The motivation was “Siberian Tiger”. You guys I promise I was attending the sesac music awards, but katiekauss had a velvet chaise lounge, so I had a seat. 😂. Lemme cook: I’m calling this post “The Lady and Her Music” IYKYK. It’s taken me a couple of weeks to process one of the best weekends ever at bluenotejazzfestival. As, a guest, as a fan, and as an artist. On one hand, it feels like a vacation, mainly through the way robertglasper and his amazing team set the atmosphere. It’s a whole cookout, meets white party, tasteful and tasty. As a music fan, meeting, reconnecting, and enjoying with some of my favorite artists, tastemakers and people that shaped the culture I am a part of and love so much. Look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now. #tbt I joined the revolution in 2016 as the principal standby for the Schuyler Sisters. It was a blur and a life-changing experience, in so many ways. Celebrating a decade brought back a flood of memories of that time in my life professionally and personally. It was an important time in theater with the show doing a six-step, to windmills, into a headstand, turning Broadway upside down! A mighty group of rebels telling the story of our nation’s history at a time when the country’s future looked scary. We sang about freedom while registering people to vote, we share messages with our leader, while people outside tried to boycott our show for exercising our 1st amendment right. We gave a young generation and middle generation a voice and made it look sexy. And just like A.Ham, over the last 10 years, L. Man has built an economy for artists of color to build successful careers, purchase homes, get married, start families, LIVE THE AMERICAN DREAM while utilizing OUR CULTURE. Hamilton is more than clever words, cute corsets and catchy hooks. I’M SO PROUD of what this show has done for not only me but for the community. For the generation, and for revolution. After 10 years, the revolution is still relevant the new generation of rebels carry the torch that lights the fire our community has learned to love and look to. On Friday July 25th I debut my album Syndee Winters Sings Lena Horne:The Makings of A Lady in Concert at Jazz at lacma series in Los Angeles. It was my first album release in Los Angeles, and WE DID IT BIG! On top of my album reaching the top 100 on the Jazz radio charts, about 4,000 people attended the event at LACMA. I have so many people to thank who worked hard to make this show happen. marrisawilsonny not only dove headfirst into designing my bespoke merchandise Makings of A Lady Capsule, she joyfully worked with me to creative direct this concert; building each character with designs carefully selected from her AMAZING collection. laurentakespix Directed and edited the Visual Album for this project; working closely with us to create this fun variety show.
