Los hijos de la Schengada, 2024 Like a migration checkpoint at the entrance to the exhibition, this work, whose frequencies have no borders, confronts us with the violence of the reality of the migrant experience. The speakers are made of boards of paper made from copies of the artist’s administrative file, assembled with corn glue. They broadcast extracts from these official documents, and telephone menus from the various institutions involved in this process: the police headquarters, the consulate, the health insurance office. White man in Mexico, stigmatized Mexican in Europe, Suricata questions his own identity, and highlights the ambiguity of national identity narra-tives. He is a son of the chingada, a Mexican expression analysed by the writer Octavio Paz in El laberinto de la soledad (1950) as a reference to a mythical maternal figure, a form of wounded, raped Malinche. It alludes to an idea of violence, and underlines an identity paradox: Mexicans insult their own mother, in a way that affirms an identity that they contradict and degrade. Suricata highlights the language interactions at the heart of control mechanisms, and the complex issues of translation and communication at work in these exchanges between speakers with unequal linguistic resources, where misunderstandings shape lives. Male toxicity flows through almost all of night life of course also manifested as harassment. For me its one of the biggest obstacles for our path to self and comunal deconstruction. Getting to know people is amazing, flirting is beautiful and can be very fun. But lets be honest we have become obsessed as society with the way we look and we have made physical intercourse an existential goal. This constant obsession very often can turn any potentially free party into a violent oppressing one. In a male chauvinist society this means, specially, that women are constantly in very uncomfortable, dangerous and violent party environments. We will never reach Utopia in our dance-floors if violence is integrated and normalised. Is there space for political and social ideas inside clubs and festivals ? ❄️💊🤑💪🏼🫦🤪🇲🇽 Has the electronic music scene and rave values become the exact thing it sweared to fight against ? I grew up in a narco and toxic male night scene in Mexico. It’s crazy to think how much violence got accepted and integrated on the way we celebrate. Moving to Paris made me also feel the same, I wrote these songs to try to create a dialogue between us and to support the different organizations that try to change the scene via actions and consciousness. It’s been 8 years knowing ancient.future.now and it fills me with pride to be able to release something with my brothers. The remixes in this EP are amazingly fun and groovy. So proud of making the music and sound design for this documentary together with donalexalbert It seams surreal and makes me angry to see FIFA and Qatar investing 22bn$ for infrastructure while submitting to slavery/death thousands of workers and not doing more for female football. I remember feeling very emotional and angry while working on the score yet inspired about what this team and their families do day to day to fight for their passion and their community. This is the brave story of Ciudad Juárez’s female football team, Bravas. Together they fight for a place in this prominent macho sport. In this city, misogyny, cartels, the government and the US border provoked the systematic killing of hundreds of women. “Femicide” was minted because of what happened and still happens in this border city. Hands up to matusmalet for directing this beautiful piece and for fighting for this project to be made and to the people within the federation that actually want to change the panorama with action and consciousness!
