Friday your Shopping day???

Often left with veg that are a little past their prime? 

This delicious and highly nutritious and satisfying soup is ideal.
Use any old veg that are hanging about even if they are a bit soft or yellowing broccoli 😉

I upped the nutritional composition by adding in 
100g tempeh I used bionaorganic popped in airryer for 5 mins to crisp a little for protein 
75g feta simplybetterds for protein 
And some udoschoiceirl oil a blend of organic plant omegas which are a game changer for hormonal health. 

Which was utterly delicious 😋 and one pot wonder for the soup. 

And will definitely keep me satisfied till dinner! So no snacking!! 

I’ll freeze the soup for next week.

We know that perimenopause and menopause can impact mental health, which is usually due to fluctuating or low hormone levels as the hormones oestradiol, progesterone and testosterone have important functions in your brain.

For some women, they can also experience something called reproductive depression. Reproductive depression is a hormonally based depression that can come and go over the course of your reproductive life, including the perimenopause.

You might have reproductive depression if you experienced premenstrual depression (PMS or PMDD) and if you’ve had children, you may have suffered with postnatal depression. When you become perimenopausal, symptoms of depression might be at their worst yet (even though they can still fluctuate) and they may persist without the right dose and type of hormone treatment. 

The underlying explanation for reproductive depression is that some women’s brains are much more sensitive to the hormonal fluctuations of the menstrual cycle, after pregnancy and during perimenopause. The female brain relies on mechanisms to adapt to the hormonal flux that happens every month and around pregnancy and perimenopause. When these adaptive mechanisms are not working as they should, it results in some women experiencing  to a hormonal depression, particularly when levels of oestradiol, progesterone and testosterone decline.

If you are struggling with your mental health, please do reach out to your healthcare professional for help - there are many routes available for support and treatment. Many women find that their mental health symptoms improve with the right dose and type of HRT, often with testosterone too.

If you’re familiar with my work, you know women are facing a major challenge— Alzheimer’s disease:

🧠 Being a woman is a major risk factor for Alzheimer’s.
🧠 Women make up nearly two-thirds of all Alzheimer’s patients, with postmenopausal women comprising the majority.
🧠 A 45-year-old woman has a 20% chance of developing Alzheimer’s in her lifetime—double the risk of a man the same age.
🧠 For decades, this was dismissed with “women live longer than men, and that’s it.”
 
Today, we know better.
 
We’ve established that Alzheimer’s isn’t a disease of old age— it’s a disease of midlife with symptoms that appear in old age. 

We also know that midlife endocrine (hormonal) aging is a risk factor for Alzheimer’s and menopause is a window of vulnerability, with implications for both early detection and prevention.
 
But there’s much we don’t know:
 
Menopause doesn’t cause Alzheimer’s- it increases risk. So who’s at greater risk? Does estrogen therapy reduce risk? Who’s more likely to benefit? What about women who can’t take hormones? How about those with hysterectomy, or breast cancer survivors?

With CARE, our mission is ambitious:
🌍 Halve the lifetime risk of Alzheimer’s for all women.
🌍 Reduce risk for an estimated 330M women globally.
🌍 Potentially prevent 54.5M cases of Alzheimer’s by 2050.
 
CARE focuses on identifying the hormonal aging pathways behind Alzheimer’s risk in women and developing prevention strategies that work *for women*. The program is also a commitment to addressing the historic dismissal of women in medicine—because we CARE.
 
We really owe women centuries of research.

When functioning properly, estrogen, a vital female hormone produced primarily in the ovaries, plays an essential role in regulating menstruation, enhancing mood, and maintaining bone health. Whilst the addition of this vital hormone should be an immediate benefit for most it can take a while to get it just right.
Hormones whether our own or those that we are taking need to be balanced correctly so that we can feel like ourselves. 
⚖️When the balance between estrogen and progesterone is tipped in favor of estrogen, it can lead to numerous health problems. Seems contradictory at this stage when our estrogen levels are declining. 
But so too are our progesterone levels, in fact this is actually the first hormone that we experience a huge decrease in production. 
It’s a minefield, and that’s where my expertise comes in.

Delicious Chilli filling and nutritious 
add chilli to your taste 👅 I like it HOT 🔥 

Serves 6 

400g lean mince steak
2 onions
6 cloves garlic
2 carrots
4 portobello mushrooms 
3 celery sticks
2 tins mixed beans 
3 tsp cumin
2 tsp ground corriander 
2tsp ground cinnamon 
2 tsp cocoa powder 
2 tsp chilli powder 
2tsp cayenne 
1tbsp smoked paprika 
10 dried chillies 
2tsp oregano 
2tbsp tomato puree
1beef stock pot
300ml water
1tbsp soy sauce. 

Using a food processor carrots, onions, celery, mushrooms, garlic whizz till finely chopped.
Saute veg in olive oil till soft. 
Add mince and brown, 
Add spices and tomatoe purée fry for couple minutes. 
Add stock and water. 
Cook on low heat for about an hour. 

Good sides- avocado smash, Greek yoghurt, picked red cabbage, grated cheese, rice, nacho’s . 

Enjoy 😘

Delicious Thai Fishcakes 

These little gems of deliciousness are easy to make but look impressive!
Have as a starter, a nibble with drinks or as a main with some brown rice and a stir fry. Traditional Thai Fishcakes do have a spongy texture! 

Full of flavour, these will have you going back for more 😋

Ingredients 
500g fish ( I used frozen)
2 tsp red curry paste 
1 egg
1 tbsp cornflour 
2tbsp fish sauce 
2 tbsp chopped corriander 
Handful green beans 
Zest of a lime 

Method 
Ensure the fish is dry, pat with kitchen towel to ensure excess moisture is removed especially if using frozen fish. 
All in the blender except the beans. 
Blend to a paste.
Add the chopped beans.
Make into patties I got 10 out of this.

Fry about 2 or 3 mins a side.
Enjoy, ideal with a chilli sauce 🌶️

Cleansing Green soup

This quick green soup not only tastes delicious but is packed with nutrients to support hormonal balance. Cruciferous veg like broccoli contains sulphorophane which is a powerhouse for hormones. Rich in fibre so great for gut health and parsley is super cleansing for your liver. 

Makes around 1 litre

1 head broccoli
1 onion
1tbsp olive oil
2 handful frozen petit poi’s
Handful parsley
1 veg stock cube 
600ml water

Method 
Sauté the onion for around 5 mins in the oil, you don’t want to brown it.
Add the chopped broccoli, stock cube and water. 
Simmer for 10 mins. 
Add the peas and parsley, cook for 3 mins.
Blend, check seasoning and enjoy. 

I added some toasted seeds for texture, and some Plant Omegas to add extra nutrients ❤️

Warming Cauliflower & Chickpea Curry

A delicious and quick dinner when you feel like you need a warming option. Great as the weather is getting colder! The cauliflower is full of fibre and hormone balancing nutrients. Chickpeas are the protein addition to balance your blood sugars and keep you full for the day. Spices are anti inflammatory and elevate this to a super tasty option. 

Ingredients 
1 cauliflower
2 onions
2 carrots 
2 garlic cloves
Piece of ginger 
Tin of chickpeas 
Tin of coconut milk full fat
1 veg stock cube 
500 mls water
2 tbsp garam masala
Chillis as your taste (I added 6 dried🌶️)
4 green cardamoms podded 
1tsp turmeric 
1tsp cinnamon 

Method
Bake to cauliflower and chickpeas in 1 tbsp oil and 1 tbsp garam masala. I used airer for 10 mins, 
Sautee chopped onions with chopped carrots for 10 mins on low you want a golden colour.
Add spices, cauliflower, chickpeas, coconut milk and stock. 
Cook gently for about 10 mins. 
Check seasoning and enjoy. 

Delicious as a main with rice or as a side. 
Can be frozen in portions.

This event marked the one-year anniversary of the WHR initiative, which aims to close the decades-long gap in women’s health research. The initiative was prompted and inspired by the tireless advocacy and dedication to women’s health by mariashriver 🤍
 
I delivered a speech centered on women’s brain health, the impact of Alzheimer’s disease, and the role of menopause.
 
We’ve known since the 1990s that being a woman is the second strongest risk factor for Alzheimer’s, after age. Today, nearly two-thirds of all Alzheimer’s patients are postmenopausal women. Despite some progress, vast unknowns remain. Here’s what we’ve learned:

👉🏻Women’s brains age differently than men’s, and menopause plays a role.
👉🏻”Sex hormones” like estrogen are brain hormones, too, providing neuroprotection against aging and disease.
👉🏻Menopause doesn’t cause Alzheimer’s-it’s a risk factor. While all women experience menopause, not all develop Alzheimer’s. It’s crucial to understand what factors keep some healthy while making others vulnerable.
👉🏻A longer reproductive lifespan, with extended estrogen exposure, may protect against dementia— while estrogen deprivation, especially after early or induced menopause, is linked with an increased risk.
👉🏻The connection with menopause hormone therapy needs more research for clearer insights.
 
Menopause remains one of the most under-diagnosed, under-researched, under-treated, and under-funded fields in medicine—just like women’s brain health overall.
 
I concluded my talk by affirming: We owe women centuries of research.
 
It felt significant to voice this in a room that has the power to effect real change.
