A calm, steady love.
One that was built with two people not ready for any of it, but choosing to try for it all.
A lot of unexpected chapters navigated with a deep friendship beneath all the chaos that has carried us for the last 7 years.
In many ways, I’m not the same person he married. I’m not sure he’s the same either.
What a gift to continue to expand and grow and support each other within that.
He’s my best friend.
And 7 years of taking a chance on each other has been really, really lovely.

![A few years ago I made a decision to say yes to more things. Conditions were - it had to be things I really wanted to do and I couldn’t allow how I felt about my body to be the driver in my yes or no.
So I did a shoot for an art exhibit in Joshua Tree.
A nude body painting in NY.
I walked a dream runway in a string bikini.
I shot an underwear campaign for Times Square.
Took myself to a broadway show. Alone.
+ A million tiny yesses more.
I need you to know at no point did I think my body or I was “good” or “ready”. It just couldn’t be a factor in the decisions.
So let me tell you what it taught me.
•That the regrets I’ve held in life have yet to be for the things that I said yes to, and almost always for the times I sidelined myself, using my body as a measurement for permission of these joys and opportunities.
•Bodies ebb and flow. Yesses and No’s don’t have to ebb and flow with them.
•Doing things scared is an act of confidence.
•The opinions of others will always be there. Listen and hold onto the right ones. The rest really do just pass you by.
•Doing it for your 80 year old self and her stories is sometimes the best push to honour your current self.
•“I’ll do it when I’m ready” for me, means never doing it. I never really feel ready.
The moments that have changed me the most and the way I feel about myself are rarely comfortable moments. They are somewhere in the in-between. Discomfort, excitement, want, fear, all of it. They are all present. They are all changing me.
I think the most confident people I’ve met feel a lot of the same things. They just keep making choices again and again…to do it anyway.
I want you to know it’s never been just about me and my life. I’ve always thought about you, too. That if I could speak these words of bravery and confidence, I could also show you. With knees shaking, time and time again, I hope I have.
Because it’s been hella worth it saying yes, more.]()

So essentially her message was - you’re no longer in your hot period, time to move on.
Reducing my existence as a woman, to a level of hotness.
Which is so wild. Because as a teen I was wearing tshirts and board shorts swimming, if I even showed up at all. In my 20s I was wearing as much possible to hide my body, if I even showed up at all. Were those the “dog days”?
I didn’t spend the last 10+ years figuring out that there’s more to life than hotness while also acknowledging the hotness scale is being all too determined by some crusty dusty boys.
So Barbara, I’m sorry for what the world has taught you to believe. That you’re only worthy of the things when you’re hot enough. I hope you see that before it’s too late.
As for me, the dog days are never done.
I think they may still be just beginning.
And for us all?
A reminder that this comment didn’t come from someone on a beach with me. Of course it didn’t.
It came from someone typing with their thumbs into a phone.
Reality hits when you’re living in the real world and it’s just so peaceful, so quiet, so good.
More of that.
