Why you haven’t been able to learn French: ❌No plan or structure You’re doing a bunch of random apps / podcasts / books / classes etc You can’t do random stuff and expect good results !! ✅There’s a progression, there’s a way to integrate French into your lifestyle that is enjoyable & sustainable (I show you how in my free guide, link in bio!) ❌No speaking practice You cannot learn to SPEAK French from playing on apps / reading books etc That doesn’t even make sense ✅ You have to practice using the language in real life situations, there’s no other way to get better And I’m sorry but anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you ❌Only using material for French learners You cannot get good at French by only using material for students ✅ At some point you have to take a leap and start using material for natives Growth is outside your comfort zone ❌Learning random vocab you’ll never use When learning a new word / expression, ask yourself “am I going to use this in real life??” ✅ Instead of learning random stuff, focus on what you will actually need when you speak French (like ordering in a resto, asking where the restrooms are, talking to your significant other or their family in French if they’re a native, etc) N’hésitez pas si vous avez des questions ☺️ PS - I’m a native English speaker who learned French! For how well known they are, I’ve personally never met someone who could say “I totally learned this language on ______ (insert language app)” But everyday I speak to someone who has a 1,361 days streak on some app yet THEY STILL CAN’T SPEAK FRENCH !! If you’ve tried language apps and didn’t get the result you want, this is why: (And if you did get the result you want, I’m just so happy for you, you won ☺️!) 1. No accountability You need accountability to learn French !! You need someone to keep you going when it gets hard Someone to talk to about the psychology of language learning, the fear, the embrasent, etc Someone who understands where you are, why you’re stuck, and how to get you unstuck 2. Not personalized Everyone is unique, everyone has different strengths & weaknesses “One size fits all” language apps are not effective! To really progress in French as quickly & easily as possible, you need a custom program, tailored to fit your specific needs & goals 3. No community Language was created for humans to connect You cannot learn to SPEAK French alone in your bedroom playing on some app You need to practice with other people to get good at French, there’s no other way 4. The BIGGEST reason 👇 Apps don’t work because you don’t even know what pace is going to be effective to hit your goals! Most French students will do the bare minimum = not enough to hit their goals If you could learn French on your own, you wouldn’t be here! Sometimes I don’t like how my accent sounds in French 😂 Even though most of the time it sounds great and people even ask me if I’m French, it really depends on the day! How I learned French: At 23: took 4 semesters of French, could HARDLY hold a conversation At 25: found a French conversation group on meetup.com, went every week for 2 years, I can now hold a conversation in French pretty well !! In 2013, I visited Paris for the first time as an adult, made a bunch of new friends! At 26: moving to Paris, going to study French at La Sorbonne At 28: still living in Paris, finished my bachelors degree in French & francophone studies, my French is getting so good! At 33: finished my masters in teaching French as a foreign language at Middlebury College I’m now 36, it took me 15+ years to get my French where it is today, but I love speaking French !!
