH - ₹13,000 a night The best part about Udaipur is that even boutique hotels feel like royalty and they are very affordable! *please note that the prices may vary as per season and none of the above is hosted or in any collaboration with any property / portal. It’s Here!!!! 🥺 Episode 1: Udaipur Unwrapped 🎁 After procrastinating for days, I finally posted—THE YJHD IN ME IS SCREAMING!!!! Here’s a little backstory: 1. Recreating scenes was tough as a lot of places had different frames. For example, at City Palace, one scene was restricted from shooting, and another had construction going on. I wanted to show you the place. 2. I didn’t want to do dialogue delivery as I don’t think I can do justice to the epic scenes. 3. It was a very tough day with 40-degree heat, making it extremely challenging to shoot. Huge shoutout to my team: • Mom, who endured an 18-hour shoot day with me 🥺 • My driver uncle, who drove us all around • Best man mehuljain_photography, who somehow managed to give a great output despite the heat! Besides the lavender fields, make sure to take the cable car here. Shahdag also has a cable car, but you can enjoy the roller coaster in Shahdag and the cable car in Gabala! Udaipur is the most romantic and beautiful city in India! 🇮🇳 This is my third visit, and this time I had only one agenda: revisit the same places, no new ones! I never thought I’d say this, but time is so limited. Usually, I don’t return to a place because I’m always eager to see something new. However, there’s such joy in revisiting familiar spots. Price Details 👇🏽 - chunda_palace is a boutique luxury hotel with art in every corner. Pricing varies by season, but JUNE IS A BEAUTIFUL time to visit Udaipur. I’ve visited for three consecutive years, and prices for luxury hotels are super low during this month. Currently, this hotel costs ₹7000 per night, compared to ₹30,000-40,000 per night in December. The best part is that every room is different and vintage. - The suite shown in the reel costs more. - Their rooftop restaurant at night is SUCH A VIBE 💕 - Chunda Palace is particularly known for weddings! - Their Rajasthani food is SO GOOD. The recipes are passed down from royalty! Even their other cuisines, like Italian and Chinese, are excellent! And the staff is so kind! - My initial plan was to stay here for 2 nights and move to another hotel for one night, but I loved it so much that I stayed an extra night. - It is so peaceful! - If you are looking for a more affordable option, they have opened Chunda Haveli, which is currently around ₹3000 per night!
