One of my favorite ways to connect with my students and families before school begins is with a Meet the Teacher Letter!

Every year, parents tell me how excited their child was to receive it and how much fun they had learning more about me. I also encourage the kids to send me letters about THEM before school begins.

If you’re looking for a simple way to start building relationships, you can find this template in my store for only $2! Click the link in my bio or drop your favorite emoji and I’ll send you the link 🩷 2023-07-09 03:41:04 One of my favorite.. 0 -100% 23 -42%

Hey friends! 🤍

Just stopping by to say that I’m still alive and still very much a part of this space. This school year has been tough and I’ve had so much going on both at and outside of work, so this account has taken a backseat.

I’m excited to be back to regularly posting and engaging and spilling my teaching heart out to strangers all over the internet. 🤣 How are YOU doing?

P.S. Photo is courtesy of my amazing husband and will be used for an upcoming project I’m excited to share. Stay tuned! 2023-01-24 04:29:54 Hey friends.. 0 -100% 80 +101%

This week fifth grade honored the many who lost their lives in the tragic events of September 11th. This project is a favorite of mine.

❤️ First, the students create and paint an American flag background.

❤️ They add words that describe heroes to each white stripe.

❤️ They research men, women, and service animals who demonstrated bravery and write a short paragraph about them as well as find a photo of them to add to their project.

❤️ Using black construction paper, they create tower silhouettes and any other details they would like to add.

They always turn out so beautiful and are a great way to encourage students to remember the helpers and the good in our world in the midst of such great tragedy.

We will never forget! ❤️ 2022-09-17 05:58:00 This .. 0 -100% 19 -52%

Raise your hand if you’re happy that it’s summer! 🙋🏼‍♀️

In all of my years of teaching, this has been the hardest by far…for so many reasons. Through it all though, I still love my job.

Had to share a fun video with clips from our Open House last month. 😍 I am proud of all we accomplished in such a difficult time.

Now, tell me what YOU’RE up to this summer!

Totally obsessed with the way our Wonder portraits turned out! 😍

My class loved designing these almost as much as they loved the book! We used sharpies on 8x10 canvases to draw everything out and used watercolors to create the tie dye effect. (Blur under the eye is to cover student’s name)

Such a great keepsake piece for their family too ❤️ 2022-04-06 04:22:10 Totally obsessed.. 0 -100% 50 +26%
Never ever getting back together…like…ever 💔

I decided to take advantage of my fifth graders’ spring fever and make the intro to our discussion of the Declaration of Independence a little more interesting. 💭

I had another teacher come into our room and bring me a crumpled up note , telling me in front of the class that I needed to look at it right away. After reading it to myself and reacting dramatically, I let the class know that I had found a break up letter and asked if I should read it to them (slide through to see). Of course, they were excited to hear the gossip. 💁🏼‍♀️

Turns out, it was a break up letter written to King George III from the colonists. The students then had the opportunity to write their own break up letter, declaring their independence from King George’s tyranny.

This was such a fun activity and a great way to get the kids invested in the discussion. They absolutely loved writing the letters and they are hysterical! 🇺🇸 2022-04-05 04:24:38 .. 0 -100% 31 -22%

Tips to leave work on time:

1️⃣ Begin the day with the end in mind. When you get to your classroom each morning, make a realistic to do list or schedule for your day to help you stay on track. I write mine on a post-it and stick it on my computer screen.

2️⃣ Stay away from your phone as much as you can. This one is hard! I think we all have a tendency to grab our phones as soon as the kids walk out for lunch but it can take up so much time. When checking emails, decide what can wait and what is urgent.

3️⃣ Do not grade everything. No seriously. Don’t. Grade what matters - proof of mastery should be the main focus. It’s okay for some work to simply be practice!

4️⃣ Use classroom transition time wisely. While your students are cleaning up, packing up, etc. is a great time to quickly organize your desk or gather your own things. If you have older students, allow them to help with tasks whenever appropriate.

5️⃣ Be okay with leaving some things for tomorrow. You will never have everything done, but you can finish what’s most important! Sometimes you just have to leave.

Teaching is an incredibly demanding job that requires a lot of our time. There is no way that you can completely avoid taking work home or staying late sometimes. And there is no one size fits all. You are a great teacher and should do what works best for YOU! ❤️ 2022-02-15 06:34:42 .. 201 +123% 25 -37%

PSA: Play is not just for little kids!

Giving our older students opportunities to learn and think through play fosters independence, creative problem-solving, and perseverance.

Not to mention the fact that research proves how play directly addresses an older child’s need for greater independence and ownership of their learning.

There are so many simple ways to incorporate play into the classroom while still meeting every academic standard. Let me know if you need ideas! This is a subject I’m passionate about!

Play creates a more joyful classroom environment and my favorite part…it keeps the love for learning alive. 🤍 2022-01-15 03:09:13 PSA: Play is not.. 304 +238% 67 +68%
