Big shoutout to presleyspantry, who is one of my guardian angels, and alerted me to this popup in a West Adams backyard. catalinalucas_ of mokalli_tlacolula is a culinary star, and one of the best traditional cooks in Oaxaca, representing the zapoteco community in Tlacolula. 

I sampled mole negro, mole verde, Amarillo, chichilo, sequeza, coloradito, and mole enyebado. I also had a simply delicious caldo de fandango, and ordered higaditos, and more sequeza to go. Catalina makes ancestral cuisine that so delicate, and thoughtful that it’s a reminder that indigenous cuisine is modern. Lunch mistaconespdx with Carlos, & Polo, who’ve created a delicious vegan Mexican concept that’s a love letter to LA, Brown & queer-owned.I enjoyed a tasty quesadilla; al pastor, beans, & asada tacos; maybe the best concha’s I’ve had including one made with a chamoy frosting, and definitely the best chimichanga I’ve had, made with love. I also sipped a margarita La Barbie, with pitaya fruit, & a great michelada.
