Tretinoin really is a vibe. I can’t stress this product enough. Whether you struggle with fine lines, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, fine lines or mild acne scars, Tretinoin helps absorb deeper into the skin to really speed up cell turnover rates and reveal brighter and smoother skin.

Keep in mind you can get Tretinoin by prescription.

If your skin is sensitive, make sure you do a patch test first. Always apply Tretinoin only at night since it causes sun sensitivity. Follow up with a moisturizer to protect skin and SPF everyday in the morning.

You don’t need to overcomplicate your skin routine with multiple ingredients. 😉

Have you ever tried Tretinoin? What are your thoughts?

Scary skincare you should avoid and why 👻

💾 But first, save and share this post if you found it useful!

1. Dermaroller: Potentially scary because improper use can lead to skin damage and infection.

2. At home Dermaplaning: Can be risky as it involves using a sharp blade on your face, increasing the risk of cuts and irritation.

3. Nose strips: Can be irritating to skin barrier, as they may worsen pore congestion and irritate the skin.

4. DIY skincare: Can be scary if ingredients are not properly measured or mixed, potentially causing adverse reactions.

5. Pore vacuums: Scary due to the risk of bruising, broken capillaries, and skin damage if not used correctly.

6. Cleansing brushes: Can be harsh on skin when used too aggressively, causing micro-tears in the skin.

Which are you guilty of using? Don’t worry, we all been there 😩.

Did you know that expired products can be a skin irritant? 🗓️ Let’s talk about why you should ditch your expired products ASAP…

Expiration dates on cosmetics are there to help consumers know when a product should no longer be used. Using the product last it’s expiration date is a big no-no.

🚫Expired skincare products 🧪 can cause changes to the formula, which makes it less effective. Because of the change in a product’s pH, using an expired product can potentially cause skin irritation, and even a burning sensation. When your skincare routine looks like a museum of expired products, it's time for a fresh start!

Benzoyl peroxide vs salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is best for oily or combination skin with whiteheads/blackheads. Meanwhile, glycolic acid is great for most skin types, especially dry, dull or hyperpigmentation.⁣
⁣
Salicylic acid absorbs deeper into the pores than glycolic acid, which makes it an effective comedone treatment.

Benzoyl peroxide is an antibacterial agent which makes it ideal for inflamed acne such as pustules and papules. Have you ever tried benzoyl peroxide before? Benzoyl peroxide is a common antibacterial topical used to treat mild to moderate acne. It comes in strengths of 2.5%, 5%, and 10%. ⁣
⁣
⁣
Since benzoyl peroxide can cause dryness and peeling of the skin, it's best to start with a smaller percentage and slowly work your way up if your skin tolerates it well. Benzoyl peroxide can cause skin purging in the beginning of use, but no need to worry. It is helping to unclog dead skin and kill excess bacteria in the skin so you may notice an increase in breakouts in the beginning stage of use. ⁣
⁣
As always, it's important to use a good moisturizer after applying benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to minimize irritation and redness. Also make sure you use sunscreen as this active ingredient can increase sun sensitivity. ⁣

Avoid using exfoliants like acids or a retinoid right before you plan on having sun exposure. Exfoliants make skin more sensitive to the sun and cause possible side effects such as redness, peeling, or worsening of pigmentation. Keep in mind, exfoliants remove the top layer of skin which makes it more vulnerable to sun damage or inflammation even if you apply sunscreen.

Applying an exfoliant in the evening helps minimize skin irritation that can happen as a result of UV rays. Yes sunscreen should be applied regardless, however for those with sensitive skin sunscreen may not be enough protection in case you don’t reapply it every two hours being in the sun. Always do what works best for you this is just my personal opinion! .

Some skincare ingredients may clog pores and cause breakouts. It's best to check the ingredients list and avoid products that contain known irritants or allergens. You can also try switching to non-comedogenic or oil-free products.

Some skincare ingredients that can trigger breakouts on the face include:

❌Comedogenic ingredients: These are ingredients that can clog pores and lead to acne. Examples include coconut oil, cocoa butter, and some types of silicones.

❌Fragrance: Fragrances can cause skin irritation and inflammation, which can lead to breakouts.

❌Alcohol: Alcohol can be very drying to the skin, which can cause it to produce more oil and lead to acne.

❌Harsh exfoliants: Over-exfoliating or using harsh scrubs can damage the skin's barrier and cause breakouts.

❌Certain oils: Some oils, like olive oil and avocado oil, are high in oleic acid which can be comedogenic for some people. It's important to patch test and see how your skin reacts to different oils.

Try eliminating the product you think is causing your breakouts for a minimum of a few weeks to see if your skin clears up. If the issue persists, consider consulting with an esthetician or dermatologist. Which ingredient causes your breakouts?

Skincare tips to follow for glowier skin.

1. Wash hands before cleansing skin in order to prevent the transfer of bacteria to skin.
2. Double cleanse nightly to thoroughly ensure all traces of spf, environmental contaminants, oil and makeup are removed.
3. Apply a suitable spf for your skin type everyday to prevent sunspots.
4. Use a clean paper towel instead of a washcloth to gently pat dry skin instead of a washcloth that can be too harsh on skin/or transfer bacteria.
5. Don’t let the serum dropper touch your skin to also avoid transfer of bacteria. Instead apply a few drops of serum into your palms and pat it into skin.
6. Treat your neck as an extension of your face. The neck has very delicate skin and is prone to showing first signs of aging along with eye area.

When it comes to apply hyaluronic acid, there are a few things to note in order to get the most out of your serum.

First, apply HA to damp not dry skin. Then apply a moisturizer afterwards to help lock in the hydration from the serum and provide additional moisture to the skin. The moisturizer creates a protective barrier on the skin to prevent moisture loss and keep the skin feeling soft and smooth.

Do this not that…acne edition

-Avoid pore/nose strips to attempt to treat blackheads. These can damage skin barrier therefore instead use a chemical exfoliant which can gently unclog pores and treat acne such as salicylic acid.

-Avoid using hot/cold water to cleanse skin. Instead use warm water.

-Avoid using thicker eye creams and moisturizer around the eye area if you’re prone to Milia. Instead use an eye gel specifically made for the eye area since these tend to be more gentle and don’t contain pore clogging ingredients.

-Spot treat acne-prone areas to prevent new breakouts. If you only spot treat current breakouts you won’t be preventing new ones on other areas of your face from forming.

-Apply hyaluronic acid to damp skin to seal in the hydration. Applying it to damp skin will help prevent moisture loss and keep your skin plump.

•Glycolic acid-best for all skin types but sensitive skin should use with caution.

•Vitamin C is helpful for all skin types but may be irritating for sensitive skin.

•Retinol is best for mature, oily or acneic skin.

•Niacinamide is safe for all skin types.

It's no secret that dark spots, acne, or fine lines are a major problem for the skin. They're caused by different factors such as collagen loss, sun exposure and aging. The right serum will target these issues and improve your complexion in the long term.

Serums consist of small molecules which absorb deep into the skin to target specific types of skin issues. It's important to apply serums before moisturizer and layer them from thinnest to thickest consistency. Last, don't layer potent actives like retinol and glycolic acid at the same time of the day.

Winter is here and so many of us feel like our skin is super dry. Luckily there are ways to solve this issue.

Since the air is dry indoors with heaters running all day, and there is lack of humidity outside, our skin needs extra moisture. When skin is dry it tends to look dull and you may notice more peeling and redness of your skin.

Follow these tips mentioned in the chart to help protect skin barrier and keep skin hydrated all winter long. Other tips you can follow is use a humidifier, avoid hot showers and harsh ingredients that will dry skin out more like sulfates, dyes and fragrances. Instead applying an AHA 1-3x a week to exfoliate skin and hydrate it simultaneously.
